So what did I miss?

Posted by verndogs on Jan-16-2008 04:43:

Shit, didn't know about the Nevada debate

Posted by mezzir on Jan-16-2008 04:47:

man
jon stewart's guest, forget his name but he's a former un ambassador, he made a good point tonight on the daily show: we need a new fucking debate system. you know, something that's not asking a candidate a question, then giving them 30 seconds to explain something about themselves that makes them sound good. thats not a debate...thats taking turns talking, and rarely there is any actual 'debate'

It was a new style last night - allowed more interaction between the candidates to highlight differences in specific plans, etc.

By far the best debate I have ever watched, and I have to say, I am convinced that all three of the Democratic candidates would make fantastic Presidents. I was skeptical about Hillary, but she really won me over last night. Now let's see if the Republican field can respond.

If you are at all interested in the election, and you only watch one debate from each party this year, make that the Democratic debate you watch. MSNBC is showing a replay at some point I believe.

You don't buy everything. You filter by observing the campaign, reading about legislative track records, and listening to debates in order to make an informed decision.

I, for one, can't believe that there are still people that claim all of the candidates running for President are one and the same. It really shows that you don't pay any attention to the world that you can't see the difference between any of these candidates (or Bill Clinton for that matter) and the current Administration in the White House.

Or do you believe that Harper and Chretien were members of different parties for no particular reason?

Location: Markham, ON, Canada

It never ceases to amaze me how folks from other countries who clearly don't have a clue about anything that's going on with the election feel comfortable making some random cliche statement about politicians and then proceed to say that anyone seriously considering which candidate they'd vote for is "buying into bullshit and rhetoric."

What would you like us to do, just not partake in our own election process?

I'm sure every other country that isn't America has politicians who are straight shooters and don't use that nasty, nasty "rhetoric" everyone seems to be so afraid of!

For those who missed it, here are some of TPM's "highlights" - I would have included some other moments, but it gives you the gist.

The first half hour was on the nature of the Obama/Clinton campaign rhetoric coming out in the last few weeks.

Posted by denys envy on Jan-16-2008 15:13:

from the highlights that I did see:

Hillary "Blah Blah Blah..."

Obama "...uhh ...what she said..."

John "I'm white, LOL!"

There definitely was a moment like that. But to be fair, I thought Edwards looked best last night.

Posted by Renzo on Jan-18-2008 03:54:

I'm voting for Ross Perot.

Posted by RJT on Jan-22-2008 14:08:

Watching Hilary and Obama last night makes me cringe so fucking hard.

It's not unlike watching two little kids on the playground argue about which cereal their dad said was the best - stubborn twattery that accomplishes nothing for either party.

There's more than one way to use the word "party" (i.e. to refer to separate individuals)

among other things

you find yourself thinking about stupid things tho, gets a bit distracting from the issue at hand (pun intended).

like "I wonder if she was on coke too during this scene... "

Since the electoral college pretty much makes my vote useless, I should write in Dubya just to piss everyone off

Posted by verndogs on Jan-26-2008 22:24:

Bumping this since the South Carolin democratic primary is on today

Posted by Renzo on Jan-27-2008 03:13:

Well, Obama took South Carolina easily.

By the way, RJT...I thought the funniest part in the debate was when, amid all the bickering between Hillary and Obama, John Edwards said: "Hey, there's a third person in this debate."

Poor guy. He's like the fat girl running for prom queen: Everyone knows she isn't gonna win, but they're still pulling for her.
