anticipation...the night...the sick beats..."sex lies and audiotape" a la Stereo and then the reviews lol

hope everyone has a good one, c ya there

.

after maus' set i was forced to leave due to unforseen trance circumstances.

thats all i have to say

p.s. MAUS from mtl rocked it proper as always

Posted by Passskal on May-17-2008 12:44:

wish I could give a proper review. I lasted till 5h30am, Maus' opening set was great in terms of track selection! Some heavy tech house beats coming from the booth!!!
Joel looked a bit nervous before going in, Maus was ripping it proper though! I left before hearing any of deadmau5 big commercial prog hits.
Extremely packed at stereo, very young crowd, geek squad came out strong for this event

t

trance in the pants

Posted by Oneeleven on May-17-2008 15:33:

Going in I had expectations of boring elecro because of all the shit talk on this board lately. Wrong. Sick sick SICK set. I danced for the entire thing without stopping.

Tight. freaking GREAT track selection.

The crowd was a bit bizzare to say the least tonight. Met some really uber awesome people anyways.

Francis Lalonde (did i get the name correct?) who closed StereoBar was bloody fantastic. I hope to hear him more.

Maus was as fabulous as always tonight too.

Fun night over all!

Posted by licks on May-17-2008 20:45:

So it was trance! What the hell was that! lol Came in with no expectations but would have liked to hear something like the set that was uploaded in this thread earlier. Got nothing of it instead- after what maus played I seemed to be hearing slow cheezy something, and then there was trance! HA HA. Way to funny and i guess dissapointing (but thats a bit harsh in my head) it is waht it is and I would have been taken by suprize no matter what joel played. Thankfully tho, i did get my small fix of some sick dirty tracks mixed interestingly (intensely) from Joel which were incredible (would have liked more of that) Some of his sound definately sounded killer on Stereo, but for the most part i think he could have taken the beast for a much heavier ride. Too bad nevertheless his first time playing the beast and feelin stereo.

Reflecting on the night in all, Maus is so f'in good I wanna hear her play tonight at Stereo and would love if she had a night with Jeff Fontaine who played an insane insane set for the close (7-11am)intense track after intense track perfect on stero. What deadmau5 did in my opinion, was not play a dj set but do a performance of what he does best- which is fine and good and is what it is, but could not have clashed worse with the two other insanely talanted local dj's set's. I love Montreal & of course ((()))

Crowd was f'in bannanas so many people, a bit overwhelming, much more comfortable once it cleared out a bit. There was a large group of agressive people there could probably guess their nationaity but thats not for the boards (i guess. Highly disrespectfull and not in line with any vibe at all. In the vibe sense of things, i cant really figure out what was going on-so many people from all over town and different age groups, was not a vibe at all maybe. So many chicks tho!! I really hope all first timers were blown away by their stereo experience. Which seemed to eb the case. Im thinking Rene Amez @ sereo would be just as a sick a night.

Anyways that was just a quick free write of my perception or opinion or whtvr of the night-morning.

Went to deadmau5 with low expectations, setting the bar really low just in case he's really as bad as ppl on the thread were saying. And let me tell you what, he beat my expectations, he played worse than i could have possibly imagined. Not to insult anybody's music tastes, this set, for me, was the worst I've ever heard in stereo by miiiiiiles. Same fkn bassline for 2h30. Transitions sucked. Track selection didnt do it for me, plays minimal and out of NOWHERE pops tiesto- clockwork orange, euhhh WTF?! Disapointed BIG time. Half of my friends left at like 6 because they couldnt handle it anymore, and the rest was sitting down talking waiting for Jeff Fontaine. Didnt feel the music AT all. Just the same freakin bassline+ some occasional noise. He's a cool guy and all, good producer, but for gods sake, keep him away from turn tables!!!
The place was jammed, so many ppl, very young crowd, not the usual stereo crowd at all. Overall, horrible night for me.
So ya thats my opinion on that night, dont mean to offend anybody. SHould have saved up for danny howells instead, he's gonna kill it tommorow im sure, too tired to go to both though.
Anyhow, is it only me, or somebody else thinks the same??

I'm sure anyone with any taste thinks the same

Like I said, I saw it all at Coachella and def didn't need a rd. 2-

although there are shittier... the ones copying him!

Posted by Alexx G on May-18-2008 00:13:

lol THANK YOU! at least im not the only one thinking he's bad. Before he played, i thought that Erika was exagerating a little too much and taht he couldnt possibly be THAT bad, but hey, she was right about everything!! anyways, ill just try to forget this night as fast as possible, because of deadmau5 i dont even feel like going to stereo anymore, he ruined it for me. Ill try to get over this quickly, just imagine i never went, and try to be all positive for farina, tyas & masiello in june (21st, 27th and 30th of june).

Posted by Allied Nations on May-18-2008 00:20:

although I do find it funny you are a tyas fan and a deadmau5 hater...

Posted by Alexx G on May-18-2008 00:27:

lol well tyas is pretty good, saw him last time but had to leave early so didnt see his entire set, wanna see him again. I like any EDM, whether its house, trance, progg or minimal, if its good its good, cant argue with it. Tyas is pretty repetitive, but ionno i liked the vibe and all, came with a bunch of friends was cool, not the best trance but a pretty good night, but not even close to deadmau5. But tyas its just cuz a lot of my friends are going, im coming with them, same was for deadmau5, came with a huge gang. DIfference is taht after tyas everybody had smiles on their faces and were satisfied, and after deadmau5 they wanted to commit suicide and cuz their wrists. Anyhow. Did u see Mark Farina before? wanna see him on the 21st of june, any comments on that 1?

Posted by DiskHO on May-18-2008 00:48:

fmark

mark farina nights are the best nights at stereo by far hands down. nothing comes close and i promise you that farina will make you forget all about last night. i totalled my car in massachusetts by hitting a cow last october....and the first thing i thought when i was looking at the wreckage was how i could still make it to farina at stereo. good thing i was able to get a ride.

i still cant get this fucking trance out of my pants and its been like 14 hours. can anybody recommend a good stain remover?

ps. first time ever that people in the smoking area at stereo were debating who is the best trance dj. i had no idea where i was

ONE FINAL POINT THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!!!!!!i was sitting with maus after her set and this random girl came up to us and asked if we wanted to see something crazy. we said no, but she showed us anyway. she lifted her pants leg and had a deadmau5 tattoo on her leg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Allied Nations on May-18-2008 00:48:

he will blow your mind

as for me im just pumped for DH on sunday

Posted by Alexx G on May-18-2008 01:13:

haha ommfg the girl with the deadmau5 tattoo must be insaneee. that was before he started playing though, or shortly after, what happened during the set MUst have changed her mind. I guess somebody's getting laser tattoo removal this week :O!

Posted by Alexx G on May-18-2008 01:16:

and thanks guys for Farina, u reassure me. Sounds like its gonna be one heck of a night. But i heard taht the crowd isnt really...well...let say there are no girls whatsoever. wtv gonna bring a big group of friends and have a blast with some REAL music.

You are so right dude. Farina is totally awesome when he comes to Montreal. I can get enough of his old beat like mushroom jazz or San Francisco calling. OMG.

Farina>Howells.???.???.debates

Posted by DiskHO on May-18-2008 01:40:

h

farina is better for dancing all night non stop jacking. howells is better for the journies he can actually take you on and change up sounds over crazy amounts of time.

you really cant go wrong with either they are the gems of the stereo stable

Posted by John_H2O on May-18-2008 01:45:

true that

would like to listen to Farina for an outside event, like at piknic, can be an awesome afternoon, summer music, so happy!

I never really understood that. ..No girls whatsoever? Why does that matter at all?. I speak on my behalf but I go out strictly to hear some good music, I personally don't really care if there's some perky boobs and round ass next to me while I'm there..no matter how much I love women.
I go to Stereo for one reason...To have a truly beautiful musical experience..and that's really it. It's already a delectable cake as is..boobs and ass are just the icing on top, if provided. If not...mine do a pretty good job at bouncing just as beautifully.

Posted by DiskHO on May-18-2008 02:14:

hwhoever said that has no idea what they are talking about there

whoever said that doesnt know anything, there are more girls at farina nights than any other parties at stereo, not that it matters if you wanna hear some badass house music

Posted by Alexx G on May-18-2008 02:14:

lol i agree with you 100%, but u must admit that its pretty sketchy for a guy to go to a place filled with sweaty topless men with leather straps, so i preper having at least some girls in there. Me too i go there strictly for the music, but im really not at ease when the place is filled with that kinda crowd with no girls.

Posted by DiskHO on May-18-2008 02:21:

f

farina will be packed with girls. its the closest thing to a sona vibe that you can get
