East:

1. Philadelphia Flyers*
2. Montreal Canadiens*
3. Washington Capitals*
4. Pittsburgh Penguins

13. Florida Panthers
15. Toronto Maple Leafs

Tampa and Washington will fight it out to the end I think.. however, Washington is an Ovechkin injury short of imploding, as is Tampa with Lecavalier's rehabbing shoulder. I don't see a lot of depth on these teams but they will be exciting to watch.

West
1. Detroit Red Wings*
2. Dallas Stars*
3. Calgary Flames*
4. San Jose Sharks
5. Anaheim Ducks
6. Chicago Blackhawks
7. Minnesota Wild
8. Colorado Avalanche

9. Nashville Predators
10. Edmonton Oilers
11. St. Louis Blues
12. Vancouver Canucks
13. Columbus Blue Jackets
14. Los Angeles Kings
15. Phoenix Coyotes

ANF: I took a closer look at St Louis' roster but this team will improve..just not enough to make the playoffs. They will struggle to score some nights in the tight-checking West, as will many teams there, including my Canucks.

I hope Kovalev has a good season.. or someone's gonna photochop a 'K' on that vintage jersey

Kanata Burning.. with Gene Hackman in a Habs jersey, smirk.

That's gonna seem like a home game for Montreal.. particularly if they keep up the momentum from last season and the Sens start the season poorly. Ottawa's kinda weird in that it's fan base is divided into Montreal, Toronto and Sens fans, with Toronto and Montreal having a significant ratio.

Posted by elFreak on Sep-28-2008 23:03:

it is ridiculous how easy it is to get great seats for habs games in ottawa...it is like buffalo for leafs fans.

Posted by Spin Laden on Sep-29-2008 00:54:

how did you manage to do it, btw? I know some ppl tried to do the opposite but they couldn't use an Ottawa address or 613 area code (or whatever the reason was).

i pick them up at will call on the day of the game. I used my montreal address and phone number.

that simple.

all you need is a credit card, i do not understand why you had trouble.

you can't get habs tickets this easy...ottawa is so sucky that you can get anything at anytime

I did the same thing you did for Jays tix recently so I guess that's the normal process for ticket pickup. Heheh, I still remember your Steve Porter review from two years back re Ottawa. But yeah, it wasn't me but a co-worker. She tried to get Habs tix I think thru admission or Sports Experts but there were some territorial issues or something.

Posted by elFreak on Sep-29-2008 14:19:

i was in ottawa this weekend actually to see a cirque du soleil show.

cirque show was awesome (happy because the last one i saw was super shitty.)

ottawa omg so boring

Habs new goal song for this season:

Upon first listen, I thought it was complete crap. Then I listened to it again...and have been listening to it all day since

Posted by Bertuzz on Sep-29-2008 23:16:

so now that you've listened to the Simple Plan version....listen to this one: (sound familiar????)

HABS = GANGSTA RAP??

Posted by Passskal on Sep-30-2008 02:33:

haha the synth kinda sounds like the old goal song that everybody wanted back!

its about time, with all those black players coming in the team, they're trying to make them feel comfortable, the red jersey of the habs is going to take a whole different meaning.

jokes aside, the song is pure crap,ur first impression was right.I imagine they'll sample the beginning of the song,so it wont be that bad.

This is what a colleague had to say about trying to buy Habs home game tickets from Ottawa:

"You have to be in montreal to buy them (use a montreal based computer). It's really shitty that they do that but that's how it works. If you try to order them online here in Ottawa it won't work - it won't give you access. And if you try to buy them by phone - well they're all sold out by the time they take your call.

If you buy tickets for an Ottawa vs. Montreal game in Ottawa you won't have any issues here."

ouch..can you say two-tier league or mass defections to Russia?

Posted by elFreak on Sep-30-2008 17:17:

they can all fold...the teams that matter will still be there.

Posted by Spin Laden on Sep-30-2008 17:41:

relocate then contract. Bring back Les Nordiques

Posted by malek on Sep-30-2008 17:44:

This can be really ugly, the US already ignores the NHL, now this will only be worse.

only one journalist covering the flyers?!?!? omg, philly isn't colombus.

two tier league with a European Division. Truth be told, ratings are 'generally' down in most sports in a continued fragmented tv audience, though some compelling finals have bucked the trend (NBA final, Superbowl, Stanley Cup).

Habs better win it now.. there's gonna be another lockout in a few years at this rate.

Posted by elFreak on Sep-30-2008 18:08:

get rid of teams with no interest level...less teams = better teams. The markets in the US that support the game are enough. All this expansion has hurt the game imo.

I think he'll start in Hamilton....but i wouldn't be surprised if Bob Gainey pulls a major trade to get rid of guys like Lapierre, Dandenault, Begin and even latendresse, in order to get a quality 4th D and keep guys like Chipchura and Pacioretty on the roster...

O'Byrne looked like shit tonight....and so did Brisebois.
