mashup has been huge in the toronto club scene for quite some time now but most people here have been living under a rock so they would have no idea.

I was pushed around purposely by two idiots twice last weekend on my way to the Drink. Needless to say I never bothered with it after that.

Good for business Yes, but yeah fuck mash-up...

So for this mashup business where do the djs get their tunes? It doesn't seem like something you could just buy?

Are they doing it on the fly with a pioneer svm1000 and acouple dvdjs?

the guys in the drink use serato and a normal mixer. not sure which mixer is in there right now but possibly the djm800. its just house instrumentals with hip hop vocals... or rock vocals on some other insturmental. dont need special music for it.

I think the only think you need is serato or something similar & a harddrive full of music. You dont need a fancy mixer or any special tracks. Basically mashup djs mix anything & everything. Theyll go from hip-hop to country to house to some old 60s track in 5min. Serato helps them go from track to track really fast.

Personally Im not a big fan mashup or that super fast mixing style regardless of what type of music the dj plays. I like hearing more then 2min of a song & some type of flow.

haha true..

so i guess its more like a dmc style, rather than the preprogamed mashups that people are linking on the youtube videos
