Can you honestly say there are not those who are going to vote because of their racial hate for either the white man or the black man?

Even in our own election...I know many people who didn't know anything about the platforms of each party and only based their decision on who sounded like they were lying less.

Of course some people voted based on race - for both parties.
I think the net effect is pretty close to zero, and if you think blacks are more likely to vote black and not vote on issues, then that's a huge insult to the african american community. There is nothing that indicates that blacks vote on race any more than whites do.

If you're trying to say that blacks identified with Obama because he was black and that causes him to be more in tune with the black community and keep their interests in mind as a leader then that's different, and that's not voting on race. Everyone votes for a candidate that has their particular group's best interests in mind - low income or single parents, minorities, etc.

Obama is promising a common sense approach to leading the US and the World. That means not acting before thinking, and not deciding before discussing. As long as he keeps those two promises then he will succeed.

He is a brilliant man. He is quite possibly thee most mentally and emotionally qualified person to be president. These are forward looking times. This is a new generation of leadership that has entered the world stage.

I'll even go as far as to say that George Bush was meant to be such a horrible president and John "BORING" Kerry was meant to lose four years ago just so that Barack Obama could be president right now at this moment.

People are expecting big and fast changes....and when those don't happen people will speak out...not just americans but people across the world.

He made it clear in his speech it wouldn't be a quick and easy road to fix what has been scrambled in the last 8 years?

Posted by Skipper on Nov-05-2008 17:53:

I disagree that people will be disappointed.
He has been very clear from the beginning what the challenges are. all he promised was to try to change, and to be the voice of the people. He promised to try and repair international relations. I think that's all the american people want at this point - is someone TRYING to change things and make their lives better, because right now, no one is.

i really don't think he's at much risk for being assassinated, and if he was, it wouldn't be because he was black. active white supremacists (ie ones on stormfront.org) aren't stupid, they know that killing him would make him a martyr and wouldn't solve anything for them. they aren't mccain supporters either as both parties are just as close with israel, support multiculturalism etc...

obama is not yet offering any huge changes like the pending ones that may have warranted JFK's assassination ... and sure he's black but hasn't single handedly pushed for peoples' rights like lincoln or MLK. i guess it is possible that clueless skinheads on meth (like in the "plot" that was discovered at the dem convention) could somehow get past the secret service and kill him on a personal racial vendetta.. but i think that would be unprecedented and very unlikely. if someone has the resources and connections to get away with a presidential assassination (they need more than a willing dude with a gun imo), it would be for a more relevant goal than trying to keep the president white.

neither one of us knows why someone votes for someone. All I was suggesting in the first place was that Obama received a larger percentage of the votes from all minority groups...and almost all the votes from black people which is partially why he was elected....he appeals to them....for whatever reasoning they have.

If there is anything I've learned from being in the business world for the last 13 years is just because you state something and make it perfectly clear doesn't mean it changes the expectations of the people. Peoples expectations are high....and if he doesn't meet their expectations...no matter how unrealistic they are...people will be pissed....and its those that get pissed that are going to make the most noise. Remember....its not just US citizens who's expectations are high...its the citizens of planet earth who have these high expectations.....and its going to be impossible to satisfy all of these expectations.

Yeah, they showed her when she first came to the park as well.

It was good to see that she joined the crowd! They also showed Jesse Jackson too!

I think there were a few other celebrities, but don't remember.

Which is exactly why I disagreed when you said this:

There is definately a percentage of the voting population who know nothing about the political stances of each party and are making their judgements on stupid things like skin colour.

No, I'm just not willing to jump to conclusions about the ignorance of the african american population like he is.

Oh his comment was in reference to black voters? Well...whatever. It could be applied to any kind of voter. Bottom line though, in my opinion, is that there definitely were people voting even though they were completely ignorant on the candidates platforms. Not EVERYONE, of course. But there were definitely some people.

Unrelated, but I wonder what Jon Stewart will do now. His main source of comedy is gone now.

Of course there are people...on both sides.
I think the statement that blacks are more likely to vote uninformed is borderline racist, particularly when there's absolutely no fact behind it.

That was not directed at just african americans....but all voters....and I don't think its ignorant to believe that a portion of the voting population doesn't know shit about each party's platform and do in fact vote based on stupid things like skin colour.
