Flavio is livid, but his cars will also have the double diffuser this weekend which suggests that they were designing one in parallel while waiting to see how the challenges played out. McLaren also has an adapted double diffuser in use this weekend.

Ferrari took their KERS off and the cars are slower. Not looking like a good year for the prancing horse.

Nope, that $40mil/season for Kimi is going right down the drain.

LOL I wish Flavio would just shut his hole and focus on racing. The guy is such a bitter and arrgoant twat.

Briatore wants money blocked from Brawn

By Jonathan Noble and Michele Lostia Saturday, April 18th 2009, 03:25 GMT

Furious Renault boss Flavio Briatore plans to propose to fellow Formula 1 teams that Brawn GP is blocked from being given any television rights money for the 2009 season.

As the successor of the Honda Racing team, Brawn GP has a theoretical claim to the estimated 30 million Euros of money that would have been due to the Japanese manufacturer for competing this season - a move that was supported by the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA).

However, on the back of the diffuser controversy and the extra costs teams are now facing in developing the concept, Briatore instead wants the money to be shared equally among Brawn GP's rivals.

Speaking to Italian media in the Shanghai paddock, Briatore said he would make an official proposal to FOTA to prevent Brawn GP getting hold of the payments.

"Despite some being against it, [Luca di] Montezemolo kept the FOTA united in supporting Brawn GP, and so did McLaren, in supplying engines," said Briatore.

"But since [Ross] Brawn was our technical delegate, and he forces me to spend money I don't have in my budget, and since Honda's money have luckily not been shared yet, we'll have a meeting.

"My proposal will be as follows. Brawn is richer than anyone else, because he's had his team paid for in full by Honda, plus he's had 130 millions given to him [by Honda]: he's certainly richer than I am.

"I don't want to be a Robin Hood, but when there's a situation where everyone is transparent then it's fine.

"At this moment my position is, since I need to find the money in the budget somewhere and the season can't end up with [everyone] being one second behind the Brawn cars, then the money share will have to be reviewed in full. I think it's around 30 million Euros."

Brawn GP has no guarantee of getting the Honda money because it was made a totally new team by the FIA. Had it been a simple renaming of the outfit, then rival teams would have had no call for the payments.

Briatore added that he would also push for Brawn GP to not receive any entitlement to transport costs - which are only guaranteed for established teams.

"Let's go with what the FIA said," he explained. "Since the FIA said it's a new team, then for once we agree with the federation. This is a new team, it's true: Honda officially said it left F1, and this isn't called Brawn Honda, it's Brawn alone. At this point I think the federation is right.

"Bernie refused that point because Bernie wants to send the money to the teams and the teams would transfer it. Brawn was very good in the appeal, so the federation said he's right.

"As FOTA commercial chairman I'll propose that we follow the FIA's indications that it's a new team and for three years it has no rights with regards to transportation, nothing."

When asked about the previous stance of FOTA members ensuring Brawn GP got all the money it was entitled to, Briatore said: "That was at Christmas, though. Now that Christmas has gone, we'll talk about it again next Christmas.

"Since it's a new team, it has to follow all the regulations we followed when we entered with new teams. I will propose that to FOTA, then we'll see."

It's an interesting grid for tomorrow's race! The new double diffuser fitted to Alonso's car seemed to help. I wonder if the two Red Bull cars are just way lighter? It will be interesting to see the weights once they are posted.

So has anyone watched the race yet? I thought it was great but don't want to spoil it for anyone

Posted by stren on Apr-19-2009 13:07:

it was alright. All the overtakes seemed sooo slow, lol

Posted by pmoisse on Apr-19-2009 13:33:

^ yeah, but there were some good duels anyways. The spray was crazy and two cars going into a heavy braking zone at the same time was always dodgy.

Lots of spinny action too

Posted by nchs09 on Apr-19-2009 19:43:

It was an ok race..... great resultfor the redbull team.

next week should be a rain free race

That's what the MotoGP guys thought last weekend when they got hit with crazy rain on race Sunday. They had to delay the race until Monday night.

Should be a good race regardless of weather (and yeah, I wouldn't bet on it being wet either lol)

Posted by Orko on Apr-20-2009 20:15:

Great race for Vettel. Hopefully flabio will stfu with this result.

1) RB have a single element diffuser.
2) Brawn went to the FOTA last year to say, do you want to change this loophole, and Renault said no.

Pretty simple!

Ferrari is fucked. Kimi was slow as molassis compared to Lewis, but at least he didnt throw it off the track as many times! I think the new (last couple of years) Ferrari is just slow in the rain in general. Kimi AND massa cannot be that bad, can they?

Posted by pmoisse on Apr-21-2009 18:15:

^ Exactly!

Flavio can suck it. They already had an alternate diffuser ready to go and low and behold Alonso did relatively well this weekend once it was installed!

And yeah, Ferrari is right fucked.

Both Red Bulls were flying!

Posted by Orko on Apr-24-2009 14:41:

I'm having a hard time deciding between Red Bull and Brawn this weekend for fantasy f1. RB are on the way up, but this is a dry track, and one that I think would favour the twin diffuser so...Brawn? A lot of people attributed RB's 1-2 last weekend to the rain.

Posted by pmoisse on Apr-24-2009 17:31:

^ that's a tough call.

RB was worlds ahead of everyone (double diffuser or not) last week. Not sure why the diffuser gang couldn't keep closer to the pace given the downforce advantage.

I'm guessing that RB might have dialed in more wing in a wet-race gamble that worked brilliantly. They were light on fuel at the start by a big margin too.

My gamble pick is either Toyota this weekend. They were fast in Aus and in China quali. Glock has shown greta pace, and Trulli has been fast (for Trulli lol) but he's consistent enough that he could steal the win.

Posted by pmoisse on Apr-26-2009 08:07:

Should be a good race today.

Fuel loads at the front should make for some interesting action.

Posted by JorisC on Apr-26-2009 11:32:

I'm betting on Vettel this weekend, he's always good when he is well placed.

Posted by pmoisse on Apr-26-2009 11:41:

^ He's been fast all weekend, and fueled longer than the Toyotas. He could do it again for sure, which would be good to see.

I'd like to see one of the Toyota's finally win, but Trulli often self-destructs when he's in a position to win like this lol

Posted by Philby on Apr-28-2009 09:24:

well vettel 2nd and truli 3rd, your predictions were not far off! too bad about webbber, might have done alright if he had a better qualifying! i'm enjoying this season a lot so far! it would be interesting to see if the bubble bursts at brawn and some of the big names make a move with the upcoming car upgrades.

Posted by Philby on Apr-28-2009 09:28:

oh yeah, i think this was a great race for brawn seeing as they still got the win in a full race, with no safety cars or rain!

This season is complete bullshit

Posted by Orko on Apr-29-2009 21:27:

^^ how do you figure?

BTW - Mclaren got off with a suspended 3 race ban. Thank god. Anything more and they might have had to quit the sport.

Ok, if all goes right, i'll be attending my first GP ever this season: the Belgian GP end of August. Most likely tickets for the entire weekend.

And next year probably the Monaco GP.
