Originally posted by Jayx1 again, its not the nickle so much as the point. Also this will lead to even more stupid BS as what has happened with other bans and laws that start out "insignificant" and then snowball out of control.

Originally posted by Jayx1 Of course not, which is why we will pay pay pay and they know it!

Originally posted by Skipper What's comical is that your initial post had absolutely no reference to the government. The point was that you have to pay 5 cents for a bag.

Originally posted by jennypie Uh, no. Only idiots like YOU will pay....and then whine about it. That's what makes this all so hilarious.
I don't visit any of those places. I always pack my own lunch/eat my own food, and I use resealable containers. So yeah, I guess it IS interesting.

Originally posted by Jayx1 I guess these bans and silly laws are so common place now its almost assumed when one talks about certain topics. A sad commentary to be honest

Originally posted by FunkyCrew dude honestly, wake up and start thinking clearly 1 - people are still using plastic bags, but now they are just forced to pay for them (not everyone carries the bulky re-usable bags with them every time they shop) 2 - now every store is "coveniently" offering their own brand of re-usable bags (1 and 2 are just plain revenue makers for the stores) 3 - what mythical "potential environmental benefits" exactly are we talking about? real environmental benefits would be to offer recyclable paper groccery bags to customers (i.e. like LCBO always did), instead of charging 5 cents for plastic bags - instead, everyone is suddenly so freaking GREEN cos they are charging us for the use of something that we technically pay for anyway, when we buy their products

Originally posted by Skipper oh okay, so we should just assume every post of yours is related to the government. Got it.

Originally posted by Jayx1 Well its not too often i make issue with free markets and liberty. When government is not involved i have the power to make my own decisions about the type of business i wish to frequent... right?

Originally posted by Skipper You still do. You have a choice not pay for a fucking bag. What is so hard to understand about that? If you want to avoid paying for the embedded cost of the bag, then go to a farmers market. Or admit that it's NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL

Originally posted by Jayx1 You must not live in an apartment or condo. I dont use a regular garbage bin as i dont produce much waste as it is. Also i have the ability to throw garbage out in the bin anytime i want. I make it a habit to not let garbage fester for more than a couple of days. So my store bags are usually full when i toss them. Ahhhh but one size fits all laws dont accommodate for individual lifestyles. Its their way or the highway at city hall!

Originally posted by malek No I rolled my eyes because these places recognize the value of providing a convienience in the form of these plastic bags. Notice me quoting the word free. Some places over here don't even sell you bags anymore, not plastic, not paper, not anything, you have to curb your needs of mindless shopping unless you carry those big bags all the time. Less mindless shopping is bad for buisness, you must be the first one to recognize that, right?

I sleep soundly at night knowing that for the most part, i am sound in my principles and have a pretty clear perspective when it comes to certain things. I am also quite happy that i have a good solid opinion and position on life and that i can act accordingly. In other words, its just a message board. I come here for the entertainment value mostly |
The Loblaws Superstore in Milton doesn't even have plastic bags but they have a shit load of reusable bags and plastic bins that they would be glad to sell you for a small profit. They go on and on about how they are environmentally friendly yet they have plastic bags all over the place for you to put your fresh veggies and fruit in
The one thing I like is the parking spots reserved for the environmentally friendly vehicles.....I always park there or the expecting mother spots.
