it was my grandfathers watch though, so like i said the sentimental value will help me get over the gold thing. Plus it is cool to be able to walk around with a watch on that you know no one else will have.

moral is a pimp

really like that pocket watch.

Yeah what I like about it is the design has very definite 50s/60s elements to it.. so it has the same kind of appeal that antiques have for some people.. like you're wearing a real piece of history on your wrist. It's a cool watch. I think one of the reasons I'd dish out a lot of cash for a good watch is that the ******s last forever if they're taken care of so u can pass it down for quite a few generations.

i managed to find extra parts for it if anything ever happens to it again. The thing is there might not be anyone to fix it by then, because they have not made watches with these parts like these since 1977. The guy doing the repair is over 70.

many places i brought it to would not touch it because they did not know how.

some watches really do look like pieces of shit, for example, this one made by jacob & co which costs at least 20 grand.

but I mean, some of the watch brands like Patek, Audemars Piguet and A. Lange & Sohne are just collectors items really. Few people would really wear blingy watches and I mean, why would you pay 25k for a simple watch with no other complications. So it has to be made from some sort of rose gold for people to deem that those 25k 'subtle' watches are worth it, along with the watch company.

Yeah I know there are some classy watches around.. It just bothers me a bit that there's a market for super expensive and super tacky shit... Can't hep but feel I deserve that money more than the dumbasses that buy these things

i know it isn't as modern as the other ones posted, but as a collection piece with sentimental value i look forward to sporting it

And it doesn't look gaudy, unlike most of the stuff posted in this thread.

Someone could spend a lot of time and money picking an immaculately tailored suit, and shirt and trying to be as subtly classy as possible and completely destroy the entire effect by strapping one of these monstrosities to their wrist.. The only people these things really "suit" are gangsta rappers.

This. Often these watches scream: 'hey, I'm classy, I promise you! I have lots of money, let me show you, let me show you how much I deserve to be wearing this and how much it cost!' I don't wear watches anyway. For time, I'm a perpetual phone-checker. I have never liked jewellery anyway.

p.s the 17sss has the same taste for watches as he does for cars. Lol.

what the? lol... Did you see the photos of the 3 watches I own? 2 are very minimal and classy, and the 3rd is slightly flashy. None are big and bulky.

Same mentality as new migrants from uneducated, cut-off parts of the world or people from very low socio-economic backgrounds.. "how do I show people I'm rich and classy? ... I know cover myself in shiny shit!"

Posted by The17sss on Jul-31-2009 02:44:

that photo is unreal!
