What do you mean? There may not be more than a couple hundred a year, but last I checked, I'm pretty sure Afghanistan is getting some tourists (they just recently inaugurated their first national park). Anyway that was not meant to be a comparison, and I hope to God you did not take it as one. It's simply a point that you will find tourists in all 4 corners of the globe. The issue is not that we don't have tourists, it's that I believe we can get so many more.

And let me tell you one thing - I am the first person to admit he is wrong when I make a mistake. I plan to give a certain friend of mine some serious shit next time I see him, as he clearly made me look like an idiot here. I can see that the local gov't does offer tourism information in other languages. IDK how recently they started or to what extent translations are available, but hey, I'm not gonna try to tell you otherwise when you place the evidence in front of me.

Anyway stop being so negative. I don't have any problems with you or with Quebec. All I'm saying is that I understand why some people might. And anyway if there's one thing you gotta admit is that we have a shit provincial, if not at least municipal government. I mean in the grand scheme of thnigs it's probably not that bad, but there;s room for improvement, though I suppose that would always be the case.

i'm fine with home not being disney world.

what matters the most is those of us who live and work here everyday, not those who will visit for 4 days and leave.

i'm sure this is the case with any other city.

However you can't tell me I can't name third world countries and then name Afghanistan.

The fact is that you posted to say that you thought the OP had a point. The OP's point is that by having street names in French, Montreal is hurting it's tourism industry.

That point is wrong and has been proven wrong over the course of this topic.

Point la ligne

Ok thanks - and this is my last comment before I get owned to the point of no return. First, Afghanistan was mentioned in an ENTIRELY different context. Second, no I do not agree that street names being only in French is an issue. That is something that gives the city its character and I don't see why anybody would have a problem with that anyway.

Anyway seems this is getting beaten to death (though it may just be me). Quebec is a great place but the government here could spend its time and its money better. That is all.

I'm actually one who believes that Montreal is a terrific city to grow up and live in, but alas we're talking tourism here.

Anyway I swear to STFU now.

Let's all STFU then and agree that there is room for improvement. There will always be room for improvement.

I have lived here all my life and it doesn't bother me the language. Live and learn simple as that. "When in Rome do what the Romans do"

Ok first of all, 100% disagree with you. While im fully bilingual, i have lots of anglo friends that live AND work in montreal and have no problem with it. infact there are entire parts of the city that are almost exclusively anglo. montreal is the most anglo friendly city in quebec, trust me there are much worse, try being anglo up in abitibi and see how you like it.

Speaking as a born and raised anglophone mothertongue but fully bilingual Montrealer, this guy speaks the truth. amen, if you think Montreal is bad, vas-y dans l'banlieu.
