I'm not going to discuss where trance came from, just want to remark that about every answer I read here gets mentioned at this German wiki page too:

LMAO!

Progressive Trance ist eine Unterform des Trance in Verbindung mit Progressive House

that's what it says, and I bet it translates to progressive trance is a form of trance that originated from progressive house.

Posted by Bierheld on Oct-22-2011 16:26:

in verbindung mit = connected to

So your only evidence that progressive trance came from progressive house is that both can have tracks that are 10 minutes long?

...are you a fucking retard?

Posted by Mattsanity. on Oct-22-2011 17:02:

I may be insane and twisted but I ain't a retard.

I'm still waiting for your eloquent speech to prove me wrong again.

no the fact that they're long was only my 2nd argument. I already stated two facts:

- progressive trance debuted right after progressive house
- both genres can have tracks over 10 minutes long, which is significant leading up to my next point:

- their length shows how they're both focused on progression instead of being housey or trancey. progressive trance got that idea from progressive house - it had to. marc mitchell's productions as sunday club are quintessential when it comes to that progression.

Posted by Vector A on Oct-22-2011 17:10:

No.

The adjective "progressive" did not refer to "being focused on progression." That is just the later misinterpretation that Internet trance kids put on it.

Posted by Mattsanity. on Oct-22-2011 17:17:

lol well if yall keep being on the defensive instead of countering my arguments, I'm all for it.

who was talking about internet trance kids? I hate them too. the focus on progression is my argument.

Posted by Mattsanity. on Oct-22-2011 17:33:

Ishkur, you already had your fucking brightest hour.

-you proved me wrong by saying progressive trance exists (even though I was humble enough by not showing any resistance)
-you said trance didn't derive from house, and others proved your point.

give me my fucking spotlight now. progressive trance is progressive house's bitch ok?

Posted by Ishkur on Oct-22-2011 17:47:

Well, it's stupid because ALL TRANCE* has 10 minute tracks and minute progressions. That's why it's TRANCE. What's your next proof, that they both have a 4/4 kick?

I already explained earlier in this thread why you're wrong.

But since you need some sort of audio clue, here's a tip:

In 1992, when progressive house emerged, it sounded like this:

In 1994, when progressive trance emerged, it sounded like this:

You're putting up an awful lot of fight now for the existence of a genre that you earlier in the thread said didn't exist. If you want to say one is a direct antecedent of the other, go right ahead. History doesn't agree with you.

I'm not interested in fairness. Nor am I interested in bludgeoning you with the mallet of truth.

I am only interested in facts. If you say something that is wrong, I'm going to call you out on it.

Your fault for dragging me back here. Don't fucking do it again.

Posted by RebeL9 on Oct-22-2011 17:56:

No need to prove anything to him. He already made himself look like a clown when he said that Life on Mars sounded like hardtrance LOL

listen to it again nigga

obviously this doesn't sound like a shokk or alphazone track, but that's because early hard trance sounded different. I don't give a fuck what anyone says - this sounds like some bootleg hard trance labeled as progressive trance.

and LMAO @ THE ANTICLIMAX AT 4:36. evolution made some stompers but they also made some shitty tracks.

Matt, if anyone has been trolled into this thread, it's you. You're constantly smashing a genre with little thought to the relevance of your criticism. Even if your thesis was proven true, it will never, ever be as important as you seem to think it is. As it stands, the only thing you've done is created an artificial controversy where none would have existed, before.

I wasn't lying when I made this thread. I'm a 22 year old korean chump and former ban who's been on this site since 2003. don't be mad at me that TA's back in 2003 were saying progressive trance didn't exist. I made this thread solely on their case. it's easy to ridicule them when they existed 8 years ago.

I have to admit, for a 1994 track that caspar pound remix does sound like progressive trance.
I'm not a system j dickrider whatsoever but tell me why he says epic house is a subgenre of progressive house that bridged the gap between progressive house and progressive trance?

Which sounds nothing like Life on Mars

Probably because he's right, but not unconditionally.

Epic house is a pet genre of Jack's, inspired by his love of two mid 90s progressive house albums that are similar in mood, theme and content: BT - Ima and Blue Amazon - The Javelin. I like these albums too.

He has gone forth and through studious research, retconned several other tracks, artists and labels under this umbrella (most of them from Sasha & Digweed mixes), championing the genre through sheer persistence. While I am fairly ambivalent toward his efforts, I won't deny that within this makeshift genre one can find ample influences of both progressive house and progressive trance since all three were wholly owned subsidiaries of British club & rave culture at the time and most certainly influenced each other.

This does not imply, however, that one came from the other as you asserted. Except "epic house" coming from both (but mostly progressive house). All three would be annihilated by the prog and anthem scene within a year anyway.

Whoever says Progressive is Progressive Trance is a d*ck! Yes sometimes they have similarities but they aren't the same genre nonetheless.

Well "progressive" is a board term really. However, most people think progressive = Progressive house but they fail to realize that there is also progressive rock/Prog-Psy/Prog D&B...etc...

progressive trance = progressive house pitched up 5%. end of story

I think you can get your ears fixed.

Though i base my assumption on pre 2005. I haven't even listened to progressive trance since 2002.

Posted by Redd on Oct-23-2011 11:09:

why don't you read the thread instead of starting an argument about something already covered in it
