I have to say "no name DJs" is one of the most insulting things I have heard thrown around in this thread. Its reeks of close-mindedness. Where do we go to find out who the "named DJs" are? Do we look at the Charlotte line-ups? Because I will be straight up honest with you... I have not heard of 90% of them. They are "no name DJs" to me. I'm guessing since this is the Tranceaddict forum they are trance DJs?
Anyway, 90% of these "named DJs" are nothing more than flashes in the pan and will disappear into obscurity in two years or less.
Simply put, the majority of your "named DJs" are actually just niche DJs that nobody outside of your bubble has heard - which is exactly the same as the DJs listed for the Atlanta events that you keep poo-pooing on. TBH, I hadn't heard of them either. But I don't let whether or not I have heard of somebody get in the way of me having a good time.
Oh, for the record, Bazaar was a lounge/ resturant and not a club. It was open to trying different things, and so some nights floroushed there. But, it did not even have a real dancefloor, until the evening when tables were moved. The owners decision to rebrand had absolutely nothing to due with any percieved success as a nightclub. They did not want it to be a nightclub - and it was starting to turn into one. Don't take the fact that Bazaar is no more to mean anything other than the owner wanted to rebrand. I went there on many nights and the vibe was so think you could cut it with a knife. I think King Britt was my favorite, but there were many more. You know why a lounge, with no dance floor, no light show, and no real permenantly installed soundsystem went off so often? Because the people who went were all there for the music. I'll take an event with 100 people all there for the music over an event with 2000 people who are only there because they heard its where they should go and they needed somewhere to sport thier new Ed Hardy shirt any day of the week (preferably Fri or Sat).

I will admit that it is hard to "do it yourself" as a handful of you guys keep saying. A group of my friends who are passionate about the music did such a thing. We had a spot right OTP and did a few nights with even more well known locals like sublime and mayhem. The place was roomy, even served food all night, and we did everything ourselves, for free. There was never a cover, and we used home built speakers that produced something like 12,000 watts of sound. Never really brought anyone out.
I can say, though, since we did everything ourselves, I can almost guarantee nobody could possibly have any complaints of rude staff. We were the staff.
That went really well considering the place closed down eh? :P
We kinda gave up on it well before then. Sad, though... they had some menu items I can't find anywhere else. But everything in that strip was struggling.

That's why I support the idea of consistent venues.
I've gone to local DJ events where the music was awesome, it's just hard to really get into it with 5 or 6 people there.
I can blame my inability to dance unless I'm shitfaced. I can't have fun unless I dance, and I'm not that great at it, so I need a crowd to hide in or enough alcohol to not give a shit =P
So... local nights here and there never really pull that many people. However, if someone started something consistent (as in every weekend for longer than 3 weeks) I'm sure it'd pick up eventually.
Not likely to happen anytime soon, though.

My comment was serious business, we're starting to get some good shows again. Just ripping on the people calling the established international DJs we've been getting "no names."

| Originally posted by Dream Beamz I cant help the definition of a no name DJ, sorry. Even in my prime where I played at Avalon Boston I was a no named DJ, if you cant take criticism get off TA. I played at a restaurant in Ibiza does that make me an "established international DJ", hell no. Get out of your dream world and quit over hyping your events. Notice no one but your little circle of friends (who dont post outside any threads beside your own) has stuck up for you. If anyone else has it has been slim. And yes, if you cant find one single video from one of your Epic parties, I would consider them not too Epic, so what you packed out a restaurant. From what I have found from asking around it was due to lack of option that events did well at Bazzar. It was definitely not due to any kind of good promotion work or insanely good sound. Heck, no one here even heard about the events till after you came over saturating TA with crap threads. No one is saying that what you guys are trying to do for music is a bad thing, nor am I wanting you to stop. I am just tired of you guys coming to TA and hyping up your events like they were the most awesome and epic events that Atlanta has ever seen. You are preaching that shit to the wrong fucking message board at the very least. |

| Originally posted by iammesol There is a difference between playing in Ibiza at a restaurant, and then playing in Ibiza, LA, NYC, London, Barcelona, etc... at clubs, on Resident Advisor, having an international following, and having those international followers buying your music off of beatport every month. Matthias Tanzmann comes to mind... He was one of those "no-namers at Bazzaar." And the not having videos thing is hilarious to me. The last thing I wanted to do at Bazzaar was take a video while I was dancing to Konrad Black. |
so i heard Jerome Isma-Ae is opening for Armin on March 29th in Charlotte...
