We should just have a dedicated TA booze-stash outside the entrance. We'll take turns guarding it and whenever someone wants a drink they just walk a few steps outside and down one

^ If it meant I could still bring booze and drink it I'd totally do that. 30 minute shifts or something, whatever.

rumour has it the extra booze revenue is to pay for the imminent deadmau5 booking. My suggestion is have Marko1234 pay for all our drinks

Wow it looks like Montreal is starting to go the no fun route that Toronto has been on for years. In a typical simplistic approach to a problem they take the easy way out.

If the problem is really with underage drinking then ID everyone who comes in and deny entry to anyone underage with booze. Or increase enforcement and make sure underage people can't purchase the booze in the first place.

If the problem is with people who are wasted (booze or drugs) then deal with those people. Kick them out, arrest them for public intoxication, or child endangerment.

Instead of making people responsible for themselves, dealing with the few bad apples it is simpler to change the rules and not allow BYOB. As many people have said I don't think this will change anything. Those who go to Piknic to get fucked up will still get fucked up (do more drugs, binge drink prior to getting in, hiding booze outside the fenced area).

My bigger fear is that after this year and they don't see a big improvement they will make Piknic alcohol free next year. Be warned Montreal you are going down a slippery slope on your way to becoming another NO FUN city like Toronto.

Toute bonne chose a une fin! Nouvelle politique concernant l'alcool

AVIS AUX LECTEURS: Curs sensibles sabstenir !

Vos dvous organisateurs

I think the last sentence says it best. If that's what the authorities want them to do...might as well.

Imagine a summer without Piknic.

Here is what one of the organisers said on Facebook:

They positioned it as a mesure to prevent abuse but the truth lies in the sentence above imo.

Good thing! Back to what is about, music, people, familly. The bad side, people will use drugs. Drugs users, it will be easier see them. Overeacted people, face reaction. Watchout crackheads!

And this is why I said earlier that this move was to be expected.

Michel has always said that they were not compliying with alcohol regulations.

They had a freebie for a while, now they don't. It wasnt going to last.

We have to dela with it.

Here's to hoping they will continue to apply the same attentive control with the crackheads.

they should re-introduce the $5 before 3PM rule to counterbalance this massive fail.

agreed.

what's for next year? 15$ entrance? 2 bottle minimum on the bean bags? hahahahaha

Posted by fastmonkey on Apr-28-2010 17:32:

Change was inevitable but it will be normal that they reduce the price of alcohol if the change is not for more profits.

Posted by brancatella on Apr-28-2010 18:09:

2$ dollar beers would solve the problem but they'll probably be at least $5....

Posted by princesultan on Apr-28-2010 18:13:

i'm sure they will work something out that will make people some what happy. to me, this isn't the end of the world. and the people that organize piknic don't strike me as the kind that are in it for the money.

Posted by Instinctman on Apr-28-2010 18:44:

Stop dreaming about reducing cover & alcohol prices. It's over. Some asshole overused drugs and alcohol, they do the right thing for these stupid people. You can't bring your alcohol, they sale it , point. Bring juice, water, redbull. it's not that hard!

concur, but tell that to the inflatable whale guy

I don't expect them to sell $2 beer, though that's certainly a way to kill several birds with one stone and please many. The no-rules
Piknic had its time and this is still better than losing Piknic.
