Only in TO for the DEMF thread but saw this. I've been making back losses hand over fist this week. I'm 100% short and have been for months (which has me almost even now). If you couldn't see a big correction coming soon after the 14 month rise from 666 to what was the high, 1200+, in the S&P, you're in fantasy land.
We've been long overdue for a correction and the Europe situation + China trying to slow it's bubble-like growth are just speeding the decline. This is not all Europe and I'm surprised people are ignoring China as much as they have been. The miners, mining equipment cos., dry bulk ships, etc. have been absolutely slaughtered in this sell-off. Look at a BUCY, DRYS, or JOYG chart for the past month. Most of them sold off far more than the banks today.
Everyone in this thread has the magical crystal ball...especially the folks playing volatility. Who really here owns (or has access to) a Bloomberg or Reuters terminal?

one thing I've noticed in markets like this, and this is my first experience dealing with this sort of phenomenon, is that it's interesting to see how margin calls affect price movements in really low volume small cap names. I own a company that's traded OTC and I've seen it happen a couple of times, as soon as the price hits a certain level, the margin call is triggered and a huge sell order is executed, and this usually knocks the price down in excess of 20%. If you're on top of this, it presents a great buying opportunity as these people, or so I've noticed at least with this particular equity, eventually move their way back into the position.
kind of ties into what I said earlier about timing. nobody can time perfectly, but what makes someone a professional investor, to a degree, fund managers in particular, is their ability to move in and out of their holdings and take in incremental profits. I guess it's something that just comes with experience, and living, breathing, eating, and sleeping in the market every day of your life.

The TSX doing quite well compared to the exchanges in the US.

Something to watch.... SNA.v
Been watching this stock for about 8 months worth checking out. its volatile but the technology is stellar.
Star Navigation systems. SNA.V or SNA on the TSX venture.
Long story short its a company that makes a black box that does real time data. no need to search for the box after a crash its all live data prior to an accident along with the logging of pilot trends, fuel consumption trends, maintenance trends based on usage and abuse by pilots etc etc.
They are partnered with EADS Astrium. Eads is the parent company of AirBus and Astrium is the aero space side of the business. Anyway I love the technology and this is very promising, bought in at about 12 cents still holding.

both companies have limited cash flow. And AMA is already in a pending Patent infringement battle with SNA, of which SNA has backed off on due to the fact that AMA would not be able to settle financially should SNA win.
If you check out the patent registration dates SNA patented the technology YEARS before AMA.
just my 2 cents.
