Well for starters, I can hardly believe that people are still posting to this thread. I still stand by my original vote for pop (no, I didn't vote again) but I am seriously concerned for this thread with how far back pop is in the thread. I'd rather listen to rap than pop pretty much any day. What you guys aren't realizing here is that that genre is mixed up badly. You can't really combine rap with "urban" since "urban" is just another word for r&b, pop-rap, and hip-hop. It's much too broad of a category. When I think of rap, I don't think of the rap you hear on the radio or on mtv, I think of old-school rap which in my mind simply doesn't exist anymore. I'm talking about dogg pound, chronic, Warren G, etc. Good rap died in the late '90's. I can't even think of any names of current rap vocalists because I simply dislike it so much, but the truth of it is that none of the current big names in the world of rap really compare at all to the old guys. So I still say that pop is the hands down worst of all times, and in my mind I'm putting that so called "urban" subgenre right with the pop music and just killing off as much bad music as I can with one shot. hehehe

Anyhow, this is a very subjective outlook and I'm not getting on people's cases that voted anti-rap. I AM however getting on the cases of the lack of votes for the terribleness of pop music.

well

Its hard to pick one as quite a few genres are atrocious.

Namely: pop, rap, hiphop, r&b, rock
The ones above are the ones that disgust me most

But I have issues with other genres too.

I hate 99 % of rock.

I hate house cause to me its boring and weird.

I hate commercial dance - so fucking cheesy

2 more important things though:
a) i dont pass judgement on folk/country; i personally hate it, never listent to it, but its the one genre i dont pass judgement on cause folk/country music has cultural meaning usually for the people that like it

b) those people that say they like trance but dislike classical are retards that dont know what trance is and are in essence contradicting themselves

Basically if its not uplifting trance, prog trance, psy trance, ambient, classical, or chillout music (ie hallucinogen) i'll never willfully listen to it

How the hell can anyone who listens to trance hate house? If it wasn't for Chicago house and people like Derrick May developing house music, there most likely would be no trance. Also, without Afrika Bambaataa and other early hip-hop artists using samplers/drum machines, do you think trance or electronica would have progressed as far as it has? I think not.

As for what music I like, I like atleast one artist in every category. Even in country/folk, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash are great, in my opinion. In the thrash genre, I love Slayer. So I guess I like everything.

Tornado I think Im not the only person who loves trance and doesn't like house.

What you say may be true, but personally I'll associate classical with trance any day over house with trance.

Eh, it's all good. To each his own.

rap all the way

Posted by w00h00 on Jan-18-2003 04:35:

blah eminem blah blah
that gets back to my point.. what eminem does in my mind is NOT rap. It's just spoken pop music. It does not live up to what in my mind is defined as rap from the earlier onset of the genre. Eminem is no more rap to me than kid rock is rock. As far as house, I'm indifferent. I'd rather hear that than most popular rock commercial (pop) dance, pop-rock, etc. etc. The huge problem with the majority of music available today is even the rare good stuff gets so overplayed that I just can't stand it after a couple weeks. A bunch of my friends are not into trance music or even much of the majority of its closest relatives in the electrical music world, but I can tolerate what they listen to simply because they aren't listening to whatever's on the radio. And they don't buy cd's of whatever is popular on the radio at the time. What's that line from The Crow.. the idea has become the institution.. something like that. I'm not saying that I listen to trance just so I can say I listen to something different, and I'm not saying that just becuase a musical style is not popular it's good either. Yet it is true if I say that I dislike pop because it goes nowhere and there is no originality. Blah.. I don't know how to summarize this now..

I was going somewhere with this, but it's late and I'm too tired to think of it. I partially dislike pop simply because it's popular but I mainly dislike it because it's unoriginal. I'm not so set against rap becuase what people consider rap now is really just pop music with a supposed "streets" background. It's a bunch of bull, and it's useless to me, but I did like older rap because it was original back then.

Granted, most songs on Eminem's LP's suck, but have you ever heard him freestyle? God damn...

Jester

Eminem is the biggest joke in the history of music !

I'm all about variety and there is no exception when it comes to music. I can't really say there's a genre I hate. There are certain ones I can tolerate less than others, but I'm addicted to music in general. Gotta love it.
