BTW, Tabu before the fire averaged 800-950 through the door EVERY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY (with the exception of xmas day and a snow storm day) and if you added in 140 west they averaged about 2500 people a weekend. If you were there you would have seen that.

Beta will be a destination spot. People will travel in from lots of surrounding areas. This is not a regular nightclub. I guess you will have to see when it is up and running. A large part of our Saturday market is the tri-cities and surrounding areas sick of driving to Toronto paying $15-$20 for parking $15-$20 to get into a venue for the same experience over and over again.

Never the less in respect to the summer months, give you an idea of the busiest months in order of revenue for Waterloo in 2009.

1) September
2) August
3) January
4) July
5) October
6) February

worst month is December.

Summer is a great time to separate yourself from the competition. Most places don't do well because they are not nightclubs in the area. They ARE DARK rooms that throw a couple lights up and hire the cheapest DJ they can get for a night. They do not attempt any marketing nor listen to what people want. If all else fails they lower drink prices and hope for the best. If they really get desperate they sign up for a live to air and dish out 3k while doing $2.50 drinks.

Furthermore, there is no fine line in this business of making money. You either make really good money or you haemorrhage money.

BTW, REV does over 3000 people a weekend now.

I had the pleasure of seeing Calvin Harris play last night infront of 550 people on A WEDNESDAY night with a $30 ticket price at a venue that didn't earn any respect. The scene is there, it needs a venue to find the right combination of DJs, promotion.

FYI - Steve Angello is 75% sold out and the date is 2 weeks out and noone has ever seen the venue.

We are building a WORLD CLASS venue. When you walk in you will know your in something different. So yeah I think people will come down from Milton, London, Guelph, Cambridge, Hamilton to go to a venue that blows 99% of venues in the area away and asks you to pay $5 to see DJs such as Wally Lopez, Glenn Morrison, Sdyney Blu, Deko-ze, Manzone & Strong, and SOOO MANY MORE COMING.

I'm glad to see that you are doing something different and by the sounds of it you are taking clubbing in KW to a new level. I have no doubt the club will be a success....but I do have doubts that a dedicated House/EDM night will survive long term.

For KW it is something different......its good marketing to bring in the DJs people travel to toronto to see.

Thank-you

We want to be true to a format that works. We will play with it and grow it as much as we can. People are failing to even look at the small aspect that we are open until 4am on Saturday out of the gate.

BABYSTEPS....

people here seem to think I want to see Beta fail which is exactly the opposite of what I want to see happen. I want to see an EDM scene thrive in KW and I want to see a club that is willing to bring in the big names on a regular basis. I know I would much rather go to KW to party then Toronto but there needs to be a club that is going to bring in a variety of International DJs from a variety of genres. I don't want to see a club that has gone the way of something like Guvernment has where they bring in the same DJs year in and year out....that being said Guv has gotten better about that.

I may be cynical but I have past experience with the area and I know how difficult it can be to get EDM, and I'm not talking the commercially popular EDM, to work in the area. It seems some people here live in this perfect little bubble and can't see or refuse to believe there are many hurdles to get over. Things always look great when you don't take off the rose colored glasses.

Interesting discussion. Good to see a lively discourse without hostility. ChemEnhanced plays a good devil's advocate and the rest of you are somewhat restrained in calling him out on it. I can't stand nuthugging threads or flame wars so this thread strikes a nice balance.

On the surface dude looks like he can run a club from the marketing side in that he seems to know his target demographic and is creating the necessary hype. Not sure about the operational or finance capabilities, but I assume he's got that covered too.

Definitely would like to revisit this thread in one, two, and three years from now to see see how this venture goes from here.

I definitely like a thread where people can skip the name calling and actually discuss something. The only way to have any decent discussion is for someone to take the unpopular side of the discussion.

Even bringing in north American dj's like saeed younan, Tom Stephan aka superchumbo, richie Santana, Peter bailey, honey Dijon, scumfrog, etc etc shouldn't cost too much to bring in and i know they could definitely throw down a serious fuckin party. Only reason I'm suggesting these djs is it seems like beta has a sonic style feel to it, and even though it might not have the same crowd, these djs would be so suitable for the club layout and atmosphere!

Just a suggestion!

Old theatre turned club, big open dancefloor, heigh ceilings, killer soundsystem. I think it would be dope for big room sound house, tribal
