You're just talking about what's popular here, in general EDM doesn't pick up one noise IMO.
I even doubt if those were most popular or just got more attention because they were "different".

Okay, fair enough. But if anyone needs a track to explain the sound of their genre then its obviously not the most "legit" of 2011, because otherwise most people here would already have been exposed to it and understand what the poster is referring to.

It's just an interesting juxtaposition, because in a lot of ways I kind of feel like this is what I've been waiting a long time for; there is so much music out there right now that I love, I haven't spent the kind of time I have record shopping lately in years.

I had gotten so painfully bored I just stopped. I was only acutely aware of what was coming out, who was doing what, but wasn't really into a lot of it. I got almost completely removed from any recent releases, then I think heard Electric Jones - "Dogging Days" a few months back, and it basically started me on a rampage of digging for weeks and weeks. It was like I was having fun again, totally discovering stuff on my own; it was as unpretentious and honestly as I'd shopped for music in a while.

So while hearing it described as soulless and for the "k-tards" isn't really surprising, it's hard not to find it a bit disappointing as well.

Oh it's no problem at all, and bears no explanation - I think you and I know each other well enough not to get in a tizzy over matters of taste.

Opinions like those are just always a little more of a bitter pill to swallow from friends or those whose taste you respect than from faceless automatons out there in the ether, but it certainly doesn't make me enjoy it any less.
