You say that, but the cops can't pull you over if you're not doing anything wrong, unless it's a random checkpoint. They can pull you over for going a couple mph over the speed limit, but if you're going at or under the limit, come to complete stops at lights/signs, signal lane changes and turns, they really have no grounds to pull you over.

Get out of the south, imo.

Regardless, I think it's pretty absurd that you're claiming that police officers in the South pull random people over for no reason at all.

http://www.centurycouncil.org/state-facts/new-york (36,000+ total arrests)

http://www.centurycouncil.org/state-facts/florida (53,000+ total arrests)

...and New York has half a million people more population-wise.

It has nothing to do with random. It has to do with how they "police" down here.

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-14-2012 20:53:

So they "police" people for obeying all traffic laws?

Like I said, stupid people get in accidents whether they're drunk or not. Intelligent people recognize that they're drunk, and compensate by driving a lot more carefully than they normally would if they weren't drunk.

Intelligent people don't drive drunk, period.

You may think that "oh yeah, i'm doing the speed limit, i'm stopping at all stop signs, i'm not doing anything stupid" but that's your inpaired thoughts. In reality, someone should be video taping your driving while you are impaired; so you can see it while you are sober and realize that while you thought you were "OK" there was more than likely something you were doing wrong, that you wouldn't have done wrong while sober.

This goes for texting as well.

Then explain the countless people who drive drunk all the time and never get in accidents or pulled over for doing anything wrong.

Luck. There's no cops on the particular road they're on. This isn't rocket science

You're right, it isn't rocket science. Stupid people don't get in accidents or pulled over for doing stupid things whether they're drunk or sober. But yeah, I'm sure it's just luck that there are people who drive drunk multiple times every week for 20-30 years and never once get pulled over or in an accident.

Posted by OrangestO on Jan-14-2012 22:04:

I've driven home drunk many times before; blacked-out drunk. It's amazing how the human mind and body can manage to navigate itself to a location recalled from memory while being unresponsive to anything going on in its environment.

What's the science behind that?

Because being blacked out just relates to your memory of what you did. You're still functional while you're blacked out. You're not unresponsive to things going on at the time.

But by your rational, those are the intelligent people. ones who drive drunk for 20-30 years and never get caught by the cops...

Just because you don't get caught, doesn't mean you're intelligent or some kind of really awesome driver when you're drunk. The bottom line is that alcohol impairs your senses. If your senses are impaired, then your motor skills are impaired, which would reduce your skill in operating a motor vehicle.

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-14-2012 22:17:

No, my rational(sic), is that stupid people get in accidents whether they're drunk or not. If you have to drive drunk, it's pretty easy to compensate for that slight impairment.

There's a variation of what unresponsive can mean here.

You asking me for the keys and me not saying anything but starting the car and driving away is unresponsive. Steering a car and not having a clue about where I am, who I am, or what I'm doing is unresponsive. I might be responsive in the sense I'm still alive, but otherwise I'm on what I like to call autopilot.

Posted by OrangestO on Jan-14-2012 22:23:

I once drove a bus drunk and thought it was a space shuttle.

You're not understanding though. When you're "blacked out" it's not as if you're a zombie. You're still fully conscious. You know where you are, who you are, and what you're doing. You just think you didn't in hindsight because you can't remember it.

Uhm....if you're drunk I have a feeling it's more than just a "slight" impairment....

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-14-2012 22:27:

It's not.

Posted by OrangestO on Jan-14-2012 22:27:

Whoa bro, I had to hit the bong again to totally get that shit.

That's deep.

So you're saying that when you're drunk, you are only slightly impaired. That your impairment is not big enough, you can drive a vehicle without causing danger to anyone (including yourself) on the road, correct?

Just so I'm understanding this completely, what is your definition of "drunk"?

Posted by Sushipunk on Jan-14-2012 22:34:

Fucking bullshit

Are you trolling, srussell?

I consider drunk to be the point where I can't stand up straight anymore.

Good thing you sit when you drive
