Looking forward to the pics, video and hopefully recording from this night, Happy New Year!

That sucks. Going to miss you Don but what did I tell you about Indian food? :-p

Dislike. Always more fun when all your friends are there on the dance floor. And that's one less person to help me stay awake near the end! Sounds serious though. Rest up and get better.

ah crap, that sucks. i think part of markus' NYE set at ruby skye ended up being a world tour episode... hope he records tonight as well!

see everyone else there!

What happened to Markus? That was a total letdown. Way too much cheese and garbage, ended up leaving at 3am. Definitely have lost faith in producers these days. These new trance songs nowadays aren't even anywhere near where they were when I first joined the scene

Posted by Calabria on Jan-01-2013 12:37:

i cant stand the new productions of trance. 2012 was a bad year for "trance". usually markus plays his style of dark and dirty trance though...specially if he has 13hrs

i think you left too early.

i'm not there (yet) but it's only 3/4 AM

Posted by modthispny on Jan-01-2013 13:26:

I agree the beginning of his set was different. Played some cheese but then stuff we've never heard.

It's 525 am still going strong. Big crowd left.

And wow! Dropping a lot of techno bombs that's I've never heard. Very afterhours vibe.

You should have sticker around getting really good.

Markus = animal.

I left at about 5:30, crowd sucked. NYE people aren't like the normal crowd. It felt like just a bunch of people trying to fuck their date on the dance floor, and I was getting death stares by every dude along with it. Lots of normal top40 grind with your girl type of club people me thinks.

from 5-9 wow those of u who left missed out

If I have to wait 6 hours just to hear a decent song, you know it's going bad. How can you call yourself the unicorn slayer and drop that cheese for 4 hours? I've seen Markus probably 40 times, byfar the worst was last night

We're going to be seeing this more and more. EDM is top 40 now.

Posted by Cool1g on Jan-02-2013 01:18:

how late did he play? just curious...

Posted by Paul Anthony on Jan-02-2013 01:31:

we left around 9:30. so he prolly ended around 10

Posted by modthispny on Jan-02-2013 01:51:

i think you guys are being too critical, he played for 12 hrs on NYE, it's not a crime that he played some vocals and mainstream stuff around 12-2, it's expected, not everybody there is a diehard markus fan and he read the crowd very well.

his music after 2 ish 3, wow!!!! unbelievable for a top trance dj to have selections like that in his arsenal.

Posted by DaveT on Jan-02-2013 02:11:

I wouldn't say anyone is being "too critical." THese people paid money - If someone doesn't like how a DJ plays, they should say they didn't like how the DJ played. A person shouldn't expect to wait several hours to hear stuff they like. Especially if the first part of the set is just off-base and completely different from what they expected (and not in a good way) going by the DJ's past.

Maybe Markus played too long of a set for his own good? (How long did he play, BTW?)

It does happen...

Anyhow, this post goes for any DJ and is not particular to Markus last night...

Markus could do the same thing again and play a very different set, who knows. What can be said, though, is that peeps seem to be a bit critical of last night overall, especially for the first part of the set.

Wish I could've made it, but the responses here, FB, and other places have made me feel a little better. One night won't change my impression of him, though, especially since I wasn't there myself.

Posted by modthispny on Jan-02-2013 02:21:

he played for 12 hrs, 10-10.

the set was what you would expect from NYE(early parts) definitely different than his solo set for la '12. his last few times at avalon, he didn't really stay in the rabbit hole that much and played familiar stuff, but last night, have never heard him with such an underground sound, i hardly recognized any of the songs. i loved this part and love it when he gets on a techno tip.

if you left at 3 am you would have been disappointed, but if you stayed the majority of set, you would have no issues with the set. when he plays long sets, you need to be there the whole time to experience it the way it's intended to be experienced, from beginning to end.

Posted by Miss Julia on Jan-02-2013 03:17:

That was an eventful experience.

I don't like Avalon staff though ugh.

Posted by Miss Julia on Jan-02-2013 05:59:

Btw very nice to meet a couple of you for the first time

Posted by LiquidX on Jan-02-2013 06:18:

There were a couple of tracks that I could have lived without last night, but I had a good time. I've been attending and following Markus from he's early days in Miami. In terms of playing some cheese, I think every DJ in the top ranks of DJ mag does that for that long of a set. Having said that, Markus played some banging tunes that had me surprised and happy about. Overall a great time! Won't say it was the best I've seen of him but still def. worth it to been able to be there. TBH hearing that remix of synaesthesia was one of the highlights.

My only rant is paying 10 bucks for a watered down gin and tonic, worst I've had anywhere.
