I've read that a lot of people still have the occasional glass of whole milk. I think dairy is a lot less unnatural for your digestive system than grains are, unless you're lactose intolerant. I try to avoid it when possible, but I've had it my whole life and have never had any issues, plus I love milk. I still try to limit it to once a week or so. Ooga booga

lol Paleo diet

On a more serious note, I'd be willing to make fun of people for always ordering Phat Thai if it wasn't so fucking delicious. It's definitely not the only thing I order at Thai places, but I do probably order it half the time. Too damn good. Especially when it's so spicy you're crying.

Yeah man, it's awesome. But Thai food in general is awesome, IMO

There used to be a great Thai place about 250 feet from my house, but they moved

I could definitely use some Thai right now...

Eh, I am not sold on the zealotry behind its promotion. Grains have worked for humans for a long time, and anyone trying to sell you life extension is probably a fool. But the last time I tried it, I noticed certain effects I was not expecting in the least, so I was convinced I didn't placebo myself into feeling better, which is certainly a possibility with any lifestyle change.

Regardless, any diet change that encourages you to fill up on meat and vegetables, with fruit in moderation, cannot be a bad thing, especially when combined with strength training. Whatever steers people away from the processed crap with demonstrable results is not without merit. But you won't see me defending the virtue of wearing a mammoth loincloth or setting net traps for the squirrels in my backyard.

We feed bread to the squirrels sometimes anyway, so they're obviously tainted!

I just think it's funny that a vegetarian is laughing at the paleo diet.

Posted by DJ RANN on Jun-29-2013 00:27:

I think it's funny that allegedly heterosexual men are talking about "diets" and it's not a complaint about womens eating habits.

Posted by srussell0018 on Jun-29-2013 00:32:

It's not a diet to lose weight, it's a diet to make your body not clogged up with chemicals and unnecessary glucose. That's like saying talking about exercising is gay.

Posted by Syntonic on Jun-29-2013 06:00:

ha, after that post I was like...summer really isn't much different.
I heard several different methods of doing it, some kind of bonkers.

and now I still haven't had deep fried turkey, but I did have a deep fried PB&J and chocalate covered bacon at state fair

Do many people have a deep-fryer that big though? A turkey is a pretty big bird

Posted by Syntonic on Jun-29-2013 06:12:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkey_fryer

is that even a question when talking about americans?

I heard of people using garbage cans and usually around thanksgiving there are reports of fires and shit.

Huh, well there you go.

Turkey isn't so popular over here, at all. No one I know has ever deep fried a turkey, as far as I know. Or even a chicken, lol.

Posted by Syntonic on Jun-29-2013 07:12:

Think those are big enough for a wallaby?

Posted by meriter on Jun-29-2013 07:51:

dont deep fry me bro

Posted by Sushipunk on Jun-29-2013 08:04:

Have you guys ever tried Kangaroo meat, though? It's quite delicious. Not even joking. Super lean, too.

Posted by Syntonic on Jun-29-2013 09:00:

I was going to ask but didn't out of fear. Is emu a favorite there? Now that's a bird...good god.

I'm not going to pass judgement over the effects of the diet itself, but I do think it's utterly laughable that RUSSELL's blog entry tried to suggest that people lived longer in prehistoric times.

Posted by netroM on Jun-29-2013 11:40:

Well, the "author"'s story is interesting.

(from 10mins in to about 20-25mins in)

Posted by srussell0018 on Jun-29-2013 13:29:

People back then died from animal attacks and things like that. Not from obesity related illness, heart disease, diabetes, etc. from shoveling bags of crisps into their fat mouth every day. Let's just forget about modern medicine too. Put people with those diets in modern time and they'd absolutely outlive most people today.

Eating processed shite is the reason why perfectly healthy looking 45 year olds drop dead from massive heart attacks. The bad carbs damage your blood vessels (since it's unnatural to consume them, kind of like ingesting a foreign body), causing stenosis, and then the LDL that would normally pass right on through gets stuck to the swollen and hardened arteries. It's really not UTTERLY LAUGHABLE or hard to understand at all.

It's also why nobody gave a shit about cholesterol and saturated fat 60 years ago, and rates of heart disease and other cardiovascular illness were no higher than they are today.
