I might take a look later today. Depends on how I'm feeling after I eat breakfast. There's obviously not much point listening if I'm in an "all music is annoying" mood. I don't use mixcloud because it doesn't allow downloads.

Posted by jonmitz on Jan-30-2014 22:42:

This isnt at all related to this thread... but I don't use mixcloud (or listen to mixes on mixcloud) because they don't show tracklists. I refuse to waste any of my time listening to any mix without knowing what I'm getting into first. I understand why they do it, I really do. Lets be honest: 80%+ of mixes out there are pure crap and I'm not going to roll the dice that X mix on mixcloud will be The One and spend 30 minutes of my time realizing that the DJ sucks. I can't always tell if I'm going to like a mix from a tracklist, but I can at least get a general idea (having been a DJ for almost a decade and been involved in most genres at one point or another, I can generally recognize artists and labels very quickly)

(This has nothing to do with System-J's mixcloud mixes which I'm sure are all superb.)

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jan-30-2014 22:49:

Most of my mixes on Mixcloud have permalinks in the mix description so you can still download them. And Mixcloud does show tracklists. Not sure where you've got that idea from. Example: http://old.mixcloud.com/jack-moss/c...ressive-breaks/

Posted by jonmitz on Jan-31-2014 04:15:

Wow, thats the first time I have ever seen a tracklist. (I never really click links to mixcloud)

This is from 2012: http://support.mixcloud.com/custome...information-go-

My thoughts 40 minutes in: It's been a bit "eclectic" as Bierheld and SJ have said but there's definitely been a wide variety of interesting tracks and I feel like it overall has some flow and an overall mood to it. There's been some nice directions it's taken at times. [just finished]: Well I think it's fairly interesting overall, I'll give it a listen another time as well. There's room for improvement but it's pretty good for chilled out techno/ambient music listening.

Posted by jonmitz on Feb-03-2014 22:19:

where all the mixes at? only 4/10 so far.

e: ya i know its been extended a week, but still

Posted by ziptnf on Feb-04-2014 14:00:

This forum upgrade might cause me to extend it even further. I gave everyone plenty of time but if everyone can't get it in, that will be a huge disappointment.

That was one day or so... and since people already knew the deadline that shouldn't actually delay anyone doing any mixing at all. I can definitely understand wanting to perfect things but surely if that's what people were doing they'd give us a status update about their mix at least. PivotTechno said maybe but surely there'd be at least a couple more. Ah well, we know the problem's not in the administration

Posted by Bierheld on Feb-04-2014 16:33:

Red face

Well I'll definitely be able to make the deadline barring me ending up in a hospital or something. Heck I could submit something right now, I just like to take my time. The complete lack of any signs of life is a bit disturbing though I do agree, but I think the guys that are still open now have a good track record in the genre challenges right?

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Feb-04-2014 16:59:

I sent Dave King a text to see if he had anything planned, he said he was going to try and get it mixed on the Sunday just gone. If he hasn't submitted anything by the weekend I'll badger him when I see him on Saturday.

It's just strange, when I go to the regular tranceaddict.com/forums, I'm met with a message that says the upgrade is still going on.

Yeah, they do, but rules are rules. It's not fair to the people who actually participate, to sign up and then bail out after the challenge begins. I put it in big bold red letters that they can't participate in the genre challenge in September if they do that.

I got a PM from him earlier, he said he'd have it in soon.

Excellent. Now where's my feedback, ye bastard?

Really? That only lasted a few hours for me, and ended a few days ago now.

Posted by PivotTechno on Feb-04-2014 22:02:

Yup, still getting the outage/redirect message here, too.

Still aiming to get my mix done this week, but it'll be a close one, as I have a lot on my plate at the moment. Such is a life of self-employment - hustlin' like raindrops.

Posted by Bierheld on Feb-04-2014 22:03:

You guys tried ctrl + F5 yet? Worked for me.

Posted by Lews on Feb-05-2014 06:02:

I was extremely sick the last few weeks, so wasn't able to do much productive, but mine's coming soon. With the extension, I was hoping / still hoping I could track down one tune, but have reformulated my mix, instead, will get it together in the next day or two.

Will be getting reviews back on everyone's mixes in the next couple weeks, too

Sounds like something to do with cached DNS.

Posted by jonmitz on Feb-05-2014 18:48:

Where SandLeaper at? Been looking forward to his mix

don't let us down!

Posted by Sand Leaper on Feb-06-2014 10:45:

I won't. Don't expect an easy listen or anything particularly danceable, though.

Posted by djdk on Feb-06-2014 16:06:

Hypersleep, suspended animation, stasis whatever you want to call it, is often used as a device to get around the disparity between the enormity of space and the brevity of any single human existence. What would it be like? Would you dream? If so what would it be like to dream for 5, 10, 100 years? What would it mean for the human condition if you lived for 100 or 200 years after your birth but with a normal physical age? Would the human race split into those that travel between the stars and those that remain on their home-worlds?

This is what was running through my head when I was putting this together, I think it fits with the theme fairly well. I've tried to pick tracks that evoke the vastness of space and also the loneliness and isolation that might arise from an interstellar existence.

Were I to have more time I would probably like to dig a bit deeper for more tracks but if I dont submit this now I will miss the deadline, which would be a real shame!

Enjoy!

Looks tasty Dave, and something a little different from you as well. Little drum n bass twist at the end by the looks of it D&B making a good showing in this competition so far.

Posted by djdk on Feb-06-2014 17:42:

Yeah the thing I've enjoyed about these challenges previously is the actual challenge of doing something well outside of the comfort zone. Its just a shame I've been so damn busy this month and haven't had as much time as I would have liked to crate dig. I literally only started on Sunday morning and didnt really finalise the concept in my head til Monday night.

Still, perhaps the pressure helps the creative juices!

Posted by jonmitz on Feb-06-2014 22:12:

listening to zipnif's mix and really enjoying it so far. will edit with updates when i finish (which will be later tonight due to meetings from 3-5!)

e: yeah this is amazing. sent to a bunch of my friends

Posted by Mr Game+Watch on Feb-07-2014 01:07:

So far I've listened to all the mixes in the thread at least once... will be posting reviews once I get one or two more listens under my belt. Really feeling Dave's so far, it's EXACTLY what I expected a sci-fi mix to be.

My own mix is coming, unfortunately it seems a lot of the tracks I picked out, while rhythmic, have wildly varying BPM ranges. So I might mix a few of them, do some ambient blends, etc... gotta see how I can do this. It's not like the usual for me where either I have 5+ hours and tons of tracks to gradually ramp up BPMs, or I stick between a few BPM.

So far I have the TL picked out, the theme and the cover art :P It's definitely sci-fi, but at the same time it's definitely me.

Driving out to the Hamptons on Saturday so I will make this mix for the ride...

Posted by Psyshell on Feb-08-2014 11:21:

I really enjoyed djdk's mix. There was a wide variety of musical styles but it still had a strong overall theme and nice flow. Thanks for the mix!
