in what way does VINYL improve the sound? I always thought it was an outdated media with lots of flaws..

The only problem there is, is that a vinyl starts to sound worse after a while. The sleeves get damaged by the needle scratching on the vinyl.
It is an outdated medium, but it is still the best one to actually FEEL/SEE the music.
There is no audio difference 'cuz of the RIAA correction.
My boss is going to buy me a setup for a gift, but I can't decide which to go with, CDJ's or Turntables.
My question is this, for someone who will casually learn how to mix and is just starting out, which should I go with? I don't have any plans to be playing inside any clubs anytime soon...
vinyl = harder but more fun, expensive media
Cd = More expensive in players, but cheaper media.
I've got two cdj100s and a 1200MK2. Once you know how to beatmatch, its a skill thats transferable to both. Once I get a better PC though, I'll be uploading the vinyl to CDR and preserving it.
vinyl is def more fun though
ive been spinning cds for 3 yrs now and i love it.
okay
i'm planning to get DJ equipment very soon and i've been trying to decide CD or vinyl.
i'm going to be practicing how to beatmatch and basically learning how to mix since i've never done it before. the way i figure is vinyls are for later, once you have a lot of skill and a lot of money. i have neither skill nor money to buy vinyl after vinyl (and afford replacing them after they get scratched or melted).
so i'm going to get CD turntables to start out with and learn and have fun, then if i ever get really serious and get some more income, then i can go get a pair of turntables and use both.
thank you everyone for helping me decide, i read a lot of this thread.
cd's cd's and cd's only
i just love cd's, used to play vinyl but i traded most of them for cd's. its new technology, but it doesnt matter if you play with cd or vinyl, its the same thing, just the formats are different, thats all.

I just saw Hybrid play Friday night and they used about 50% vinyl and 50% cdr. Are you telling me that you'd rather see some 14 year old kid with belt-driven tables who only found out what a turntable is last week than Hybrid????? Shut up, dude*
That is indeed one of THE most stupid comments that I've ever heard on these board.
No wait, it definitely IS !

i was screaming "vinyl only" for so long, but now with tools like final scratch and the addition of quality cd decks to the market over the past few years.. the sky's the limit.
still, i'll choose analog over digital anyday.

the only thing i don't like about when people are discussing vinyl vs. cds is they go to the piracy issue. I'm not a fan of piracy, but when it comes down to it, when people say they want cd-decks they make it no secret the reason for getting them is for loading mp3s on their cds and playing them out (not to say i wouldn't). Just that, even for people that buy cd-decks make it seem that its alreadya given that they'll pirate music, since they say they can't afford vinyl. You CAN buy cd singles, there's plenty, maybe not as much as vinyl but its probably easier to find seeing as how in regular stores they sell them.
However i understand that starting out and not throwing money at vinyl is great since it may just be a thing on the side for some people. I think that cd decks are the future of the genres of mixing (trance/prog/techno all that stuff) seeing as how thats whats mainly done for djs for mixing. You can get precision mixing with cds, plus vinyl won't wear out - they're cds after all. When it comes to battle/hip hop its going to take alot of convincing over time, and it probably will never happen, seeing as how its lasted this long, even with the improved technology - people want to feel the vinyl under their fingers, understandable, but in no way necessary for the mixmaster dj - but more important for the scratcher.

Originally posted by Dj-Steve Ok, you pay for a vinyl record, but you pay the ISP you have to get that mp3 you want... You still have rights. And u r so *%@#$!#(%&* that you think that i proved your point! Re-read it and then come again to talk to me. I will ignore everything you say from now on in this thread because you know NOTHING about the stuff we are talking about! ![]() Peace |
hmm... It made me think about something... When I buy a record of a particular song. And, the same night, I download the MP3 for own use, is that piracy? MY guess was no, 'cuz when I bought the record, I also bought the rights on that track for myself...
