Read This! Too much bass?

I probably shouldn't be posting in this thread since I don't live in the Toronto area and didn't see Tiesto at Koolhaus, but when I saw him Live at the Area 2 tour in America there was the same problem, too much bass.

I think the reason progressive house DJ's like Sasha and Digweed are so big, even though their new cd's sound repetitive and boring to a lot of people, is because their music caters to a high-bass system. Tiesto doesn't really spin progressive, he spins laid back chillout trance (for the most part), and because of that it doesn't really thump to much on big system. Anyways that's my theory for what it's worth.

you're right. He did not play Silence. I was just way too drunk and mistook it over Urban Train cuz the percussion on Silence sound very similar to Urban Train. the brutal bass coming out of the system did not help too...made it hard for me to hear the mid hz and recognize tracks.

Heeeey wazup guys!!after a good rest Iam ready to write my reviews!!
and yes as I said before I will have 2 reviews.hehe

Review #1 (GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS )
----------
what can I say, Iam still speachless.I mean there was lots of girls, and I mean beautiful hot looking girls.I was at Kool Haus last year also, but 10X more girls this year.
now Iam will share my experiences with some girls I had last night!!
ok so I was in the middle of the dance floor when Tiesto came on, so this very hot looking girl (u can ask Time2burn he was beside me)
came in front me and she wasnt that tall, so she is like "is this Tiesto right now playing?" and Iam like ya.then she said that she cant see anything,so I was being nice and everything and Iam like "You wanna seat on my shoulders?"she is like really can I?? so finally she got on my shoulders, and there I was with this girl sexy girlon my shoulder and dancing!that was soo much fun then after while she gets off, and she starts kissing and thanking me, and telling me how nice Iam and stuff. So she said she will come back . ooh well at least I had fun!!

after few hours I noticed these other hot girls keep looking at me and smiling and stuff, but I didnt do anything, so later they came up to me, and one of them tells me "excuse us but me and my friend think that u look exactly like Jutin timberlake, can we please take some pitures with you?" at first I was like are they on crack or something??so I told them are you kidding me?? they are like no u really do, so I said fine I'll take some pictures!!so I did and we talked for abit, but soon I realized that they were with some guys!!!
I was pissed, but it was soo funny hearing that from them.I mean Iam alot bigger then Justin Timberlake I think.hehe
so I must give 10000/10 just for the sexy girls there.

Review #2

sorry if I didnt mestioned anybody else, sooooo many of you!!hehe

WOOW Kool Hous looked awsome last night, I thought Iam at trance energy or something, lazers and light were looking great, the sound was just too damn loud, the bass I mean.
Luke Fair was awsome I think, I danced my ass off during the whole set.
Tiesot did a great job last night, I loved all the songs he played, specially:
Mistral - GTR
Cojure one - tears from the moon WOOOOOW
Lange - dont think it feel it
Ralph fridge - man on mars (WOOOOW I went craazy when that came on
and for the love of god please someone tell me the name of that song he played before Conjure one, lots of piano, grat buildups, and very uplifting, PKLEASE HEEEEEELP Iam dying to hear that song again!!

the only thing about Tiesto was thathe didnt play for that long, but ooh well, he looked very tired, but still was able to keep my dancing all night.

the crowd was very friendly last night, no attitudes, but I must say at some points I thought was at Plastique or some other club at Dudebridge or something,I mean I could tell that they were there to pick up girls, because all they were doing was walking. Oh well I guess I have to learn to live with them.
I didnt think it was that packed last night, I mean I had room to dance all night, and the heat didnt bother me at all, maybe I was having too much fun, I dont know.

music 10/10
Kool Haus 9/10
TA's 1000000000000000000000/10

so that was review of Saturday night.ya I know it was long, but I really wanted to share everything with you guys!!and sorry for spelling error guys,it would take me hours to fix.hehe
see you all soon.

Posted by arek on Dec-16-2002 05:41:

to me the sound was perfectly fine when luke fair dropped the goods. nice and clear, crisp and blowing your mind into a state of departure.

tie$to's set was over powered.. I really noticed when BT Flaming June kicked in, the melody part was nice, but than the melody was lost with the constant bass.

How LOUD? Well............

One point of the night, loconet and I were up front and there was this guy next to us. Tiesto mixed in Urban Train...
beat going, rising to a DROP.... when the track DROPPED!
I heard "OH SHIT!" and smelled it, loco upfront was covering his face and gasping for air.

We came to a conclusion the guy next to us SHIT himself due to the loud bass drop.

Dood, everybody should be wearing ear plugs! Unless you wanna go deaf (like clinically I already am) you should wear at least -30 db plugs.

Next party lets meet up next time.. Take it easy.

It was nice seeing you there too, and you're welcome I'm glad you enjoyed the sets.

As for the track, all I can think of with lots of Piano is Way Out West - Mindcircus(Gabriel & Dresden remix), and I know he played it around that time, so that might be it, but you didn't mention that it had vocals so maybe its not. Well whatever the track is I hope you find out because it must have been a good track and now I'm interested in knowing what the name of the track is.

Posted by mot10n on Dec-16-2002 05:58:

sounds like all you guys had a great time. after my physics final ended at 9, i was thinking about grabbing a bus for a 2 hour ride, buy a jacked up ticket, and see the man tiesto, but i decided against it, since i still have 2 more finals left...

oh wells. i spent my whole day listening to tiesto sets non-stop, and i swear, every time flesh was played in a set, i was holding back tears. that track is the definition of vocal trance for me, and knowing it was tiesto dropping it, all the better.

man, if i could've been there for those tracks... especially urban train. DAMN. but, school is a priority for me, so what can ya do

big ups to everyone coming to en-trance v2.0, should be good can't wait to meet more TA's. friends make the party, and TA's are those friends

whats up with Stylez and Waxen? haven't seen them since Armin last winter.

Posted by SAGE2635 on Dec-16-2002 07:29:

here goes the other part of my review.

Looking back to the night I have to agree with what many of you have said. Tiesto's set was nothing special and I think it had a lot to blame on the sound system. The major essence of most tracks were drowned in the nasty bass coming out of the system. I just could not hear tracks being mixed in/out. It sounded like there wasn't a smooth flow in it. anyways that did not bother me much. I still danced my ass off seeing everyone around me having a great time.

Sound: 6/10
Setup: 10/10
Crowd: 9/10
TA Vibe - 10/10
TA Attendence - 10/10
Tiesto - 8/10
Dekoze - 8/10
Space factor - 7/10
OVERALL - 8/10

A big shoutout to all the TAs who were in attendance last night - whom I got to meet and did not meet as well.

I haven't read through all the replies yet so if ANY of you guys recognise yourselves from my descriptions, it's nothing personal.

I did not meet any of you trance addicts. As soon as we got into the Kool Haus around 11pm, I went right up to the front and claimed my spot in front of the stage on those crazy sub woofers. I talked to a few people and asked them if they were TA's, but they werent so I just chilled out with my friends. There was no way I was going to lose my spot up front. Anyway, I thought Luke Fair did a pretty good job, even though he did spin way too much progressive house and trance which sounds like shit when the bass is cranked up like that. Overall though, his mixes were excellent.

So Tiesto comes on at about 1:45am (15 minutes late) and gets a huge fucking cheer! I immediately started snapping pics because he was only about 8 feet away. To the people who say it WAS NOT PACKED, well, it certainly fucking was up front. When Tijs came on, the crowd serged forward and I was crushed into the sub woofers big time. And then you get the idiots who rush up front and ask "Man, you gotta let me in there later". Oh yeah? How about FUCK YOU! And there was this Asian chick with a guy in an orange shirt right behind me and she kept almost passing out and kept leaning on me. Fuck, she was pissing me off. Then later, this guy with his shirt off behind me kept saying "Tiesto, you are the King! We are your soldiers" every fucking two minutes for two hours. Then there was this girl off to the side on Tiesto's left who kept saying in her little girly voice "Tiesto, tiesto, tiesto!" because she wanted him to come over to her WHILE HE WAS SPINNING!! Anyway, the guy in the black shirt brought her up and she got to hug Tiesto. Lucky bitch! Fuck, what is with retarded people??!?!???!

Anyway, aside from a few stupid people and over crowding at the front, I enjoyed the night immensely. I only recognised a few tunes like Suburban Train (or was it Urban?), Flight 643 (I have a story about that), Die Another Day remix, The Prophet and I'm sure I heard Plastic Boy - Silverbath. There were tons of tunes I might know but because of the shitty sound sytem (WAY TOO MUCH FUCKING BASS), I couldn't distinguish. Anyway, Tiesto saw me and two guys to my left signalling 643 with our hands. I was doing the 3. It was backwards to him (he was seeing 346) but he smiled and dropped the track about 15 minutes later. Oh yeah, anybody see the guy who got the vinly record Tiesto threw down? I had my finger on it for a second but it was just too far to my left and someone else got it. I also yelled out "YOU ARE GOD" when it got quiet and he gave me the biggest smile....what a nice feeling. My friend and I kept yelling out "DO MAGIK 8" and he just smiled and mouthed "maybe"! I was under the impression he was going to spin until 6am or close but around 5:10 after the Prophet, he took off his headphones and just stopped rather suddenly. Then he came over to the front and signed some guy's headphones, shook all our hands including mine and my buddy's, threw his Stantons into the crowd and just.....left. I thought he was going to stay awhile longer, considering all the signs that were there made by people and the cheers for him. He loved that big TUNE sign though didn't he? Then that black guy came on, and I was like "Ok, Tiesto's gone. Let's go home."

About that screwup...the guy to my left said it was a sampler, not a cd player. I was too far to Tiesto's left to see what he was using when he screwed up, which was on his right. But I did see him mouth the words "SHIT" and "FUCK" quite clearly. He was pissed off big time but I yelled out "WE STILL LOVE YOU TIESTO!" I don't care if you screws up....the KH's equipment is shitty. Why do so many of you guys care if he screwed up? Armin screwed up during the Labour of Love (double bass very noticeable) and nobody cared. I sure didn't.

Anyway, it was a great night and I'll be seeing Tiesto again for sure. I don't want to see him at the Guvernment though, because I have a feeling he doesn't really like Toronto. Again, he just LEFT after 3 minutes.

So, my night overall - 9/10, one point being deducted beacuse of the assholes behind me.

I was wearing a blue plaid Tommy shirt and dark blue jeans, with short hair and glasses on and I was RIGHT AT THE FRONT. My ribs are still hurting from being crushed agains those sub woofers. I got home at 1 30pm and went to sleep right away. Just woke up at 230 am. Nice.

And TorontoTrance For you to say "Tiesto was CRAP" Like is that necessary??? Get a life... and to think a magazine is taking your review and people are going to read that makes me sick! They should check out the other hundred AMAZING reviews he got. Trust me there were things about the night that I would say were not perfect. But to be so harsh is stupid. Theres no need for negativity. Sure point out the things that you think could have been better. But to overdramatize things like that, is like me saying "THIS PARTY WAS THE BEST PARTY IN THE WORLD MAN!!! I'VE NEVER HEARD A SICKER SET THAN WHAT TIESTO THE D.J. GOD THREW DOWN LAST NIGHT" It would probably bother just as much if someone tried to say that. Cause like the ignorant comments that some people like to make around here IT'S JUST NOT TRUE!!!

WHere were you chillin cause That song really stuck out! He really turned it up loud! Hey does anyone know the remix of LUSTRAL - BROKEN that Luke Fair played that was one CRAZY progressive beat. BTW I think people would have gone a little more crazy for The Prophet if Oakenfold didn't play it back in the summer.

Well, I didn't really have a choice in the matter. If I wouldn't have left with my girlfriend, the bouncers would have sent her to the hospital. I guess thats what happens when you go to puke and pass out on the toilet seat.
Plus for my trouble of helping her out of the club what did I get? Puked on. F#$%in fantastic.
Note to self: Lots of Rev for my gf = bad.

I did have a blast because Luke Fair definitely owned me. I'm upset that I missed Cowgirl (Bedrock Remix) cuz I've always wanted to hear that on a big system. Oh well, maybe next time.

Well, I have to get to work now. Talk to ya'll laters.

P.S. Lynx, we never got introduced mate... Boo on that one. Maybe next time I come up to Toronto.
