This is me posting

All the regulers here seem to cover all the bases when it comes to discussions. One comparison between Ferry and Johan from friday, Johan did a lot more "tricks" on the decks and put more improvisation into his set. Ferry just did a fairly straight mixed set (totally amazing of course).

Ultra spin... and a good night it was.

Got in after 12, so hardly heard Addy spin. Instead, I caught Bt's set, which was alright at times. Some of what he was playing was cool. Can't give a rating on his set due to the fact that i don't know any of the technical aspects that go into what he was doing.

James Holden... This guy looks like he's 16 yrs old!!! I'm not much of a fan of progressive, but i really liked his set for what it was. Kinda dark and trancy. Not sure, but did he train wreck at one point?? Either way i'm not gonna shit on him for one technical mishap. Closer to the end of Holden's set i went to the Guv side for about 10 mins, and Oliver was spinning a super hard Trance set... pretty bangin', would've stayed there, but Holden's not here everyweek, so i left back to KH. Overall he spun a great set for his style of beats. 8/10.
Holden played:
16B - The Game (Marcello Castelli Tribal Deep Remix)
Kirsty Hawkshaw - Fine Day (James Holden Remix)
Slam feat. Dot Allison - Visions (Vitalic Remix)
Dot Allison - We're Only Science (Slam mix)
Leama - Requiem For A Dream (Leama's Dream Mix)
Altitude - Marrakech [i think Holden played it, but it might have been Bt that played it, but it was played by one of them]
James Holden - Nothing

Now, Corsten was late, but that's ok... cause he played an amazing set. I thought he would've played alot more anthems then he did, but he managed to not over do it. His mixing was perfectly on point, and had a wicked track selection that had me moving!!! This is one of those set's that i wish was possible to get my hands on, as it was probably better then most mixes he has available for d/l at this moment. 8/10
Corsten played:
Hydra - Affinity (remix?)
3 Fingers - Frozen February (Flake mix)
Oliver Lieb pres. Smoked - Metropolis (Eric Prydz Munich Nrg mix) ...<==== [sounds similar to Sharpside - Spacecruising]
Solid Globe - North Pole
Kansai - Rococco (original)
Sonorous - Protonic (original)
Gouryella - Tenshi
4x4 - Indigo (this song is taking forever to be released!!!!)
System F - Solstice
Three Drives - Air Traffic
Gouryella - Ligaya
Ferry Corsten - Punk (ok... i like Corsten and all, but c'mon already enough with "Punk" now!! lol)
Eon - Pocket Damage
Pepper Sweeney - H4u
Gouryella - Tenshi
System F - Needlejuice
Corderoy - Sweetest Dreams
Aly & Fila - Eye of Horus
Push - Strange World (remix)
System F - Cry
System F - Out of the Blue
Kid Vicious - Proceed
Above & Beyond - Far From in Love

I give this party a 8/10... vibe was great and set up was nice, but i've had better times.

Bullshit Security of the night: tossing some guy, wearing nothing but a light shirt, pants and shoes, out of the back doors of the club into -15 degree weather... at least get the guys coat... he could catch hypothermia in minutes... a lawsuit just waiting to happen.

now for the shouts:

Ok I am now recovered from the weekend (after taking the afternoon off work today).

After no sleep on Saturday (after Johan) I went downtown to the meet-up at the flatiron and firkin (was only there like 10 minutes). There was a damn blizard so the drive down the 404 was -way- fun, lots of cars in the ditch, etc.

Then to top it all off, I dent and take the finish off my damn wheels on my car (thanks NinjaPimp for the pics of the pothole).

So off to Corsten at 10pm, line-up is no problem, coat-check no problem - and the club isn't packed.

Abby was good, BT's set was great for the last 30 minutes, and Holden was very mello until the end.

Ferry rocked the joint and was awesome! By 7:30 I could barely stand and the last song I heard was solar stone 7 cities (i think) - then i left. Ferry is friggin AMAZING!

Good to see everybody, good to meet the people I didn't meet before and I look forward to seeing everybody at Mauro!

Sorry this is short, but duty calls....

hahah..cool cool..

well if u think about it, on tiesto.com, its not split regionally and 98% of the posters in this thread went for the event and think similarly, so there isnt really much difference in what their impression was than with urs or mine...(jsut analysing a situation..my 2 cents)

anyway..

once again

HEIL HOLDEN

Posted by <tuss> on Mar-11-2003 04:17:

well fuck what can i say, that was the best damn birthday party i've ever had!! met a few TA's there, dudes from michigan were cool. yeah im the dude with the goatee from calgary, and i like smoking my weed in the kool haus when holden and ferry are playing, lol. im not good with names but hello again to all of you that i met.

i missed most of BT cuz of the most retarded coat check ever, long story, then the bartender girl had to have been the BIGGEST bitch i have ever met. she was so rude i poured my drink all over her bar after she made it for me and told her she could fuck off, needless to say i found a nice bartender who appreciated that it was my b-day and that we were going to be spending crazy amounts of $$ on drinks. so BT got cut, but holden came on right after last call, and fuck, awesome, what a wicked guy, he actually shows some enthusiasm while playing his set, and his tunes exactly what i was expecting to hear, met him too, funny guy, sure likes to talk.

ferry , well, yeah, he was spot on, danced to his set start to finish, tune after tune, that's why i love trance.

cant wait to come back, hope ultra spin becomes a monthly thing or something, cuz calgary is kina lame for big ass pound you down to the ground with my sounds clubs.

cheers.

Personally the best parties I have been to have featured Corsten, and this time around was no exception. This man was absolutely off the charts. Words can't describe the bliss I experience at this party. His music was phenomenal and enticingly energetic. He took me to another world! Mark Oliver was also great as he was tearing it up at the Guv.!! I left soon after BT came on, it seemed like Addy, BT, and the last 30 minutes of Holden's set which is all I saw, were very disinclined and lethargic. That's my opinion anyways, as I am not the biggest fan of Prog. The TA turn out was incredible, TAs were all around, which was a real treat. Shouts out going out to all of you who made it out, and I am glad to have had the opportunity to meet a few of you for the first time.

P.S I'm still recovering and trying to assimilate this experience into my everyday reality.

If spin became a monthly thing, I'll probably be there all the time Detroit is lame as hell when it comes to clubs too, we need shit like the guv and kh. we're gonna have pvd coming to a club here next month, its about the size of a small lounge or one of the small rooms in the guv complex TO KNOWS HOW TO PARTY!

Posted by Trigger on Mar-11-2003 19:07:

Had an ok time I suppose. As good a time as you can have at that place. If it wasn't for Ferry spinning that night, I would not have come out. Just so tired of the Guvt, their inability to properly execute an organized setup of a night and their security. Really now guys get your shit together...its been far too long running this so called complex and not being able to figure out how to move people through the place. It was absolutely ridiculous how security could not decide if they wanted people moving from Guvt to KH via the outside tent or through the Orange Room. Everytime I went one way, they told us to go the other way. Then they started holding people up even though there was plenty of room in the KH. Their staff is so out of sync that its not even funny. Why not just leave it up to people which way they want to go? Leave both options open that way the flow of traffic is divided - not that it was really that bad, it was only because security was interfeering and trying to 'regulate' it that things got stupid.

Made it in for the tail end of BT's set which I was really impressed with. Not really knowing what to expect, I was glad to hear some nice hard, funky type beats in there which seemed to have the dance floor going pretty good.

Not a big fan of progressive but enjoyed Holden's set as he threw some nice trance in there and had a few good hard beat type tracks.

Enjoyed Ferry's set tremendously and glad he went long until they asked him to close up. Amazingly down to earth guy, having no problem signing the tons of stuff people were handing him, taking pictures and talking with everyone. Holden was also good in this area and good to see him hanging out for Ferry's set and even helping tweak the shit audio system. As good as their sets were I have to say I was not impressed with the audio or visual setup.

Compared to when Goldclub sponsers the events, this was absolute shit. Considering the quality events these guys usually play, it really must have been a step down for them. Like really, what was with those stupid squares hanging from the ceiling near the entrance doors? They cut off all the light if you were sitting up in the couch area and blocked the view of the stage. Absolutely stupid. The lighting was pure crap - never seen it so dark in KH before. The stage setup was pure ass with those lame visuals they were throwing up there. What was up with that? There wasn't even anyone working the visuals...just a projector sitting there. No effort at all put into this. I can see now why they were only charging $15 - aside from the DJs, they had no overhead costs!

So to sum it up, I give:

music: 9/10
audio/visual setup: 2/10
club organization: 1/10

Really if it wasn't for the music, we would have taken off an hour into the night! Shouts to tatgirl - nice meeting you.

I was there... but only went into Kool Haus after 3... I thought I saw Aggie far off but then didn't see her again.

....this party was good but the majority of the crowd had NO WHERE near the vibe/energy that was present at Ferry's first time @ Guv - or at Johan the night before for that matter.

As usual, its the TAs that keep the party going

some lady at the door that searched me was mumbling some voodo curse or some shit to me,it was a weird experience and im sorry but crack and molestation doesnt go over well with me.Is it just me and my girlfriend or is the Kool haus and Guv like Cristmas shopping when you first arrive(early)?its so hectic!

hahahaha yea must be so much worse for you.. its not just the clubs that suck its cause theres no TA group to party with! We got the djs coming, we just dont got the people. I like to party with people who enjoy the music as much as I do, and the only ones who can are the TAs. Gotta let me know next time you go to Toronto to party, the TA group at ultraspin was the best Ive ever partied with!!

Oliver is a music man. He's not in it to be a showman. He'd rather concentrate on providing the wicked beats and let the crowd take over. Personally I think this shows a lot of personality. I respect DJs more when they concentrate on their craft and are able to make the crowd get hype with their music instead of resorting to prancing around like idiots. But that's just my opinion
