Sometime next year Bell will be going 4G.........Pretty much what you see in bond movies will be possible for average cell user.

I can confirm (from a very deep source) Roger's will be having 4G LTE before both Telus & Bell.

Proof you may ask, already they have 3.5G running from coast to coast, so you know their way a head of the rest

What, the fact that every single person within a 200km radius of Moscow has at least 14 types of terminal cancer isn't enough for you, and you want them to run speedtest.net?

How insensitive of you.

Now on a serious note... My mom's friend's son is conning my mom into getting a TELUS phone and plan that's WAY beyond her means.

She currently has the Talk $20/200 PCS plan, which she currently pays for $20 (less service charges) for 200min anytime minutes and voicemail, and she's long past her contract so month by month now. Her average monthly bill is around $30 (inc taxes, 911 and system access fee). She never ever went past 200 minutes a month in the last 5 years talk time, and never had or needed an evening or weekend plan either. The phone is for on the road convenience only.

So this guy talks into a blackberry pearl on a 3 year plan, a "Your Choice 25" plan (with free eve and weekends selected), and a "Bundle 20" to have call display.

My mom doesn't even know how to text, and checks her email on her computer. She's old FFS.

Now, she doesn't want to dammage any relationship she has with her friend, and is sort of committed to improving her plan with the shady son.

After a long heated talk with my mom, and finally broker it down that her bill will got from $30-35 a month to $70, with a possiblility of going over the crappy new 150 minutes vs the 200 she has now.

All she needs is caller-id. Honestly.

Anyone know how much is to add caller-ID only to her plan. Her phone is fine.

And if she feels like she has to sign up with a plan for a free phone she doesn't need, what's the cheapest for a simple phone, 200 min, caller-id and vmail?

damn thats a shitty situation. heres what i would do...
1) let her sign up so she doesnt hurt anyones feelings, as shes already agreed to do this...

2) the next day call telus for her and explain the situation, they'll change the plan to something more appropriate and i see no reason why called ID wouldnt be added on for free

I believe telus also has a $17.50 voice plan, similar to the rogers/fido one, that should suffice. Good luck.

It's an original Compaq Portable (link to wiki) . The first portable PC-compatible computer. I got it from a neighbour about 5 years ago, while I was still working at Compaq before the merger. He thought I might like it before City Hall cleaned up the shit in the basement. I have lots of games, old DOS and tools on floppy still and it still works perfectly.

My friend just did a HUP with Telus, dude has been with them from day 1. He got the LG Dare & they tossed him unlimited web browsing & 250 txt for 3 yrs for free.

A true sign of Telus hurting & need to lock their customers down.

Anyone else here who has Telus, pull a threat & call their rentention to take advantage of this.

your just assuming that, you havent seen their numbers and they speak the truth not just because you think they are asking people to sign in for a contract means jack. rogers also subsidise their phones on contracts. They arent forcing customers to lock in everyone does so by their free will. Try that churn threat BS it doesnt work until your a good segmentation. otherwise they dont care they'll let you churn to another carrier. I mean if i ran a buisness if i had a person on the lowest option e.g 20$, i wouldnt give him free anything. it wouldnt make good buisness sense.

Just because they are giving away free features doesnt mean anything either its a sign of winning in the marketplace. And feature cost cell carriers really nothing as in ZERO! So next time you go assuming numbers do some research not everyone is on the GSM/HSPA bandwagon just because your using it.

Your deep source is wrong, because telus are already being training on the rollout on 4G/LTE as early as may 2009. and honestly rogers footprint looks like a bug compared to a combined telus/bell coverage in canada. 3.5 G doesnt mean squat since most people cant even tell the difference. its the $ G's that make the difference.

oh 3G GSM lol been there since 2006 on CDMA wake up GSM to and smell the 2006 on EVDO.

Just because its Christmas doesnt mean that the mobile phone industry is safe from leaks. HoFo user clearskies08 has posted pictures which are purported to be from an internal Rogers and Fido flagship presentation. They reveal all of the flagship smartphones that the two carriers plan to release in 2009. Virtually every single phone in the line-up has been written about before in one way or another so well spare you their specs, but rest assured, if even one quarter of the phones in the presentation end up hitting store shelves, 2009 is looking to be a hell of a year for Rogers and its dog. Hit the jump for a complete list of handsets along with images from the presentation.

Blackberry 82XX Pearl Flip (3G version of 8220 Pearl Flip but with GPS, WiFi, and video calling)
Blackberry 9520 Storm (North American 3G GSM bands and 802.11 b/g WiFi)
HTC Touch 3G
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Touch Viva
Motorola MOTOZINE ZN5
Motorola Q11
Motorola VE66
Nokia N79
Nokia N85
Nokia N96
Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
Samsung M8800 Pixon
Sony Ericsson Xperia X1a
