The Gerries lost a step in the 2nd extra time and I feel sorry for them because they played well unexpectedly all tournament. Plus they are one of the more honest teams lately without all the theatrics and swan diving. But Italy (who were still up to their diving ways) were very impressive today when they weren't rolling around like they'd been shot. I still think France is the team to beat.

I wonder how France is still the team to beat, when Germany was, they are out, Brazil always is, and they are out.

At this point, Italy is the team to beat.

This falicy that Italy is a team of divers, is tiresome considering the world cup is a place of half fans and bandwagon jumpers....Italy outplayed Germany, in their home court.

what game were you watching? Italians are some of the most skilled players but they constantly go down at the most minimal contact. Fucking Totti is the worst! Nothing they did today was as bad as the disgusting display against Australia and they did outplay the Germans in the last half of the game certainly. Brazil was the (perennial) favourite and France knocked them out in a dominating display of skill. France have just got better and better with each game and I think they can win it. Italy does not have a Zidane, even if he is 34 years old.

lol, come on man. He's easily one of the greatest playeres of this era, even in his mid 30s. He knows this is his last chance at glory for Les Bleus. But he is 34 and I wouldn't be surprised if he is somehwat slower given the lessened timespan between QF to Semi and Semi to Final.

a)The game today, and all the other ones.

b)Totti is a whiner and he is washed up, but always has potential

c)I find it funny that it is important to note that Italy doesn't have Zidane, when it does have Toni, Zambrotta, Buffon, Del Peiro and Cannavaro. The beauty of their victories have been based upon the fact of the cohesive nature of their play. 8 players have now scored...

Dont get me wrong, I think Zidane is in a class well beyond most players...but it will take far more than that to win at this point.

yes yes you're quite right. I'm only stating my opinion that France has looked very impressive the last two games plus I'm pulling for them. But Zidane led his country to a World Cup and a Euro (the latter over many of the same Italians who made the Final today) and that counts for something. An Italy-France final will be very good but it's not assured yet.

Congratulazioni ai ventilatori dell'Itali!!!

I thought it was a very entertaining game throughout! A couple dives from both sides here and there, but I thought the ref called a fair game.

Germany seemed content for Penalty Kicks, but I think Italy obvioulsy did not! . They really "brought it" in the last 5mins of Extra time and deserved the Win.

Althought I thought Germany played solid most of the match, they looked flat at times, and their rushes lacked the potency of previous matches. Italy's counter-attacks where frightening at times. lol

Good Luck in the Final!!!

That was in extra time...Italy played extremely well the first 30 minutes and then they seemed REALLY tired and drained...my bet is they were hoping for a quick goal and then to sit on the lead...that didn't happen...from then on it was all Germany with some counters from Italy here and there...they brought it on in extra time again...but mostly with counter attacks...

i love how everyone calls the italians divers....whatever
evry team has divers.....ballacks dive against argentina was so fuckin pathetic that i cant see how the german fans can go on about the italians

the germans always played physical, its not new, and they do get carded.

but dirty is not the good word to use.

dirty is when you dive and fake injury.

when you touch the ball in the box hoping that the ref would not see it.

Fifa's fair play.

that Sucker punch @ the end of the Argentina match didn't count as dirty then?!

lol!

Easily, Italians dive when the wind shifts. Italians dive when the sun is shining too brightly. Italians dive when....well you get the point.

italians win.......see you in 4 years WOOT!

The substitution for Del Piero was brilliant. He provided a necessary energy spurt.

Overall, a classic match. Clean, with skills on full display. Italy really put on a clinic "out-Braziling" even Brazil with their skill.

Congrats Italy AND Germany for a great game.

sure, sure i don't think we saw the same game.

some many dives, and fake injuries and BORING game from both side i must admit, italians playing too much defensive neutralizing the german attacks...

I'll agree with the dives, I saw a few but nowhere near as bad as I've come to expect from an Italian team. They were probably as bad as any other team in the tournament in this game. In terms of playing too much defensive, I'll have to disagree. I've always fallen asleep watching Italians play but today was totally different. They went out to get it. Having a great defence (Cannavaro was great) that was able to neutralized the German offence does not mean they played too much defensive and this is reflected by the spot on attacking substitutions made towards the end. Far from boring. Not to mention the stats speak for themselves:

Germany (GER) Statistics Italy (ITA)
13 Shots 15
2 Shots on Goal 10
21 Fouls 19
4 Corner Kicks 12
1 Free Kicks (shots on goal) 1
0 Penalty Kicks 0
2 Offsides 11
0 Own Goals 0
2 Cautions 1
0 Expulsions 0
43% Ball Possession 57%
30 Actual Playing Time 40

totti was kept in solely because there was a big chance that this game was going to penalties and as bad a world cup as totti has, his experience in handling pressure is a class above the rest as he showed against australia.

And shame on all those who keep going on about italians being divers. Have you seen that dipshit ballack in the last couple of games. He knows hes underperforming and is trying to contribute by clutching his face everytime someone steps on his foot (figure of speech). Even Henry - the last guy, id expect to dive did so and in the process scrwed spain over in the form of a second goal from a resulting free kick.

And besides those 2, this tournament has seen diving of some sorts by every team. Given the yellow cards that the referees have been dishing out, players have decided to take advantage of that situation by playacting which as much as I condone, I have to admit its a talent given that it can backfire against you in the form of a yellow card if the referee thinks you dived.

Diving was one of the issues that fifa has asked referees to clamp down on before the start of the world cup but at the same time told them to show no tolerance for tackles from behind, elbows and shirt pulling which is a stupid move because the players can exploit that by falling at the minimal contact to their face etc and the referees, more often than not will card the opposition and not the diver. Unless FIFA decides to punish divers by studying match videos after the game, this practice is not going to stop so bitching about it is not going to help.

At the same time, i think they employ blind referees for portugal games

I Don agree

Toni was playing like shit, HE couldn't even run. But on the other hand TOtti was making some nice passes and crosses in the midfield.
His game might not be as good as it used to be, but let's not forget that he just gut off a bad injury which made him not practice for 2 month.

this is ridiculous... every match that I've cheered on one team, they loose!

my 2 picks were germany + argentina... but now they're both out

i guess it comes down to... GO FRANCE GO!!
