david wright and yusmeiro petit were two mets selected for the futures game. ive mentioned a lot before on what wright's been doing, but petit is quickly becoming our best pitching prospect. he's been compared to sid fernandez. he's still only in A ball, but look at the numbers. 9-1 through 14 starts with a 2.10 ERA. he has 112 strikeouts in 77 innings while walking 21. now thats ridiculous.

he will be amazing, after he is traded from being a met. Then the mets will get him back and he'll suck.

well, if you really think about it, the mets havent really been burned THAT many times. yeah, most of the time the guy we get sucks, but the prospects never pan out either. dotel and izzy are closers. paul wilson is finally good at age 34. where the hell is billy traber? and the mets have a new gm now that doesnt do trades only for the backpages. he's already said that unless the cubs offer us mark prior, david wright isnt going anywhere. so thats a move in the right direction. GUARANTEED that if steve phillips was still the gm, we'd have beltran and no david wright or jason phillips.

so. freddy garcia is a now a member of the white sox. the m's got miguel olivo, who's a young major league catcher (.270, 7 homers, 26 rbi), jeremy reed, who is a top prospect with a career .334 avg in the minors. and michael morse, im not really sure about. but the sox gave up ALOT to get freddy. which means that the prices of all other pitchers on the market this year will go up. i hope the mets just wait and go after carl pavano or matt clement in the off season rather than trade for a mediocre pitcher.

this trade killed me. im not high on garcia and to give up olivo and reed was just stupid. i just hope we do something this year because we have nothing to look forward to after this year...losing mags, garcia's contract is up. its going to be tough.

RED SOX ARE GONNA SWEEP THE YANKEES IN THE BRONX BOOOIIIIIIII...

yeah. these are the types of moves the mets have made in the past. thank the lord they have a new gm who seems to know what to do with this team. by now phillips for sure would've traded reyes for soriano. david wright and jason phillips for carlos beltran. and probably another trade of our top prospects for freddy garcia. he just loved to steal the back back from the yankees. which he rarely did anyway.

Go Braves Go! Oh, wait a minute - this is a NY thread ...

hehe, I love you New Yorkers for bringing me disco, so I have to say go Disco Bombers! Bronx Bombers, that is ... no offense to all you Mets fans, too bad Braves and Mets had to be in the same division ...

From Mets standpoint, I like Red Sox very much, so if they'll do better than Yanks this season, then that will be better. Wait a minute, maybe Devil Rays will win the division?!!

tampas been playing some good ball lately but i dont see them keeping this up for the rest of the year. boston and ny dominate this division right now. i think next year the devil rays will put a lot of pressure on those teams. but how about baltimore? they spend all that money on tejada and lopez and they are only going to finish fourth in the division.

dont forget palmeiro. but they have SHIT pitching. they'd be decent with some good pitching.

Looks like this turned out to be true. I can't belive that the Yanks swept Boston ad then got swept by those MUTS in Shea.

Seriously, the Mets deserved the wins. They outplayed the Yanks hands down.

i know and i'm happy for that... at least they were close games except for the first one.

good baseball week... i was at yankee stadium on wednesdasy to experience the yankees/red sox rivalry for the first time (with the bleacher creatures to boot!)

That must of been some experience!

my brother was at the mets-yanks game on saturday. i was so pissed. he got to see the greatest regular season game between these two teams.

and... what the hell is up with hidalgo!!!! he is a beast! sal... and you were upset because we traded david 'stormy' weathers. HAHAHA! he's been nothing short of the MVP of this team since joining. plus, we have all these wins and jose reyes still isnt hitting. we swept the yanks and piazza did basically nothing all series. "i can see clearly now the rain is gone..." all we need is one more steve trachsel-esque starter and we'll be set. for this year at least.

Posted by Shamez214 on Jul-06-2004 21:00:

so... gagne is mortal. 84 straight saves and he finally blows one. he's still the best closer in baseball in my book.

it was my 2nd time there. first time i was there was in year 2000 for a mets/yankees game... the one where piazza rocked clemens in the mets' rout of the yankees. i give props to the boston fans who sit in the bleachers because they have thick skin to take the constant verbal abuse from yankees fans. watching roll call was pretty fun i'll admit, and so was the bleacher creatures' variation on YMCA... maybe because it was a wednesday game and not a friday one, people were a bit calmer or subdued, or maybe i'm just older, but i had more fun during boston/yanks series than i did with mets/yanks. definitely an experience in the right field bleachers.

Posted by Highmay on Jul-06-2004 21:04:

let's see gagne in the world series and be successful...then we'l talk about best closer in baseball...for now and for the seeable future, it's Mariano...

ok so i guess change of scenery helped hidalgo... now if they can only get rid of old man franco. i DID not need to see top 9, bases empty 0-2 count with 2 outs become a bases loaded situation, 3-0 count on jorge posada.
