And your posterior delts get a HELL of a workout from rowing motions for the back. Take note of that.

i havent read all of the posts on this thread but,

what's your incentive for going to the gym so religiously? i mean why do you want this better bod for? chics? self confidence? part of a job? etc...

i think i do it for myself first, i just can't stand to look a certain way. but of course the looking good for your girlfriend part of it is important to me. i think they are both definitely connected for me. and the confidence thing too...i've actually always had pretty low confidence, but it helps when you look the way you want...what about you?

ahh true true, strange though cause id think that if you were already in a relationship there wouldnt be a need to impress, know what i mean cause you're already taken.

i guess it's also confidence and i just cant stand the jiggling. just makes me feel better and i like being able to run and stretch and move without feeling like there's a bulk weighing me down.

oh also love playing soccer

well...as far as the girlfriend thing...nothing wrong with wanting to STAY in shape for that person hehehe. definitely past the impress part, but you still want to know they think you're sexy

i need to work on STRETCHING. i'm NOT flexible. well i'm not that bad, but i really need to limber up. its something i've always wanted to do, but really don't put enough energy into. give me stretching techniques/tips.

Posted by Radagast on May-19-2004 16:46:

I go to the gym because pumping up makes me feel better than anything else. And I like the way I look after years of hard work. The gym environment gives me more energy than when I stay home and use my limited weight set despite my mental condition.

Posted by Orbax on May-19-2004 16:50:

It started for me because I was a skinny loser who got into lots of fights and I wanted people to notice me, and be able to defend myself better. I went from 140 lbs to 170, which is where ive been stuck for a bit hehe.

Now i realize im a stronger loser. Still no more friends or girlfriends. But im addicted to the feeling. And its one of the few things in life I get to watch my effort change. So its fun and feels good and has allowed me to do more in my physical activities.

ahh true true, it's good when yer boy has super toned arms and he's on top. scrumptious.

owww big problem you NEED to be flexible, major problem for most guys though. well what can i say, bend and reach your toes? hah best bet is to pick up a pilates for beginners book/video.
1. spread yer legs and bend to the floor so that both your elbows are touching the center ground.
2. lay on your back and form a bridge with your stomach facing upwards.
3. lay face down and only lift up your torso (stomach and up?) your back should stretch like no other
4. lay stomach up and one leg at a time, pull it towards your body all the way and then in that position bend your foot forward and backwards
5. do the butterfly sit on teh floor and bend your knees outwards so that both soles of the feet touch each other and then bend forward

actually i have the pilates dvd's hehehe...i stole it from my girlfriend , but i kinda find myself having trouble because i don't have the flexibility already. i just get really frustrated with it and quit...i should just try harder...

well...i borrowed it, but i've had it for a couple months hehe. never tried aerobics...i don't really care if its un-masculine as long as it works, i can handle that. so aerobics would help flexibility?

Here are some stretches that you could do before and after working out, spending a minimum of 1 minute on each exercise:

Side Bends
Forward Bends
Hamstring Stretches
Lunges (the stretching kind, not the quad working kind)
Feet apart seated forward bends
Inner thigh stretches
Quadriceps stretches
Hurdlers stretches
Spinal twists
Hanging stretches

You should be able to figure out how to do these by searching on google. Yes I got it from the book. But noone else was helping out. I don't recommend anything that I wouldn't do myself.

I once got the urge to be able to do the splits and tried for like 40 minutes. I made decent progress but it hurt like hell and I was sore the next day. Apparently its supposed to take a week! Screw that.

i don't know body fat, but i'm pretty lean...i've been as heavy as 218 so i've trimmed down.

if you believe me great, if not i don't really care. my only reason for posting in this thread is to help those that might benefit from my knowledge gained over the last 10 years. you shouldn't get all bent out of shape because i recognize the fact that you are in denial about your 7lbs of weight being partially fat. see that 20+ lbs i lost...that's right it was fat. even professional bodybuilders put on fat when they aren't getting ready for competitions. you really shouldn't be so naive. stupid claims like "i put on 7lbs of PURE MUSCLE" is only going to show the rest of us the extent of your knowledge or lack there of.

i wasn't getting bent up over your comments, just wondering how successful your methds were.

and i wasn't the 1 who said "i put on 7lbs of PURE MUSCLE", your confusing me with some one else

Good exercise. Can either work your chest or tri's, depending on how you do them, but definitely some of both no matter how you do them. They also hit your abdominals because you're using them to stabilize your back.

apparently not too great as they only work on the muscle for a small portion of the movement

Posted by Orbax on May-19-2004 20:41:

shwarz said it mainly was used for expanding the rib cage, just wondered what you guys actually liked about it hehe

Posted by Floorfiller on May-19-2004 20:44:

i like pullovers, but on a machine. at my gym they have a pullover machine and it really hits the muscles good. it can also help with your lats on the machine...thats for sure...i bet if you did it on a cable rig they would work good too...

use a barbell for that to build pecs

Posted by UWM on May-19-2004 20:48:

Kind of like skull crushers that one is - skull crushers kick ass, just make sure you have a spotter. They fucking work your tris like no other.

I sorta skimmed through this thread so pardon me if I'm repeating anything, but for those of you asking what the fastest way to put on muscle mass without roids: hit the squats hard. When your core grows, the rest of you wants to grow with it (I've had the science behind this explained to me, but I really can't remember the details =P).
