Here's a good riddle.

There are 2 men who work at a gas station. They have a game where they guess who pulled up to the pump on the wrong side of their take filler. They have cameras on each stall as to look at the rear of the car in the stall. They cannot see the filler for the tank, they only find out who is correct when the customer gets out and either moves to a different pump or tries to fill as is. Bob is right 99% of the time, yet Jim is right only about 13 percent of the time. How is Bob so good at this?

haha, no but thats a good guess. the guy being dumb really has nothing to do with the answer.

he gave the attendant 4 quarters which meant that he purposely gave him a dollar which is enough to get 2 tokens. most people read the question and think that the dollar refers to a paper dollar. so anyways, if he only wanted one token he would have given him 2 quarters but he gave him 4 instead.

Don't worry Resnick, that solution will not work

The furthest the corner piece can extend is like this:

At a 45 degree angle. The midpoint is clearly .45 meters away from the corner, at a 45 deg angle, but the distance from the outer corner to your piece of land is sqrt(2)=1.414... meters. 1.414-.45 > .9, so it's impossible

Easy to fix though: .5n + n >= sqrt(2) will suffice for a piece. So n=2*sqrt(2)/3 is long enough... use .95 and your riddle works

just pulled this off the web...looking at the solution its pretty fucking hard...


Got this at an MS interview for the first time, answered it in 30 seconds . For 1<=n<=5, take n beads from bag n. The sum should be 10*n(n-1)/2, but will be short by (10-9)*n = n kilograms.

In general, the only necessary condition is that the number of bags must not exceed the number of items in the bag.
