very good point to bring up. it's about the "right" more than
the numbers, and if their not there, they might not not be there,
cause one of the reasons for not getting a job like that, is the
bar smoke.

Joyce Frustaglio chairwoman of the "no Smoking Committee" in York Region. She wont rest until smoking is banned in ALL public places including outside.

Or how about Dr Barbara Yaffe?

Read this little tidbit from the Toronto Health Department itself!!

http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/healt...ovince_wide.pdf

This is EXACTLY what makes me upset. In all things, you give these zealots a little and they keep hammering for even more unreasonable requests.

PS read the name of the Media Relations Person for the city "Margaret Crapper"

Thats exactly where i think this proposal belongs!!!

Again, please tell me why these anti smoking crusaders have a problem with Designated smoking rooms (DSR) unless of course their REAL objective isnt convenience for themselves but rather social engineering

The document makes total sense.
Why would simplifying a confusing process be considered radical behavior?
Guns were allowed in Saloons at one point in time too...

The document does not make sense. Allow people to have a DSR if they can afford it or want it. If they cant, tough titties...

So now you are telling me people here want to ban DSRs when they never even have to go near them or ever breathe a hint of smoke???

COME ON!!! Get of your high horses..

DSRs were never meant as a permanent solution...

That's what all the documentations on this P-H-A-S-I-N-G process says...

There should be absolutely no surprise here...it was all documented quite clearly...

Oh yea....here are the 'zealots' btw...
Taken from a City of Toronto agenda meeting in >>>1999<<<

quote:

As the scientific evidence on ETS (ENVIRONMENTAL TOBACCO SMOKE) has increased so has public awareness of its dangers. More than 90 per cent of Toronto residents now believe ETS harms health (Smaller World Communications, 1998, Appendix VIII), and one third of all Ontario residents avoid certain bars and restaurants because they are too smoky (OTRU, 1997/1998). Given that non-smokers are protected from ETS at work and in many public places, there is public demand for smoke-free places, including restaurants and entertainment facilities, such as bowling centres, casinos, billiard and bingo halls and bars. It should be noted that the provision of separate but unenclosed spaces for smoking in public places is not health protective to non-smokers, or to employees, since ETS travels freely through the air. Full protection is achieved only in a smoke-free environment, or where there is a fully enclosed and separately ventilated DSR.

This is exactly why im asking what the problem is with a DSR. In a country where smoking is legal. This is the best comprimise.

Saying that its meant as a temporary solution completely skirts my original question which i will repeat.

If DSRs mean smokers can smoke without "harming" non smokers, why the opposition to it????

Actually I found it kind of funny walking into a Tim Hortons once with a DSR.
It's like...hey kids, lets go to the donut zoo and watch the pale-skinned, yellow-fingered smokers dying in their own personal fumigator...

bahahahahah yeah that would be funny...

But hey thats their choice i guess..

I personally find smoking gross and im glad i never started. However, i support smokers rights. Its the same as supporting gay rights and not being gay i suppose. (no comments from the peanut gallery please.... er no that didnt sound right either... um..... NEVER MIND )
