justify my beliefs? lol that was my whole point...i can't really. the believers are at a disadvantage in this discussion because it's all based on faith (see my definition). i can believe in whatever i want to, and for whatever reason. i just happened to be raised in an irish catholic family and so i was brought up to have God in my life. i'm not a diehard catholic though...in fact i'm pretty ashamed of the catholic church...but that's a whole other story.

i'm just spiritual now...but i do sin every day...i still pray though and try my hardest to do the right thing. i may not have had that choice as a child (chosing not to believe in god), but i've grown into an adult and now i have the freedom to chose whatever belief i want...i'm comfortable believing that there is a higher power and we all exist for a reason beyond our comprehension in this life.

you can beat this till it's beyond dead, and we still won't get anywhere...we'll find out when we die. that's all there is to it.

is that good enough?

Posted by NiteMer on Sep-14-2004 16:22:

Look. I don't care what the establishment known as the "Church" does. Many horrible things have been done over time, in the name of God, wrongly. That's why I don't put much stock in bureaucracies like the Catholic Church. I think that Church is a good thing and fellowship is highly important, but the Crusades, indulgences, etc., were all wrong. I'm not saying there aren't true believers that align themselves with Catholicism. I am just saying that the pope is a mere man/mortal. He is equally flawed as any of us, inately. As far as other beliefs and "hell". That is focusing on the wrong message completely. God's message is about love and forgiveness and sacrifice, not God sending people to hell. That's not how it works. God cannot be with sin. It is a paradox as he is sin free. But if you are offered a gift, you have the choice of whether or not to receive it. Obviously all of you have heard about it, then you make your choice. I am not gonna judge that decision, by any means, but you have the option. If you choose to deny it, you have your own consequences. But, you don't have to worry about that if you're right. I am not telling you what to think.

I knew I could count on you to lighten things up, Jason.

Look, I don't even mind having these discussions. I'm not gonna get all mad, because people don't agree with me. I'm also trying not to offend anyone. I am stating my views and reading others. I see that as healthy.

Tranceholic - You are right, there is some attacking, but don't we know that is our plight?

Most everyone is just debating and discussing. We're all friends. There are a few that get all hardcore, but it's not worth worrying about.

My dumb ass didn't buy a ticket to Ultra last year. We were trying to sell t-shirts, so we sat outside. Definitely planning on attending that event next year.

If it's good enough for you, then I'll obviously just have to learn to live with it.

But, if you're up to it, I'm still curious about the answer to one question: you say that you have the freedom to choose whatever belief you want - well, why did you choose the one you chose?

Don't you realize that this argument just cycles. We tell you, you don't buy it and you ask again. I think it's time to get over this whole discussion.

Edit - Same reason I don't enjoy listening to creation vs. evolution debates. I have plenty. The argument just cycles around. It is never forward moving, and those are two sides well represented by knowledgeable authorities. Here we don't even have the information. If I wanted to spend a bunch of time researching all of the things I have seen or heard to substantiate them, you still wouldn't believe it. I am not gonna post things I can't give proof for, but I don't consider this conversations worth hours of research, just to prove to you. I've seen my data and my evidence, and I know you'll jump on this one. Maybe I will get some data together for you at some point, but not now. I have a job, and work to do, and no internet at home.
