Got bored by 3rd page, so just to add my 2p

candykids/their foreign counterparts arent to be ousted just because you dont like how they look.

One of the things that drew me to the club scene was teh acceptance of different types of people.

Just because I dont go all lumo-coloured clothing with coloured dots on my face doesnt mean I should look down on those that do.

Elitism is a growing problem in the EDM scene, especially with loser chinstrokers who dont even know how to have a good time, because they cant dance and know they would look like idiots if they tried. So they sit back and moan about the people who are having a good time.

'Candykids', and I use the term loosley for the time being, happen to be an integral part of UK clubbing culture. Like them or loathe them, they make up the majority of clubbers in the hardhouse/trance scene, whereas the more 'upmarket' types with designer labels tend to be more breaks/prog orientated. The UK house scene is funnily enough not as superficial as one would think, if you avoid the commercialised side of it like Hed Kandi and Miss Monepennys.

I'm not a candykid, I have never been one either (they dont really exist in SA where I started clubbing), but I like the enjoy myself when I go out, I dance my ass off and often use glowsticks because in the right hands they look pretty wikkid.

*Kicks the soap box out from under Krysta_101's feet*

Now quit yer whining

I dont really have a problem with you......i just feel you judge people simply by the way they dress...i am sure you can name at least 2 friends who act immature in clubs that are not candy ravers....all i am saying is dont judge others on appearances.

Just read some of page 4

People under 21 shouldnt be allowed in clubs?

WTF!!!

That means 5 out of my 6.5 years clubbing I shouldnt have been allowed to do?

Just because the US is so up it's arse with their stupid age laws (Sure, drive a car and have a gun before you are allowed to have a drink ) doesnt mean the world's clubscene should abide to them.

Mebbe that'll be Bush's next agenda, 'The War on Age Limits in Foreign Countries'

Music is about music. It shouldn't be about how you look, what race you are, or how new the club is. Good music should make people dance and forget about all the other bullshit in life.

Krysta_101 what you said is crass.

Your attitude Krysta_101 is central to understanding the cultural problems in the mainstream club culture; which is an emphasis on image rather than music.

Thus the reason why underground parties are so central to EDM. Underground eliminates all the bullshit which is dear to mainstram clubs ( i.e. image and location)

If you want good music in some pompous and crass enviroment good luck because its a pompous and crass enviroment for a reason.

P.S.

The clubs in Chicago ( in my understanding) , aside from Vision and Sound Bar, have a primary focus on creating a scene and image foremost.95% of the clubs/lounges in Chicago don't care for music. They appeal to the masses ( i.e. what to do or how to appear to make a $$$)

Its all the same bullshit every year. A club gets hyped up in Chicago because it new or because xyz people go there to party. It plays shit music but its 'trendy'.

Like CT Princeess said the HEART of Chicago is Underground.

Ummm, most djs don't dress like kandii ravers. And why is everyone focusing on just one part of the whole statement? It's growing rather tiresome rather quickly.

Because your initial claim was so patently absurd and we called you on it.
To be honest i don;t know what your other point is.

I really haven't bothered to read this debate. It's the same old story throughout the ages and I gave up on it way back in '94, when EDM was undoubtedly at it's peak here in the americas with the Eurohouse invasion (well, in Canada, at least).

I just wanted to say that Krysta's friend in the middle on the picture is mighty cute.

Posted by tiesto14 on Apr-07-2005 16:55:

And for a side note...i saw you mentioned the movie Party Monster.

I hope you know that Michael Alig was one of the BEST people ever to come to the NYC club scene...If you ask most people he created the best times NYC had. He was the original NYC clubkid. Without him who knows what direction NYC would of gone (1995-1999). He made a HUGE difference for the better.

Which leads me to wonder why he was played by Seth Green...

Either way, I'll agree with you on that, I'm saying that American kandii ravers are idiots as a rule of thumb. I don't know how many times I've said that now in the span of this thread. My point is, why is it EDM just can't get big around here? What are your thoughts on the vast apathy towards EDM? Quit focusing on just one part of what I said, there's more to it than just that one statement.
