BWAHAHAHAHAHA

Up here in Toronto/Canada regardless of ethnicity we call them ginos/ginas. Guido is non-existent as a term North of the border .

I came to the conclusion that female or male, I would refer to them as "Julio". Kinda like hoe female and male giraffes are still giraffes...

They're not worth the extra effort : )

Posted by sshyperion on Aug-25-2005 20:39:

I'll just call them poseurs as I've been doing so for a now...or fashion ripoffs whichever I feel like at the time

I don't think it's an embarassment to say you like trance. I mean it's the best. Is it embarassing to say you like the 49ers Dynasty, the Bulls Dynasty, the Lakers Dynasty of today and yesterday? Of course not. Because it's the best. Everything else is like the Clippers.

But when I tell people what I listen to, I say something like tribal-progressive-psy-drum n'core-breaks together just to test them.

Heh. I see people talking about high school. When I was in high school there was about 4 people who liked EDM. Of course, they were the cool kids in school. I sat next to a drum N bass kid, who I also suspect stole one of my cds when I was taking a shit.

It can't be an embarrasment as my mates like happy hardcore

Posted by The_G0dfather on Aug-25-2005 21:44:

ppl know techno (at least they think they know what it is) and hardcore aka jump nowadays
but most of em wont really know what you mean exactly by trance except for saying: "ah Tiƫsto?", if you're lucky that is

ah and to answer to your question : its not really an embarassment, i'm always proud to say it

Posted by sshyperion on Aug-25-2005 22:16:

I think the forum core question is revolving around whether or not those around you make Trance an embarassment to personally like but yeah

what r u talking about the dance scene was built around drugs without drugs clubs as we know them would probably never exist the scene has a deserved reputation if u dont like it then its tough.

alright I'm not afraid to admit that the scene may have heavily relied on drug usage to boost its existence but I think we can get around the "reputation" of being drug hotspots whenever that type of music is played. But that's my opinion for which you can disagree and I'll respect, provided you back up/provide your reasoning why.

Personally, I'm not embarrassed to admit trance because I love it. There definitely is a stigma against the word "trance". Either you are assumed to do drugs, or are not mature enough to appreciate "real" music. The best was the other night when someone at work said - "I just hate trance bc there are no words in it"...

ummm...

yeah.

It all seems to boil down to conforming to general standards of what is cool as well as a simple lack of musical education.

my 2 cents.

Nobody likes it in Seattle because all of the good trance goes to the 21+ clubs, and the trance that's heard at the all ages events is usually cheese. Plus, there is a huge DnB following hear. Plus it's Seattle, need I say more. If you talk to anyone about trance, they'll say they love Tiesto or Lasgo or some shit, even though they probably don't follow them at all. They are just uber popular. Nobody knows what they are usually talking about here in my experience.

Posted by s3nate on Aug-27-2005 10:00:

At least they say Tiesto and dont bash trance.

Posted by Soonmeister on Aug-27-2005 12:19:

Not many people around my area have heard of trance...mainly because its infested with that god awful boucey house and MCin shite bibble babble grrrrr ( people in manchester area of UK who have heard of wigan pier, Cricketers and Maximes will know what im chatting )

im loud and proud of the music i listen to..im not ashamed of saying im a tranceaddict..when i tell people i get the usual " yeah your into trance cool do you take Ecstacy? " typical stereotype and plus my favourite " wow trance thats differant... who is your fav dj..Dj sammy or Special D "

ill laugh and look in shock and say " nooooo fooking way.. its people like Ferry Corsten and Armin Van Buuren" and they are like " who are they? "

i work in a mainstream bar and our music policy is crap and trance is a big no no, but a few CDs later he was playing it and people who have never heard the music are dancing to it..my manager came down and asked me whats this music playing and i said trance and she gave me a confused look and said i wernt expecting this....... sorry going on now ill shut it hahahahaha

i dont understand why u think there is less drug use in trance then with other forms of edm like techno for example.
Trance is called trance cose its supposed to put u in a state of trance all that euphoric uplifting stuff is made for talking pills to when ur rushing of them the music was made for the club / drug scene theres no way round it.
So theres no wonder people that dont go to these clubs think there just drug dens and for the best part they r right u cant deny that 80-90% of people that go to clubs take drugs its a part of a good night out for them.

Liverpool is in a funny situation. Home to Cream, and i dont really have to explain what Cream means to Trance . But the actual Trance genre isnt that highly rated here. The genre of House music known as 'Scouse House' is dominant here and has its roots in Liverpool, and so the native producers/Djs take preference as they'll sell out any large event. Cream normally sells out at events at Club Nation when they bother having one, but its the 'Cream' name that attracts the customers, not Paul van Dyk or Ferry Corsten on the lineup. Theirs a good Funky House/Prog House movement too with the likes of Garlands and the Masque hosting Chikubu Shake amongst others.

I've been to events and get the same euphoric state of mind listening to trance music without drugs, although my substitute for it is one or two alcoholic drinks (I'm a cheap drunk and damn proud of it). Most of my friends who are into trance as well do the same and avoid the drug usage altogether. Also I've never said that drug usage was limited to the Trance genre. I was talking about its usage specific to the trance scene. I know drugs are used in other genres, EDM or not but that's not my point in this case .

I don't disagree that a large chunk of scene goers do some kind of drug whether it's E, booze or whatever. I'm just stating the belief that the scene doesn't have to revolve around its usage and that a good chunk of people I know who are part of that 20-10 % of current goers agree that it's not entirely necessary to get to that fixed state. As well (tieing this back to the thread topic) I know some good hardcore trance lovers who aren't into drugs and not too snap happy to go to trance scenes because of the drug usage and discomfort in seeing some people around them totally out of it to a sometimes scary degree (esp. after hearing and seeing the damage from taking some of those drugs.
