To add something irrelevant to the entire discussion.
I still like epic trance, and I like Gouryella (damn, I have 3 cdm's!) and I love hardtrance!
I dislike minimalclickhousetechnobreaks that's so obscure and underground that no-one can get into it, and when you're into it....well, that doesn't make you a cooler or more 'EDM enlightened' person than the rest of the TA's...
Although, being on TA made me appriciate people like Holden, Sasha and Nathan Fake, which I normally would stuff away in a little corner with the tag 'boring stuff I don't like' above it. And I like cheesy stuff too, I have the cd's of Ian van Dahl, Lasgo, Alice Deejay, Milk Inc, and they're lying together with Fundacion and Balance 005 and 006 in the same cd-case.

Boo! Sellout! Capitalist piece of ****!

Personally, I tend to slap a cheese label on tracks with quite simple melodies and such, which are clearly made for the dancefloor and are highly effective in that aspect for most people. I know I shouldn't, because it's a valuable type of talent when you can produce tracks like that, but still, most of the times I just tend to dislike them (from the start, not just after they've been beaten to death).

Examples are Traffic, Murder was the bass, Rocker, and so on. I know most people here will disagree on me labeling them as cheese, but still, I do. Doesn't mean they're not effective as hell, as I've stated earlier.

Just kidding.

But if some mean that:
Lost Tribe - Gameaster
Paul Van Dyk - Words (PvD's For Love Mix)
Hands Burn - Good Shot
Binary Finary - 1999
is cheese, then the whole genre trance/prog is cheese....

What's the meaning of the pluses after the word "Lasgo"?

Take Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes
Original sweeping strings 12" when it first came out was the hottest thing in trance for a good while. When it got big enuf and Gab n Dres saw there was money 2 b made they decided 2 put it on general release. The corresponding "radio edit" with unecessary vocals then BECAME cheese. But it was never a cheesy tune before

Lots of tunes have had this happen 2 them. Darude - Sandstorm for instance which i never liked but it was a crackin club track.

Point is tunes that are "happy" tend 2 get labelled cheese for whatever reason. Personally i think its just bitterness from guys who like stuf that isnt commercially accessable. Trance is there 2 b enjoyed by every1. At festivals the trance tent is usually the biggest and most packed out.

So wot if its not "cool" but cheesy it aint. If a tune gets overplayed SO WHAT? The classics get overplayed but who complains when ure in the middle of a festival and bang Ferry plays Out of The Blue? NOBODY cuz were all too busy luvin it so much 2 care wot people that bash tunes like it think.

That may be true but you should go see someone like Sander or Zabiela live. Doesn't even compare to Tiesto.

people tend to confuse between commercial stuff, and cheese. Just cuz a track is commercial doesn't mean at all that its cheese. Cheese is that Vengaboys & euro-dance shit!

Posted by Aiwendil on Jul-11-2005 06:14:

Delerium - Silence (DJ Tiesto's ISOS Remix)
DJ Tiesto - Suburban Train
Rank 1 - Airwave
Gouryella - Gouryella
Veracocha - Carte Blanche
Armin - Communication
Agnelli & Nelson - El Nino (Matt Darey Remix)
Transa - Enervate

I'm not joking.
