the majority of staff at guvernment are just plain rude assholes. from the bouncers/security/bartenders...mind you thats a huge generalization, there are some really nice ppl, but its hard to believe how many rude ppl work there. same deal when i asked for a glass of water to a bartender, they wouldn't give me one and insisted i pay the $4 for a bottle. and then i went to another bartender and they had no problem giving me a glass of water. they should think of it this way, give me a glass, i'll give you a tip, make me pay $4 for water and you sure as hell aint getting a tip.

best trance set I've heard this year!

Mark Oliver set the bar *really* high with his opening set...PVD's the Other Side perked me up...love that track...and he proceeded to just rip it up from there on.

Above & Beyond...what can I really say...not that I don't enjoy a good prog trance or tech trance set...but we need some more pure, unadulterated, epic trance like this more often The partial tracklist says it all...brilliant set and they were obviously having a good time in the booth themselves.

nitrogen machine = godsend...except that not being able to see for 20 seconds is indeed unnerving...I was waiting to get an elbow in the face or something, but most people were smart enough to not jump around during the fog...and having damp clothes momentarily stiffen a bit feels weird too, lol...we needed more of that later in A&B's set because it was F**KING HOT on that dancefloor. Crowd was a bit pushy, but nothing worse that usual @ Guv.

TAs as far as the eye could see...always comfortable to be in that environment...I don't often stray from the crew, but just having those familiar faces everywhere makes me wander around a bit. Natalie, Graham, Frank, Serge, Sean, Simon, trancedchaos, partegurl, smucky, tordan, samhouse, tully...memory is now failing...good to see you all and have the chance to chat to a few for a while.

I was exhausted and sore even before the end of A&B's set and ended up leaving around sometime around 5 or shortly after for a sketched out "meal" at Fran's with a few of the crew...great music that night though...I think my next night out will be Aug. 12 @ System for some TAs in the main room...see many of you there, I'm sure

have any of you guys been to cancun? at this club called 'the city' they have a cold air machine that puts the guv coldair machine to shame. i remember they only used it a few times in the nite. but cold air would rush down really quickly from the cieling (prolly at least 10x the intensity of the guv machine (used at the breakbeat) and the machine would continue shooting out cold air for about 20-30seconds. it was the most refreshing thing a nite club has ever seen. (except for those crazy pool nite clubs in europe)

it worked very well this weekend I might add.. last weekend.. no such luck. I guess it just depends on the night

Posted by cyper on Jul-25-2005 10:17:

As usual, I spent most of the night trying to get rid of the glowsticks I had so that someone could put them to good use (I was way to tired to dance with them). I cant remember who, but I think somebody took them eventually. (Playa24_7 maybe?)

Also a Warning to everyone.. Never park your car on Cooper street. Because you will get it Towed. I should know.

Hope to see everyone again @ Labour of Love IV.

Smiley DJ

Wow, sat was an amazing party! Met soo many TA's infront of the DJ booth it was insane! An still recovering from that night, I think I need a wheelchair to help me get around for the next few days; let my feet recover from all the crazy dancing :P

I wasn't able to soak many of the names into my memory, since everywhere I turned I was greated by a new faces & a new smiles..

Also, wanna send a shout out to 'IrishAddict', thanks laura it was awesome that you took me at the end of the night to go an personally meet 'Above & Beyond', they're pretty cool guys

Agree on both most posts in here, great night. From the time we got there till the time we left every track was off the hook - It was what a trance night should be, uplifting, flowing, and amazing! Also have to mention, for the first time I found the Guv tolerable, and reaffirmed the place to be! Most people seemed to be there for Above and Beyond, and was a real up for it crowd. PVD's the Other Side, great, I've been waiting to hear that one on the big sound - amazing! I think the whole crowd was also singing along to that Dido track!

Nice to finally meet some TA's!

ooooooooooooooooh AIR FOR LIFE!!!

I almost lost it when they opened with that one, and then it just kept getting better. Tracklist says it all. I think I remember hearing Lucas & Beltram Trust Me in there somewhere as well. I would have stayed on the floor the whole time but it was just too hot, even with the ice blaster, which is a great addition to the place. Definetly agree it should be used more often.

All in all a great night. Euphorica - thanks man, great seeing you again. Unfortunately didn't get to meet up with any other TAs because I had to wait AN HOUR to get in to the drink! Never seen the line like that.

Toronto is definetly the place for trance.

Posted by awishabear on Jul-25-2005 14:29:

booourns for internet being down on sunday! I feel so out of the loop and slow lol
ANYWAY...........
Celica, vickyvale, Playa24_7 and I got to TO early-ish, i think, I wasn't really paying attention (I was too concerned with TO drivers... I was the only one awake besides Aaron cuz he was driving, and we almost got smoked like, three times on the highway... bleh) but it took forever to actually get INTO the Guv cuz the bouncers and doorstaff suck...
Despite the fact that the Guv royally sucked as a venue IMHO (that was my first Guv experience, but i'm not a fan of being in physical contact with more than 5 people at a time when I don't know their names and can't tell if they're male or female, and their sweat is all over me, it just makes me shudder) Above and Beyond was simply amazing. I felt bad that I wasn't dancing as hardcore as I could, but I honestly had no room. It was like, every time I TRIED to move, someone in front of me or behind me was moving twice as fast, so I kept getting pushed back. Kinda sucked. I loved the tunes, though. There was no way I wasn't stompin my feet or bobbing my head or something. I just got REALLY tired really fast, and couldn't do much. BUT! The beginning of the night was awesome, never seen so many TAs at once (biggest conglomoration next to Airwave @ Viva, that I was in attendane at, at least), never seen so many new faces, never witnessed so much love in one room. So many people!!!! I'ma do my best to say hi to everyone.
Tracks were great, I recognized a few (i'm still not a listen-and-automatically-know kinda girl, I gotta hear it a few times) but it was good! After a while out on the floor where it was stuffy and sweaty and headthrobbingly loud (kudos to preylude for the extra earplugs, I owe you, hun), Celica and I hung out at the stage with lowell and melody and saw tyler and fahad and danny and nada dancing up there, minutes late I actually caught an Aspekt single! woot! Not long after that though, we lost track of dan and ange so we went lookin for them, but couldn't find them, and it was getting to be that time where if you've been dancing and celebrating and NOT had enough to drink you get tired, so we left. Pity too, cuz apparently we JUST MISSED the hangout with Paavo and Jono. Not cool, but I was asleep 5 minutes later anyway. Around 6 Dan and Ange found us at the car, and we left. I was home at 730, slept until 1. Very nice.
SHOUTOUTS
Those of you who I have failed to remember must not hold it against me! I was tired, it was loud, there were SO MANY new faces, I'll do my best: (new faces first)MaxTO, Muha (where's that beer, dude?), b4k-oz, chinaman, Shanny, Shaya007, iLLnaDa, naesean3 (for real... we've met before, but not really, and I don't know if we actualy talked, but I saw you!), I recognized Lisa-loo but didn't say hi, and a couple of others, but it was too hard to get around. Now for the familiars: fayraree ( I LOVE YOU FAHAD ), trancegrooves, smuncky, theresa, stereo mada, Ampz, Jer (and Justin, nice kid!), Cyper, VERTiGO, preylude, Irishaddict, Playa24_7, Aaron, vickyvale....even Lowell showed up with Melody. Now who the hell did I miss? SOmeone's name is at the very front of my head, and I can't think of it. I BEG YOUR FORGIVENESS
ANyway, I'm at work, and this took me like, half an hour, so congrats TA for sidetracking me yet again! I LOVE YOU ALL!

Posted by Flashpoint on Jul-25-2005 14:42:

Awesome first time at the Guv... It couldn't have been any more perfect, meeting Paavo and Jono before the show, meeting all the TAs, and trance until 6am in the morning Again thanks to all the TAs for the good times, it was great meeting you guys/gals.

Bit late for my full review. so ill make it brief:

Best night of the year so far. Its kinda rare I actually just LET LOOSE on a night and go insane, but i found myself gasping for breath a bit (and my voice is still a little shot) at times during the sets.

Mark: Best set ive heard ever. If your reading this, Much respect. Very much enjoyed it. Shivers = One of the top 4 songs of the night. You ALMOST built it up too much so that ppl were dead by the time A&B came on. Perfect opening

A&B: Awsome guys, Ill try to get the interview out to let everyone here, if not see, for themselves (very technically oriented though)
After the event I asked if they wanted to come down and meet all the TA's and they were like sure, lets go, but the promoter wasn't to thrilled with that idea. So i tried to send some ppl up to meet them. Hope some did Very down to earth

As for their music, just amazing, They said they were going to play a little harder and yes they cranked it out. Tracks of the night from them include: Birth of an Angel vs Its my Turn, Noone on Earth vs What it Feels Like for a girl, Delerium silence, Air For life (The cooling jets like on "The Club" from Vegas are an AWSOME adition to the guv, though it was hard to breath. Love it though) and Let the Light Shine in (Tune of the night)

To everyone there, It was awsome to see 50+ ta's and meet some new faces. TA of the night: Spyder for her Caution tape idea. Very brilliant

Ill see you guys all back for Matt Darey and F&P at Viva on the 26th. I think im off to PVD and CL in NYC on the 20th

Ampz

Sup ALL!

Great night! Especially loved Mark Oliver's warm up before Above and Beyond he dropped some amazing tracks and there was still room to dance! After, the amount of people made it impossible to move since I am the kinda person who likes to dance with everything not just my arms. But I was kinda expecting that so I wasnt disappointed.

The cold air/fog machine was craaaaaazzzzzyyyyy I remember at one point I was borderlining reality as I could see nothing but crazy colors all around and hear amazing angelic synths. That was sick!!! Do it more often!

Highlight of the night was definately: Dido - Sand in my Shoes (Above and Beyond remix) altho I dont think it was Above and Beyond who dropped it but the Dj's that came after.

Btw, does any1 know where the pics are from the guy who was handing out ORANGE room cards?? Looked like he had some professional camera...

Usually, I'll remember a few outstanding tracks from the set, but not this time. This time, every damn track was outstanding - I'm not even gonna try to list all the goodness that they dropped. It was pure, PROPER Trance. The way God intended it to be - no progressive, no experimental stuff, only the best of the best.

Werd

Sounds like I missed an fucking incredible set!

AHHH lol i'm at work totally forgot about reviewing. Went up to the cottage in collingwood on Sunday at around 11am got home at 12 then had to be up at 7 today to go to work.

Posted by djvery on Jul-25-2005 16:01:

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was a phenomenal night... my best night of clubbing EVER!
I'll keep this short... the TA's were awesome! what a great atmosphere, people around you going nuts, yelling out lyrics, etc. That ice machine was so damn cool, couldn't even see your hand if you put it up in front of your face.
Now THE MUSIC!!! DAMN!!! So hype. Have never heard a live set like this. All of it was awesome, but some highlights for me:
Chakra - Home (A&B mix)
Oceanlab - Beautiful Together, Satellite
Darren Tate vs. Jono Grant - Let the Light Shine In
SMITH AND PLEDGER - NORTHERN LIGHTS!!! (seemed I was the only person who went nuts during this!!)
Above & Beyond - Air for Life (great opener)

and later, Mark Oliver dropped (can add these to the tracklist):
Nu-Nrg - Dreamland (I don't know which mix)
Lost Witness ft. Tiff Lacey - Home (Mike Shiver mix)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tiesto - Adagio for Strings

I stayed right to the end.. I was waiting for a crappy track, but Mark Oliver just kept putting down tune after tune.

See you guys at the next show, but I think it will be a while before a night like that is beaten!

Posted by Candeeman on Jul-25-2005 16:25:

Confused

Does anyone know the name of that Marco V track that A&B dropped near the end? It was just before Silence (I think).....
