Astros & Braves going into the 14th inning
We have an instant classic here
At this rate, it just might take us right up to the Yanks-Angels game
We just might see Roger Clemens pitch in relief
Florida Marlins: 1.53 WHIP, 4.82 ERA
Atlanta Braves: 1.52 WHIP, 4.66 ERA
Philadelphia Phillies: 1.28 WHIP, 4.25 ERA
New York Mets: 1.44 WHIP, 3.78 ERA
Washington Nationals: 1.34 WHIP, 3.49 ERA
Interesting, no? Weren't the Mets supposed to have the worst bullpen in not only the NL East, but in the entire National League? I love stuff like this...
Lachey is starting again tonight. What do you guys think? Enough rest for him to play against the Yank's?
Yes, Im a newb and I want to get alittle more educate, what does WHIP stand for?
My only guess would be 'Something' Hits per Innings Pitched.

Walks + Hits per inning. That's usually the best stat to go by when judging pitchers as ERA is dependent partially on defense. This year, only Johan and Pedro had WHIPs less than 1.00. And that's dominant. Pedro's 2000 year, he had a 0.80, which is the lowest since 1880.
in comes Clemens to pitch (unless the Astros win it here in the 15th)
and he's going to pinch-hit!
It would've been sweet seeing him drive in the winning run, but he does his job and lays down a nice sac bunt

Originally posted by Vlad Listen, no matter what anyone says, Pedro is undoubtedly one of the top 10 pitchers ever to play baseball - when hes on, you might as well just forfeit the game. And you could say the same about the Big Unit in his prime, but Im not sure if hes top 10... top 20 more likely.

Originally posted by Shamez214 Dude... you think you have to tell me that? As far as I'm concerned, he is *the* greatest pitcher ever.
Could you imagine a rotation with Pedro and Mariano in it... hypotheically... if both of them are on... its safe to say youre not scoring a run, and would be lucky to get a hit.

Originally posted by Vlad Its hard to say anyone is the greatest ever, because you dont know how past pitchers would do against today's hitters and vise versa. So any kind of status you put on a pitcher is only speculation.
going into the 17th...
2 Mets records fall
Longest postseason game in innings (1986 vs. Astros)
Longest division series game in time (2000 vs. Giants)
just a little longer, and they'll break the postseason game record, held by the Ventura grand slam single game
Braves are like 1 for a million with runners in scoring position today. Sigh ...

i just want the braves and astros to keep trading runs every inning...now that would be classic
Game Over.
amazing end to an amazing game, to win the series
Chris Burke (who got his first ever homer against Pedro, breaking up his no-hitter) with walk-off homer in the 18th
Good thing they won in that inning because I think we all know that Clemens was TOAST if he went back out there.

Originally posted by Shamez214 Well... I think it's safe to say that Babe Ruth and Ted Williams are the two greatest hitters ever. So, I'll say that Pedro is the greatest pitcher ever. Of course, this is only going by stats. But... pretty accurate stats.

Originally posted by Vlad The Bambino called home runs while he was at bat... thats just not normal, lol. And Ted Williams, was without a doubt the best hitter. 2 triple crowns, and 6 or so batting titles. Definitely the most deserving player in MLB history to win a WS and never do it.

Originally posted by Shamez214 Wellllll... Babe Ruth called his shot once. And that's not even confirmed. Also, as much as I dig Ted Williams, how you can say he's a better hitter than Ruth is beyond me. Babe Ruth is the best hitter of all time.
and ruth did his damage in the dead ball era. am i missing something
