-- for the TA elitists...
Pages (9): « 1 2 3 4 5 6 [7] 8 9 »
I'm all for not helping kids who are just polluting the forums with useless chatter and constant complaining. By all means, withold information from the people who appear not to deserve it. It's good to not give people instant gratification, and instead only share with those who are genuinely interested, anything else is a wasted effort, I can agree with that much at least.
I guess I can do my part to help improve the "environment" around here so that more kids talk about music again, even though I highly doubt that anybody considers me even remotely elite.
I think it is worthwhile to explore this a bit more:

| I'm tired of people treating trance like a cute Fisher-Price toy, when it has diversity and depth behind it. |
Dischord is the primary source of human drama.
It shouldn't be a surprise that it permeates reality by design.
I am my worst ennemy. Or more accurately, I am my greatest generator of dischord.
i gotta give credit to floorfiller and rebel9, i remember way back when i had loads of unknown tunes, a lot of the time those 2 were ID'ing the tunes i wanted
of course if people like you stop positive contributions, then the place will only get worse. stop being so selfish

. They don't know who the l337 ppl are (and anyone who calls himself l337, needs a head shrink), and who aren't. and they haven't yet learnt how to co-ordinate themselves in this site. SO you can't expect much else.
Elitism brings nothing to the table. I've found in my time here that "good" members of this forum bring strong knowledge in any area to the table, whether it's trance, computers, or autmobiles. This knowledge plus the ability to express themselves clearly seems to make for long-time, well-liked members.
The problem with staying here a long time is the noob cycle. For every one noob who understands the (un)written rules of the forum, there are 10 who come in and act like complete assholes. I'm talking about violating rules like TYPING IN ALL CAPS, asking for The_New_MP3-1919, or repeating oft-posted topics. It's not so much the transgression of rules that pisses people off (though for some it does), it's when the noobs react defensively or harshly towards people trying to correct them.
Now, the way that longer-term members react varies in it's appropriateness. Some of them are more caustic than need be. And their are some borderline topics that often turn into flame wars. The biggest of these is whether it's appropriate to say that artists or genres that have already been the "in-thing" here suck and attack those who like them. I tend to side with those who say the attacking is ok, with some rules. The most important of these is: Provide Evidence. Stating your opinion without facts to back it up is like throwing sand at a rock to move it. You should also not take criticism from another personally; criticizing something you like is not the same as criticizing you.
Differences are a part of life and you should be prepared to accept that people will have different opinions than you. As forum mebers, we should get along, even with our different tastes in music, because while this site is called tranceaddict, the forum mebership goes far beyond that label. Having intelligent discussions on music of all kinds seems to be the purpose of this part of the forum.

I woudnt have bothered to reply to your post because I dont think you are an elite, you see people who are elite are actually the ones who contibute to the scene by producing new tracks. You dont become an elite by posting insults to n00bs or by posting insults to Dave Dresden to impress your fellow 'elitists'. You see I am not trying to discredit this thread. I am genuinly intested in knowing more about Africa and its people, but I didnt wanted to post a new thread for that. Thats why I asked him and his reply was fabulous, it got me more interested in Africa. |

the TA community and caste system exists ONLY in your mind. i suggest that some of you guys open up one of these every once in a while. it may be a little scary at first, but you'll get through it. i promise.

well, yeah but like, i mean, its all about like, u know how its all kinda thing, but then it wasnt like that for long because it was all good but then it wasnt, and then he said "corororororoorad" and he was like "umm, nooooooo" but its not that simple anyway because you arent taking into account the seriousness of it all, at the end of the day, things arent that black and white, but i wasnt anyway so it doesnt matter really does it?

Recently. I have been becoming a more active user. I registered back in 2003 simply for the selfish reason of finding track lists, and didn't give a hoot about the TA community. But starting in late 2004 I did start to care, and started really participating in the MPP and PS forums. So I'm bumping this. Because it's worthy of conversation still.
I really have enjoyed the good conversations in MD. But sadly. Most of the good ones. Are older ones; and I've noticed a growing trend of shit-saturation in ALL the forums.
I thought I'd share my comments about this issue. Because I too have posted either silly threads or dumb comments in MD. And now I see how good this particular forum could be/once was.
I was reading it from the beginning. And a lot of people confuse elitists with jerks. The true TA elites on here aren't going to be-little you and make fun of your for your tastes. They might jab at you a bit, but that's par for the course of being a new user. It's happened to me several times. It's a right of passage. Get over it. We were all noobs once (the song that was in the background was actually the 2003 Remix of Gamemaster, but silly me). The real elitists do suggest neat new songs for your ears; have good thoughts and overall have a pretty good attitude.
But unfortunately MD seems to be filled now a days with two types of people I've seen.
1. The pseudo-elitist jerks:
Whose replies and comments consist mainly of "TIESTO SUCKS" and other sarcastic comments. I know this, because I've been there, and unfortunately the internet makes it all too easy to be a jerk. There are also the kind of people who utterly ignore posts too, because it seems too below them. I've posted advice in even seemingly "dumb" threads. How else are youngn's going to learn?
2. Dumb Noobs:
There's noobs... who occasionally post something silly and old (which to them is new.) But they learn quickly the search feature. And are generally decent members. And then there's the dumb noobs, which are really more like trolls. And I can't stand them. They always ask the same question over and over again. They never seem to have anything positive to say. And the never EVER learn the search button. I should point out that most of these toolsheds end up finding their way to the COR and just stagnating there screaming "BBQ" and "ORLY." (although I'll admit to loving anything owl-related now)
So I do feel for Floorfiller (this is what he means by being nice: he posted a complete discog with pics of the gatecrasher series, even though I noobed it up by posting the request in the wrong section and I didn't use the search feature). I haven't been as active as long as many of the ta "old school" here. But I definitely get the feeling the MD gets more trite by the day. And like others had stated in this thread; it's not just MD that's affected. The DJ Booth suffers, production studio, music producer promotion... the list goes on.
I get this bad feeling sometimes that Tranceaddict is just become too saturated. It seems every other day some troll is spamming a new "OMGTRANCEMUSICWEBSITE" in one of the promotion forums.
I'm sick and tired of it too.
There. Those are my thoughts. Goodnight.

Leave the simple questions to other people to answer.
its general forum culture to have arguments and dissagree, dont do a Dave Dresden on us !
Holy ressurection batman.
