Why thank you Scott

I think I got carried away a bit and my point got muddled (I am sure I had a point). I am not claiming to know the answer to running a night, I will leave that to you guys but I just think it's sad that everyone is walking around pointing this finger "OI YOU, YOU KILLED TRANCE YOU DOUCHE BAG" As my dear friend anomyst has just stated the party is what you make of it. There is a lot of partying to be done this weekend with two awesome nights happening.

*Puts on party hat & Hooters top*

You know what I mean?

trance lives in the hearts of every man and women, all you have to do is listen in to find it!

What do you think could help things?

Less drugs, a clean night where people can go and enjoy themselves.

What do you think is going wrong?

To many Armin van Buurens/Tiestos. F***s sake just play what you like not what ya hear in live sets or on ASOT.

What do you want or go looking for in a night out?

Alot of Women!!!

How is it that a genre so big globally (in the edm scene i mean) is doing so poorly in a city as brilliant as Melbourne?

Its doing so poorly here because, everyones a DJ where are the artists.

rekkin its doing so poorly cos, the majority of people got sick of it, it skipped a generation of kiddies, the majority of the publics perception of EDM is that its a drug fucked environment, there is an ethnic stigma also but mostly i think in melbourne at least clever marketing and some hard werk has yielded house as king.. for now at least!!

Agreed.. I was at Summerfieldayze at the coast on the weekend, all I'll say is the supersaw is causing a boom in the housing market.

Posted by Aesthetic on Jan-12-2006 22:11:

Nothing wrong with the supersaw. It's instrumental in music, just like the guitar is with rock and roll. Everything is good if it's done right.

The same thing has happened to trance here in NZ. Im lucky to have played at Altitude quite a few times in Melbourne (usually starting my set with progressive) and have always had a blast. And I'll hopefully play there again.

The thing with trance is that it was absoulutely rinsed out in just about every club in the world for about 5 years with DJ after DJ playing the same tunes nonstop and the mainstream population have simply moved on from it. Theres too many purist DJs who only like Anjuna Beats style uplifting trance which drives the majority of punters away now because they are sick of it IMO.

Driving Progressive/Tech/Psy Trance is the way forward
Plus everyone running round making statements like "Quick, we have to save trance! Everyone go to this gig!" just sounds desperate and creates a self fulfilling prophecy.

Posted by jizza on Jan-13-2006 01:03:

hey curious astral, im a south auckland boy from wayyyyy back and been here in oz for a good decade now... but do the maoris/polynesians get into the dance scene over there?

Are you suggesting it would be better to not go to nights when they are on their last legs?

Posted by charlee on Jan-13-2006 01:15:

Now this I gotta see! Scott Bateman playing psy Just Kidding. I like the techy more driving stuff myself

Posted by Light The Fuse on Jan-13-2006 01:17:

Not at all. All Im suggesting is that its not a good look when newbies come onto message boards and everyones talking about how dead trance is. They then go and read all the posts in the House and Breaks forums and get a better vibe so go with that.

The thing is trance isnt dead. Its just not popular in mainstream clubs anymore and trying to argue it back into popularity will have the opposite effect - If you have to try and convince people that something is cool...then it probably isnt.

Posted by Light The Fuse on Jan-13-2006 01:31:

gimmie 6 months jolz..i dunno about that full on 145 bpm stuff...i dun mind the semi cheesy j00f style tho...acceptable?
