| Originally posted by Carey LOL...this really doesn't sound like David at all...in fact I can guarantee that the above are not his words. His words have definitely been taken out of context. Since I started working closer with David back in November he has been nothing less than a true gentleman. He is extremely passionate about everything he does and truly wants to provide Toronto with a first class venue. He has said to me before...and I quote "You guys will have nothing but the best that money can buy...the best sound, lighting, everything." I promise you that David doesn't think he is money, he doesn't even think much of his name. His vision is to create something wonderful for us in Toronto. It is not about money for him...just look at what he has done for Stereo. Stereo has always been about the music, sound, and lighting, and people congregating to have a good time. David's quest is creating a place for people to let go and live their life. David does not think about competing with any other club as what he is creating is something very personal. If David was thinking solely of money he would just carry on DJing...this is a dream he has fantisized about for the past 30 years...again it is not about money. David has played a number of venues in Toronto and will deliver a product far superior to anything this city has to offer...and I to will back that statement 100%. This city has never had a club owner as committed to creating an atmosphere as close to perfection as possible without even thinking of the bottom line. We have all been working very hard...Nevio, David, Steven, Jennstar, all of us (including family and friends) have been here painting, building, cleaning and still continue to do so in order to get this place ready for this big weekend. Despite what the media has to say, or what any of you have to say about the comments printed in the Metro, we all welcome you with open arms to join the Sonic family in the coming weeks, months, and years to come. - Carey |
Further to Shanny's Post
Shanny raises a REALLY good point!
My boyfriend and I recently went to see Roger Sanchez at Avalon in Los Angeles.
Being from out of town, I bought the tickets on line and paid a commission.
When we arrived, much to our delight, there was a seperate line for "on line" ticket holders, one for "guest list", and one for cash sales.
Our line moved at incredible speed. We walked up to a bar code reader, they scanned the tickets, and we were in!
I few pages back, someone talked about "Third Party - added value", and like Shanny, I consoder this to be great added value.
It looks like, according to Floorwhore, we won't have that benefit at Sonic, at least not this week.
I really do hope they are reading, following along, learning, and in spite of Morales' comments, understanding that there IS competition, and we do have other choices.
Also, there have been a lot of comments about Toronto, and the expectations of club goers here. Guess what guys...thats the competitive market they have choosen to enter. Yelling at or lecturing club goers here is not going to change that. We have all become spoiled, buying ecomomy, and flying first class!
Maybe some of you think the clubs should get together and "fix" cover charges, you know, like the oil companies do with gas prices...then we could get the government to form a "Royal Commission" to investigate!

Im glad industry nightclub was in an era before internet chat rooms.
Because back then people appreciated a good time without having the forum to bitch about every little stupid thing the next day.
David Morales and Sonic...
If you guys think that David Morales is starting this new club because he's going to make tons of cash, you guys have it all wrong... This is going to be a non-licensed dance club, meaning NO ALCOHOL SALES.... Do you guys really think that they going to make a lot of money out of cover charges? Running a club involves so much effort and money that I doubt they will make much profit from $30-$40 covers... Stereo in Montreal is a labor of love, just ask the employees there... Most people complaining probably don't and will never understand the concept of a CLUB AS A HOUSE, AS IN HOUSE MUSIC.... Toronto never developed an underground club culture/scene like NYC, Miami or Montreal... The Club is that place where you go to take refuge from the world, from stress, opression, hatred and difficulties of your everyday reality. You only bring your best to the club and leave all your negativity behind, coming in to share music and love with all the other dancers, you jump, dance, serve, pose, vogue and embrace each other regardless of gender, income, looks, sexual preference and all those other stupidity society imposes on us.... I belive David Morales is trying to bring that to Toronto and I only wish the Sonic family the best.... Myself, I'm just commited to bring my best spirit to the party and share it with everybody else... If you coming to the club just to show your latest Prada, to get laid or any other reason different to SHARE THE LOVE OF MUSIC WITH OTHERS, then you probably will not be in tune with David Morales' (a child from the Paradise Garage) idea when opening his new club....
