Not sure if this is news for you, but if you want a good party, you need gay people, and if you don't like them, someone said it before me, go to another place where you won't be touching shoulder with them...

Aren't there are already enough clubs in Toronto that suit to your "touch of class" requirements? Do we really need to turn Sonic into just another pretentious, sterile club like all the rest?

If you don't like the concept, then maybe Sonic isn't the club for you.

Time for a proper review:

After hearing that people waited 2 hours in line, and left, I decided to stay at Guv a bit longer. Around 6:00 am I started to crave some house...but I could have just gotten house at the Drink or Gallery, but that wouldn't be sufficient enough. I craved that forbidden fruit; the place I had not set foot in yet: sonic. I txted a few people who I thought would still be there to ask how crowded it was. They said it was crowded but not as bad. I took my chances and cabbed it down to Sonic, totally relieved to see that there was no lineup. I successfully got in, but my smile turned into a frown quickly, as I waited more than 30 minutes in the ridiculously unorganized and crappy-serviced coat check line. Seriously, those guys in there were totally oblivious to what they were doing. I had to shove my jacket in there faces and say, "I'm checking IN not OUT!" ah well, rough starts are always reasonable. Since Miluska (mushyflowa) had taken me to my first night, which also happened to be the closing night of Boa, she held my hand and walked me up the stairs to my first night of Sonic.

My eyes were glossy from the wonders I had seen...I nearly drooled lol. The atmosphere was so homely. I loved the moroccan themed decorations, the speakers looked tasty to the ear, and the giant disco ball was so luminous yet dirty <3. Can't forget the hardwood flooring! My feet have never felt so weightless. It felt like the flooring from a dance class or something. Although it was still a bit crowded, the dirty beats were really kicking in. Apparently my arrival was perfect timing, since Morales was really starting to play some good shit. I was still tired, and the heat wave didn't help, so I decided to make my rounds to whoever was still there and went outside for a bit. The so called 'patio' needs work, but I'm just stating the obvious. The space has some potential though. And wtf is with people hanging inside the hole?! lol. After a little bit of chatting, I felt my body was recharged again. Danced it up dirty clown styles, as the dancefloor got less crowded. Morales' mixing was not as good as I expected it to be but it was good regardless. I absolutely LOVED the darker and techier stuff that was being played. I felt like I was part of some evil cult performing a nocturnal ritual with the movements of my body lol. Morales changed the tone a bit by playing alot of diva house. It was good for the first hour or so, and I wanted to rest a bit, but my feet lacked obedience. Sick sick tribal was played as well, including Danny Tenaglia's recent tune Dibiza, which Morales decided to play 4 fucking times. Thanks Graham, for sending the tune to me beforehand. After most people left, and resting a bit, We decided to leave around 1 pm. The party was still going on, and I was hopping from pain as my feet were on fire as we left.

Awesome times! I look forward to moving in really soon. It was fun to party with the TAs who made it in, and still managed to party it up during the later hours of the morning. You guys rock!

No joke - and yes, it was infact the dub.

And Nevio CRANKED the fuck out of that system for it.

Twas wicked shit.

Fuckin' wicked vibe at Sonic. We were only there for a few hours but it was worth every penny of that $34. Not often do I say that for an event I've been to for 4 hours..

Congratulations to David Morales, Carey, Nevio and the entire Sonic team for furthur solidifying Toronto's place amongst the world's top EDM destinations.

Chus and Fuckin Ceballos folks!!!!

So after a lot of thinking of how to review this night here goes.

When we showed up at around 1:10am and saw the line I am not going to lie the first thought that went through my head was awesome, this is going to be one hell of a night. I ran into one of the bouncers on his way to get a coffee and asked if the doors were opened yet. His answer of nope, still finishing some clean up came as no surprise to me as I know that there are always last minute things to clear up. As I start walking toward the new entrance of the club my excitement grew, along with some feelings of worry what if my friends dont get in I walked into the club just as the doors opened about 1:20 leaving behind Jeff and Liz who I thought were right behind me, but ended up having to wait a little bit longer then expected. This came as a huge surprise to me when they told me after.

After working coat check in this place I was little skeptical myself to check my coat, but thought that I should give the new coat check a try. Waited a little longer then expected considering I was one of the firsts in the club, but really thought nothing of it cause I can totally relate to the stresses of the coatroom. At about 1:45 I look at my phone and see about 5 text messages from people telling me how awful the line up is. So I start my decent to the old lounge, to see if I could do anything for them, to find a crazy line up in coat check. My first thought, Damn I dont miss that. I then go to check the area where everyone was getting searched and getting the tickets scanned. Oh my word, it was rammed to the walls. I asked one of the bouncers what the chances were that I could get some people around this mess. He looked at me and said good luck. I then see Carey, see the look in his eyes and do the best that I think of Carey, do you want me to help as I point to coat check. Well this put a little smile on his face. I thought that if I can at least get some people through this line up a little faster then maybe it would help with line up in search. After about an hour and half in coat check I realize that it may not be the coat check line holding everyone up. I walked out of coat check frustrated and then got even more frustrated when I found out that half of my friends left the line to go home. Throughout the night I think I jumped in and out of coat check about 5 more times to help out. Just to let everyone know these will not be the regular coat check workers. The girls they hired never showed (doesnt that sound familiar).

My night finally really began at about 5 am. Caught the last hour of Frankies set, which I really liked. David came on around 6 and thats when I knew that the night was only going to get better from there. I have always been a big fan of Davids, as I love my vocal house. I was as surprised as Jeff to here the different sounds he was playing, but enjoyed it either way. He was having so much fun up there and there was many points of the night that he just had the crowd going crazy. The lighting rig that they have set up is awesome. Like Ive said before not a big fan of light shows, but they were easy on the eyes.

Now about this 95% guys BS. Were we at the same club? I can honestly say that there was no way that percentage could be right. I really didnt find it that bad. Cant remember walking through the club getting other peoples sweat all over me either. And I am one to remember that. I will agree that were many men without there shirts on, but everyone is going to have to start dealing with it. And if you dont like it then either find another place to dance in the club, or come on a night that you dont there will be that many of these guys

I was in the middle of the floor for a good portion on the night, as well as right off to the side of the DJ booth dancing up a storm as always. Most of my dancing though was done later on the day when the place started to clear out, cause as some of you know I need all the space I can get when I really feel like moving.

The last track that I was really busting it too was Here I am, one of my mine and Lizs all time favorite tracks. This was at about 1:10pm, after that I just couldnt move anymore. Went looking for the rest of my crew. Said my goodbyes, and left with Liz, Jeff, RJ, and Graham at about 1:30.

All in all my night was awesome. After all the frustrations and stress I decided just to let it go and have as much fun as I could. I am sorry to those of you who were not able to get in, especially considering you were the ones that should have been. I hope you will still give this place a chance.

It was good to be home again. And Carey it was so good to see you having a blast on the dance floor with everyone.

Thank you and Congratulations David, Nevio, Carey and everyone else that is part of the Sonic Team.

Tara

I dont want class, I want a sweaty, dirty, crazy under-ground after-hours vibe. If I wanted Class, I'd goto C-Lounge, listen to shitty music and get bottle service.

Killer party. Knuckles was a little to slow to get into any kind of rhythm to dance to, but from the first beat that Morales dropped, asses were shakin all over the place. It was my first time seeing Morales live, and he far exceeded any expectations I had of him. I was happy to see all my friends in the Carwash Crew make it out. The night wouldnt have been the same without them. Great tunes, great people, great venue. And with Jeff setting up the pre-party at Kabin, there should be no reason why everyone should not love Sonic for a long time.
