ohhh!! i forgot to mention, marco carola, picotto and i think liebing it was, 2004 if not mistaken
that night was absolute insanity, at the end it was picotto and carola playing b2b, picotto would throw an ok track and carola would put on a bomb and the whole place would go nuts. I think this was one of the top 3 nights for me
edit: are we talking about the same set here? that was in guv main room
Ok...
so im not sure how many of you know Nick & Danielle Mujica...
they are pretty much Guv staples.
They have been there since day one, and to my knowledge have rarely missed a saturday (although i think Nick is now doing a work contract in Bermuda)..so im sure hes missed a few.
Regardless, they are Guv sweethearts, known by all staff, management, DJ's etc...
i would be remiss, if i didn't tell you about the day Nick proposed.
Guvernment main room.
Mark Oliver is slicking the crowd, peak time sh*t!
Full Guv throttle...lights, action, cameras...and of course lazer beams refracting of your sketch glasses, and pretty much every other thing in the room as well...
i would say...20% of the people there that night, knew of this plan..including myself///somewhere between monster bombs (courtesy of mark) the time had come...
so we get Danielle up on the stage, where their crew normally resides anyway...and we keep her somewhat pre-occupied...
Other partiers had slowly filtered around the room, with very large signs split between about two people each....
Nick gave the cue, Mark turned down the music (IN THE GUV!!!)
Danielle looked perplexed...
then the signs came up..one at a time in the middle of the dancefloor...
WILL YOU MARRY ME.
Loads of fanfare, a teary-eyed yes, and Oliver drops the climax...
Everyone goes nuts...fairly epic shit if i do say so myself...
GEESH///you guys should have seen the reception to this wedding...
half the room family, half the room partiers that went mental anytime so much of an inkling of a beat was played. I think we even danced to venga boys that night...wedding dj's, what can you do.

One of my favorite moments was at Decadence last year. We had just got back from Miami, and I was stoked to see Burridge again and see what he'd do in that room. Also to see Howells, who I've always loved but up till that point had NEVER seen (or I may have a few years ago but I don't remember).
So after Lee's set I went up to him and thanked him and told him how awesome I thought he was, blahblah...and that Burridge Barrage was my favorite party of WMC. So we chit chatted for a bit and I said, "You know, I fucking love this guy (pointing up at Howells), but can you believe this is only my FIRST time seeing him??"
So Lee was all like, "No shit?" And I was like, "Yeah!" So I asked Lee if he could pass the message along to Danny, tell him how much I loved him and how excited I was or some shit, and that I'd be down in the crowd, right up front representing.
So I go down front and look up and see Lee whispering in Danny's ear, then pointing to me in the crowd. Then Danny looks out at me, waves, and blows me a huge kiss!
I felt like such a stupid super-fan dweeb, but that moment really made my night, second only to the tunes those guys were laying down.
I think I met Nick once about 2 years ago at a jam at Guv. There is a pic of a bunch of us chilling at the Patio in the morning. Stand up Guy if it's the same one I'm thinking of.
Sweet story JennY. That party rocked!

It wasn't a crazy night or anything - but a really really fun night was the Dubfire night with all the black & white feather boas...
They were hanging from the ceiling all night and as the crowd thinned out I decided that I wanted to wear one for the remainder of the party.
First I figured I'd just jump up and grab one - but seeing as they were probably 8 feet in the air I was SOL. My next thought was to lift Margaret up on my shoulders - but considering it was "early morning" the attempt almost ended up with a disaster and for a moment she almost convinced me to let her lift me up on her shoulders...
My fixated state started to turn as I was coming to terms with the fact the boa would elude me.
Brilliance hit when I realized I could out-source my attempts! I looked around for the most athletic looking dude and found some tall and lean b-boy type with his shirt off near the center podium.
I asked him if he could do me a favor and jump up and pull the feather boa down so I could wear it and that I was unable to due to my 5'6" stature. Getting this boa was of major importance to me at the time and I let him know that having this would make or break the remaining 3 hours of the party. The guy was obviously confused as to why I was demanding his assistance - but he was game and jumped up and pulled one down. I got him to grab another for Margaret and the "night of the feather boa" had begun.
After dancing around the main room flapping the boas around and making a scene, we must have roused some major interest in the boas since when we got back to the front stage and looked back it appeared as if half the room was trying to jump up and grab them. Teams of twos and threes were working together to rip them down and no more than 30 minutes later it was boa-fest to Dubfire's 7 AM madness.
(nice bump, thanks!)
G-Man & The Wheelchair
I forget the specific event (it might have even been feather-boa night @ Guv) but here is the tale of G-Man and The Wheelchair...
It's just past 11:00 PM in main room and I'm leaning up against the front speaker stack that is stage left (on the right side of the dance floor when looking at the booth) and notice a guy up on the podium looking a little... dizzy to say the least.
The guy wobbles around atop the podium, slowly becoming more and more unbalanced, slumping, then perking up, stumbling back and forth, closely coming to the edge many times.
I bring this to the attention of those immediately around me and we continue to watch G-Man nearly trip himself and then finally in one massive crescendo of a move - fall, flat on his back off the podium and on to the floor. Easily a 3.5-4 foot drop.
At this point I realize he's in trouble and run to get the bouncers who come and try to rouse him. He's clearly unconscious (probably was before he hit the floor) and the bouncers radio for help.
Shortly thereafter a bouncer rolls up a wheelchair and the bouncers lift the unconscious guy into the seat and position him for a trip to the Guv infirmary.
The wheelchair trip lasts a whole 3 feet before G-Man becomes alert, pops to attention, pushes himself up out of the wheelchair and continues to dance as if nothing had happened.
His fists pumping in the air and feet stepping to the beat the bouncers try to restrain G-Man who politely resists so that he can continue to dance. Finally they get him back into the wheelchair and wheel him off.
And all this before 11:30 PM!
BAHAH
Musically one party definitely stands out in my mind. Labour of love in 2006. I arrived at the guv for open and didn't leave until Benny B.
Brad Copeland
Luke Fair
Hernan Cattaneo
John Digweed
I'd pay big money to see Hernan followed by Digweed. Doesn't get much better than that.

I would really like to hear laid back luke play the main room!

Ive had some great times there and I have had some of the worst nights of my life there. I would love to be able to say it all comes down to the music but this is not true at Guv. There are many factors that can make or break a night. I think what it is for me most it's the Vibe. Sometimes it's awesome and other times it's just SKETCH! All access is the worst, my dislike with all access go to the point were I refused to attend all access events for over a year and just started going to them again last year. IMO then main room is the worst out of all the rooms in the whole complex, its always way too packed and because of this you can't dance because all night no matter were you are on the floor there is people pushing and shoving trying to get somewhere. The Guv is great for the size of the complex and the options it gives it's patrons most nights they have something for everyone. |
Erick Morillo - Boxing Day 99? Hearing Fly Life (Extra) was gold.
First time seeing Oakenfold in Toronto. LTJ played first in Warehouse, then they let everyone stream into Guv. Oakenfold supposedly played at Fluid on a Tuesday soon after because I think people didn't get into Guv, but that could be folklore. Oh, that was the Love party in Feb 99? for Valentine's Day. Probably 3rd would be Sasha & Digweed for Canada Day way back when as well.
