edit. lol you beat me to it peter

I know what you mean....I was actually somewhat impressed with Armin at BeB last year...and that is saying a lot coming from someone who can't stand even the sight of him.

Also, as a side note, I've witnessed it many times where intl DJs take it easy in Toronto and spin like absolute shit - probably because they know the majority of the crowd will drool over whatever is given to them (kinda like our hockey team) - but somehow they go on to play great sets elsewhere the next night.

not necessarily, it is usually dj's that been here once or twice that underestimate us, others that have been coming here for years know that we don't fuck around. Deep Dish, Steve Lawler, AVB, Scumfrog, Marco V and many others love playing here and almost always deliver. Bad Boy Bill doesn't apply though, i've seen him at System in 2004 i think it was and he absolutely destroyed, since then everytime i see him he spins some played out commercial electro garbage...

This goes beyond music and into the general attitude in Toronto as a whole. For the most part, Toronto's filled with people who are afraid to go outside of their comfortable little circle that they've created for themselves, music wise, style wise, etc.

This is why Mtl is viewed by the international community as a more 'progressive' society. While Toronto's always trying to be the next New York

Most overrated Dj for me is Dj AM who used to date Nicole Ritchie.

Armin Van Buren

Ultimately, as your EDM listening hours total into the thousands, you raise the bar regarding what you consider to be 'impressive' (aka NOT 'over-rated').

After all this listening you carve out a sound that you like -- tracks/sets that are outside your comfort zone are automatically heard by you in a different way - you don't even notice it - Different how? Well, you'll be paying much more attention to it, making it even easier to pick out/reference/criticize what it is you don't like.

Enter the International DJ - hype and hype all over the place blah blah blah. You hear/attend a few sets and you just can't get enough, until you come across the first completely SHIT one and realize that there are limits to what they can do -- especially when it comes to pumping out an impressive tracklist/mix gig after gig -- this is their job, they can't innovate every damn night - all that matters is that the crowd in attendance enjoyed their outing.

That said, some of you need to relax on your dj/genre worship/hate and open your minds a little.

Well said Del..

I don't know how much more open minded I can get.. I enjoyed PVD...

Having said that.. not every experience can be epic.. and that is something I have come to learn.

The first disappointment from your favorite hurts a little.. but the quick pace of the EDM scene means there is always some there to make things all better.

While they deliver here they blow your brains out else where.. mind f**king explosions.

not just listening to mixes but actually going to shows , i would say armin and markus shultz (sp?) are over-rated.

Like what ? Scratching ? Playing a track for 30 seconds and mixing out into another one that lasts 15 ? Using multiple samples and loops in a mix that's already littered with garbage...

Yeah, he's definately unique...

I don't think he's the worlds worst DJ, but he's massively overrated, especially in the states where he's popular with clubbers that suffer from ADD.
