My mistake, thanks for sharing your always inspiring words of wisdom though...

I an not a fan of minimal @ all!! However, it is a good style of music to spin when you first open up your set. I guess it's good "warm up" music...It kinda sets the mood before u drop your fire tracks! In my opinion, it is not a genre of music to spin @ peak hour or anything like that, its more easy listening.

Minimal = easy listening music?

I have both Balance 005 and At The Control and I think Balance 005 is multiple times better.
At The Controls is simply... Weird. Not interesting at all, in my opinion.

Haha, where are you getting that from?

Then Holden doesnt suit your taste ! Simple as that. I believe At the controls is by far superior to Balance 005. And he thinks that himself...so...yeah

Holden is not minimal. He does play some minimal tracks but not a lot.

lol, you've obviously never been to a true minimal party

I love balance 005 with a passion so its hard for me to say that I like the current Holden better, witch is true but at the same time I kind of miss his older stuff either way. Holden is a living legend IMO.

Oh well, to each their own.

Saw Holden a few months back. Nice blend of minimal, techno, neo-trance, electro and house records. One of the best dj's at this moment if you ask me.

Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is stripped down to its most fundamental features. As a specific movement in the arts it is identified with developments in post-World War II Western Art, most strongly with American visual arts in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Prominent artists associated with this movement include Donald Judd, Carl Andre and Richard Serra. It is rooted in the reductive aspects of Modernism, and is often interpreted as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism and a bridge to Postmodern art practices.

neo-trance has been and gone and died a death
fun whilst it lasted, there just aren't any fresh ideas though

Posted by julien2 on Oct-15-2007 01:01:

I belive neo-trance was and still is very promising. The problem is that it didn't get the big breakthrough many were expecting. Beyond Connaisseur, Border Community, Kompakt and the likes, not many labels really gave it a chance.

So, basically, there are still new ideas but the genre lacks direction and unity. I would not say it is already dead, but it sure is not well.

Posted by wolftickets on Oct-15-2007 05:19:

Minimal trance has actually been around a long time, albeit underground. So it's not exactly "neo". Then is the newer stuff "neominimal"?

I think genres that are in a primordial state (lacking direction and unity) may be more fun to discover and explore than well codified bodies of music.

What I meant was that It's not my genre of choice. I know of various DJ's that this is what they warm up to, and this is their peak hour music as well. I play it because some crowds like it, but do I enjoy it as much as other genres? Absolutley not.

we're in the same boat.it kinda gets a little boring.

The funny thing with minimal is that I never meet anyone who loves it, nor anyone who especially hates it. Reactions range from mild enthusiasm to mild dislike. Minimal enthusiasm and minimal dislike, if you will.

Haha, pun intended.

Around here it's exactly the opposite.
People mostly either love it or hate it, there's no in between.

So, er, yeah. Pretty much.

Honestly, though, I sometimes feel as though I'm the person who most dislikes minimal, even though my reaction, at worst, amounts to "meh". Likewise, I don't encounter enthusiastic supporters. People who play the stuff don't seem to have their heart in it.

Well if you ask me it's the hype and its only 'minimal' not minimal. And if you take the few guys that play real minimal techno like Villalobos and Hawtin they seem like they have fun up there..
