A legitimate vote in the DJ Mag Top 100 is your way of saying, "This poll is relevant to my interests."

Whereas, a legitimate vote in the Tranceaddict Top 250 DJs poll is your way of saying, "I'm sick of these in-thread reminders."

Both DJ Mag and the DJs stand to lose significant integrity from this. DJ Mag lose face that their poll (especially 2007's edition) was riddled with cheating. While Lawrence and Dan are bound to feel some backlash, if not to their fanbase, then at least to their 'bookability' in the dance community (Unless a disgraced DJ is actually good reverse publicity on promoter's flyers).

Both whipping out the old "it wasnt me, it was my marketing manager" card. Heaven's above, because that guy operates completely individually from the artist in question right?

While the majority of sensible members of this website will retort that DJ Mag holds no standing and is a complete farce; unfortunately within the industry and the public domain (you know, those things that posting "It's a piece of shit dont vote" 100 times on TA, won't change ) this poll remains the standard.

I still believe the djs knew something prior to the investigation beginning. I can't honestly believe they were wholly innocent and neither of them knew that their manager was doing this (if this is what we are to believe).

I can't believe everyone is taking this so seriously. Throwing around important words like "scandal" and "investigation" and "discredit"

Well come on now Theodore - I don't think any intelligible person would say that CL and DJ Dan were "innocent," or rather, lacked knowledge of it.

It is, however, my opinion that they really didn't do anything "wrong" (conceding of course that morality is subjective).

yep. this thread was worth reading.

The poll is a reference point for ppl just getting into the scene, hense how it helps market these djs to the masses, ppl who hold these numbers in such high regard. For those who do develop taste outside the box, the poll simply becomes comedy fodder.

Looking at it again today, I think it's too early to write off these two djs, as they could either get buried under the negative press or thrive from it.. depends on how they use the publiciity. I saw DJ Dan a few months ago.. and the resident (Franco Fabi) at Circus here in Montreal was sooo much more palatable to the dancefloor vibe that night. Let's hope DD and CL come back swinging with some serious sets for their own (and their fans')sake.

I think it's unfair to say all DJs know something is going on. Marketing Managers often get their pay based off of a percentage. By boosting the DJ's status, that DJ gets more gigs/higher pay so he gets paid more himself. Plus that probably makes the DJ happy with the marketing manager and they will stay signed with him. While what the marketing manager did might have been helping the DJ get paid more in the end, for all we know the marketing manager was only looking out for himself and doing what he could to try to get paid more. People just want to find a reason to hate on DJs.

With that, CL and DJ are taking their marketing manager to court over this. Unless they plan on flat out lying to the court (and you don't want to be caught committing purgery here in the US. You could get 2-5 years easily even in just minor cases.), I think if they go through with all this through court, I'll have to believe them.

With them skyrocketing last year, must we not forget that in 2004 CL was #7, I believe, then droped some in 2005 and then went back up last year. I dunno if he had the same marketing manager all those years, but looking at last year does nothing for me to think his votes were fake in any way. Maybe there were, I dunno. Just saying you can't just look at last year and say his votes were fake. Did he have the same marketing manager last year?

Now Dan is a whole different story. Last year was blasphamy from the beginning. Maybe Dan was wondering himself how that happened, maybe he wasn't. But again, if someone wanted to cheat the system it could have been done by ANYONE.....I think how things came to boil and it was easy for them to figure out this year is that the common factor was found between the two...the marketing manager.

i feel bad for lawerence and dan since they probally didnt know that this was going on and now they are disqualified. christopher lawerence is an awesome dj, it sucks hes been removed.

They should've known something was going on when they finished #4 and #5 last year.

Does he not have a label manager, booking agent??? I mean these people even if they are on 2 different sides of the ocean... work very closely together.

How do you guys pay someone for a job when you aren't 100% sure of what they are doing.

DJ's don't get paid THAT much to not give a shit.
