I still try and be nice here and there.. Not smoke near non-smokers, Give the occasional foreigner (Correct) directions etc.. But theres only so far i will go anymore. Easpecially if iv been on my feet all day at work or at a club. Fuck em. |

Humans are creatures of habit.
Before you take that at face-value, assess the scope of what I am actually talking about : we tend to be creatures who find comfort in habit, so that is our motivation, for the most part. Whether it's bad habits or good habits, if we can establish a sort of routine or follow a sort of established order, we always have a society supportive of this path of least resistance; some societies more than others, of course, but in general, society rewards those who take the 'easy route'. Could you call this laziness? I guess. But it's a bit more complex for most people than merely wanting to rest their legs, it's a program: have chair/seat, will sit. That is the purpose of such an item. You can come up with whatever variations upon justification that you want - I believe the fuck other people, nice guys finish last bullshit addage was already mentioned here - but what it really comes down to is habit and purpose. Is this simple function quite inconsiderate? Quite often. But if you question the front of what is considered 'considerate' in society, can you not in fact extract a sort of incentivized justification for most every approved mannerism people observe or expect? Are we not all motivated to give our seats to old people, if we do in fact practice such a thing? Maybe that cute girl at the other window will notice that we are very "considerate" to the elderly and the probability of our having an easily maleable personality as well as a non-threatening nature is higher and so improves the ritual breeding process? Maybe...
If you want an example of habitual nature in society, look no farther than this very thread. It's the c0r...that's just what we do in the c0r...that's how it is here - nothing is ever serious because it's, uh, the c0r. Is there actually reason for this? People harbor the mentality that this is a place where you can be a dickhead to everyone in secret, because nobody can actually exact any serious consequences upon you. Is the flushing anonymity of a crowded subway truly much different? Is boredom truly a legitimate excuse to be a fucking idiot? No more than mere habit is a legitimate excuse to be inconsiderate to others.

| Originally posted by chimera66 that people are sooooooo damn lazy. Every morning I see people race to get a seat on the train (pushing old people out of the way) to sit down for a grand total of 15min. They get off the train and take the escalator up so that they can rush to their desks and sit on their asses for ~8hours then they do the whole thing all over again at the end of the day. People's laziness continues to amaze me and what makes it worse is seeing old people with canes and walkers looking for seats on the train while young able bodied people are lounging. |
wow this thread is still going?
Is...is that a serious question?
