There is nothing wrong with having a big EDM DJ spin on a commercial radio station. It does allow a wider audience to experience what that DJ and what EDM in general is all about, since commercial radio stations (here in Toronto) almost never play EDM.
What's wrong though is when you have a DJ spinning at a station like Z103 where they regularly get track names wrong, call several year-old tracks "hot off the press from Europe" and in general act like they're up-to-date on the latest electronic music, where in reality they are usually years behind.
I just listened to that recording of the street mix, what a joke.
"120, that's like ... one every 3 days ... all over the place"
talk about stating the obvious
.
Scott Fox sounds like he has NO idea what's going on. PVD was mentioning the guest appearances on the album and from the tone of Scott's voice it sounded as if he had never heard of them in his life.
Here is my best effort at a tracklist so far
:
1. Paul Van Dyk feat. Rea Garvey - Let Go (Live Mix)
2. ID (sounds familiar but can't remember the name)
3. ID (also is familiar, but can't remember it)
4. Everything But The Girl - Missing (Paul Oakenfold Exclusive 2008 remix) ... I think
5. Paul Van Dyk feat. Jessica Suitta - White Lies (ID Mix)
6. Britney Spears - Gimme More (Paul Van Dyk Remix)
7. Alex Morph feat. Katie Marne - Spirit (Original Dub Mix)
8. ID
9. Paul Van Dyk feat. Alex Morph - In Circles
i loved when the announcer (was it Scott fox?) said that "OMG WOW PVD has a special EXCLUSIVE remix of a new Britney spears track!!!oneone1!!!"
and PVD was like "uhm, NO its not exclusive, you can buy it online now..."
then Scott was like "OH, is it for sale online now?" <-- trying to pawn off implying he said it was 'exclusive to PVD' only bc he didnt think it was on sale YET... ya right!
meanwhile the whole time he was totally just trying to hype, big up and make sound cool PVD and that the fact that he's playing this electronic Britney spears remix (which would of course sound really awesome to the majority of the Z listeners)
that part made me roll myself to myself, bc it just seem so blatant.
