Wakkk

I dont know why ppl are saying this set had no flow, this set was insane and it had more flow then you think. They played the crowd perfectly and really took the mind fak traks to another level. I would have never thought Dubfire's Spastik would mix in that set but when Sasha dropped it then mixed Steve Lawlers Violet in woooowww u can truly see the experience of these dj's. Tribe props to the sound system it truly was amaizing.

I agree with what most people already mentioned, this was definitely one of the best parties i've been to in mtl (Up there with sundance and cream).

My frends and I were a little apprehensive of the setup at first (dancefloor seemed small) but was very impressed in the end overall. Loved the escalators like everyone else surely did. Lights were insane, almost too intense at times. Sound was very good but a touch too loud. Good crowd in general.

S&D delivered! I liked Sasha a bit more than Diggers, but enjoyed both sets tremendously. I disagree with the lack of flow/direction comment. They are 2 different djs with different styles afterall. If they played exactly the same...what would be the point? I am happy that i can say that I saw them play together and at a high point after the great year they both had.

As for Sander K... I thought he a little disappointing. Started off solid but then became too repetitive and, quite frankly, too 'noisy'. It seems that he has lost his magic touch from a few years back.

I was surprisingly impressed with Spooky. I would like to know the track or two they played before SnD came on.

Overall, it was a great time with great music and great people. Can't ask for anymore than that.

PS. thank god we parked underground....avoided lineup and coatcheck.

PPS. Uneek: first ID is Kaliber - 15.1, and I think Digweed played Kaliber 15.2 after that as well. Popof - My Toyz was also played. Dont think gridlock, silverlake, or coma were played either.

PPPS. Highlight of the night: While taking a piss I saw Digweed waiting for a stall with a security man in the bathrooms near the elevator lol ! Talk about VIP treatment hehe.

Great video. Bit long though.

here's my review

Long wait outside and at coatcheck that was quickly forgotten.
Not easy with such a venue to deal with logistics, it is a mall after all!!! lol

Finally get to the dance floor, the set-up blew me away. Very impressive. A lot of money and effort put into the lighting&sound, some new technology as well for sure. I started the night 10 feet away from the Dj booth but I had to move back as it was getting too crowded and the sound was really high.

Musically I was more than satisfied. Exactly what I was hoping for, actually even better that I was expecting. Last time I had such a feeling was at Sona or at a 514 event many years ago.

Not only Sasha & Digweed delivered a set of an extremely good quality (one of the best I've ever heard), but the vibe, the class and quality of the crowd, people dancing as opposed to rubbing each other, the crowd seemed older than most of the mass events I had been to.

I had not heard a proggy set since Lawler at Sundance. S&D played proggy, dark, techno, and hard on several occasions which is great!
The slow proggression of the beat, getting heavier and heavier, driving you insane, that's exactly what I needed, some of my househead friends told me they felt inconfortable on a few occasions, lol, I personally loved it.

To me the King is Digweed..he's always been. I like his minimal tech style, influences from Dubfire, Holden, some insane tracks like Popof - My toys. Sasha was unreal as well. He really kicked ass from the beginning, he played hard, trancy, proggy, techno, it was perfect! The two of them together give an explosive result! I said on several occasions ''techno is back, techno is back!!'' during the night. There's no doubt in my mind that we're gonna hear more and more tech releases this year! that's awesome!

After a crazy final on Supermayer - Two of us, Sander K kept the banging beats on coming, some great tech house tracks. Unfortunately, he started playing more commercial after 1.5h or so and everybody lost their hard ons...

Overall definitely the best event of the year for me and one of my top event in 10 years of partying. Extremely glad to have been associated as a promoter for such a great quality event, I would do it again tomorrow morning.

heheh.. I could get over it if Lawler hadn't wrecked the good vibe at Res for 2.5 hours, and during the peak too

Fingers are crossed that they are at WMC together like they were past two years, but I have the feeling they do it up differently for Montreal..

Out of all the parties I have been to this has got to top it off. I have only been going to raves since this Summer of 2007, but god damn this really hit the spot.

Lights 9.5/10 (I really enjoyed the laser, and the lighting around the dancefloor)
Vibe 9.5/10
Dancefloor setup 8/10 (Was a little too crowded but what do you expect it is S&D) I also really liked the elevator and the escalator,
Music:

Anton - 8/10
Didn't get a chance to hear Anton from the start but it was a great set Anton delivered.
Spooky 9/10
I have never heard a set from Spooky before and I was pleasantly surprised, he warmed up the party really nice getting everybody in the mood for the headliner)
Sasha - 9.5/10
His melodic/proggy style kept me moving for the whole set almost...
Digweed - 10/10
Man this guy just gave me the chills during a few of his songs. I really liked his minimal style and I really never seemed to listen to him before this party, now this guy is on my top 10 list for sure)))
Sander K - 7.5/10 (Was really tired for him and did not stay till the end)

The 3 minor things I did not like was the lack of alchohol, the 2 hour lineup and that the washroom was pretty crowded. The predrinking wore out ofcourse but oh well, the music and the vibe really did make up for everything. Nice to meet Selma, Ali, Louis and whoever else I did not mention.

Good Job Tribe for organizing such an amazing party and thanks Loius for the last minute ticket hook ups.

Happy New Year everybody!!!

I wouldn't go as far as calling it party of the year, or century or whatever, but I definitely had a good time. Some random thoughts...

- Was really pissed when I found out there's no booze being sold. After waiting ~40 minutes in line and then for coat check, the only thing I wanted was a shot of vodka and a nice cold beer. The only positive that came out of this was the large sum of money in my wallet.

- The sound was brain-rattling. I loved it. At first I was scared to stand in the middle of the dance floor cause I actually felt the inside of my ears vibrating, but after getting used to it I can't imagine anything else. So loud and clear. MTL'ers were definitely right in saying that sound quality is taken a lot more seriously there.

- Music was really good, even though I thought it lacked the epicness of a typical Sasha and Digweed set. A lot harder than what I was expecting in the first hour alone, but even the pounding stuff from S&D is better than from any other DJ.

- I liked how enthusiastic the crowd was when S&D were playing. Don't see that kind of energy too often in Toronto.

- Women...omfg...

As for the city of Montreal itself, I like. Although it was only a weekend, and most of it was spent recovering from Friday night, I rather enjoyed the city. I'd wanna go back when it's warm.

i've just got to come out of the woodwork and add yet another huge thumbs up for this event.
i've partied for many years, in many cities, and this event was definitely right up at the top.
the setup, from lights and sound to simply layout and novelty factor, were all truly world class.

and what can i say about s&d's set that hasn't been said. loved the oldschool, mindwarping, booming techno vibes. there were a couple peaks where the entire venue was just going off - even the coat check and water vendors were feelin it!

montreal knows how to do it right. massive respect to all involved in this one.
