A little more for Dojo to chew on:

1. Fact (not my opinion). Every major city in America has at least one house club, but the vast majority do NOT have trance clubs. Why is this? If trance was as popular as house--or moreso, as dojo would have us believe-- wouldn't its popularity in clubs correspond?

2. Clubs play what the people want, PERIOD. The bulk of the music being played in clubs is a direct reflection of what the people generally like -- and it obviously ain't trance.

In fact, it wasn't long ago when I asked an orange county (california) dj why he wouldn't play any trance, and he said "I gotta play what the people like or we go out of business...they just don't like it because they don't really understand it! I tried it once and they just all left the dancefloor".

I think Dojo's living in his own make-believe America.

I'm from Orange County and I can tell you right now the clubbers out here know fuck all about dance music. You could play whatever the hell you wanted and people will like it. Take a look at Giant's booking down in Orange County (and LA) lately and tell me they're not trance.

This thread should be renamed "the secret to being troll".

Actually, I'd be interested in seeing some numbers on house vs trance in the charts. Seeing as the people parading through the charts these days are people like Eric Prydz and Junior Jack, I think it'll be found that trance was overtaken by house as the mainstream EDM winner a good ways back (excluding hip hop of course).

Well, it's refreshing to know that someone is reading the debate before coming to conclusions.

Did it ever occur to you that (real) trance is my favorite style of EDM?

And since you live there, you should know that hiphop and whatever is on the top of the charts dominates the club scene. House is at least second choice, and trance is a good third.

All this, considering that LA/Orange County is probably one of your best bets in America to hear any trance at all, aside from New York and Miami.

...And anyone even wanting to be remotely honest with themselves will admit that.

I thought I looked it said on their t.nu profile and it said female. Hmm... I guess I'm wrong?

Not anymore it ain't.

Funny thing is that trance is such a broad word to use these days, that the second it's mentioned, people tend to automatically stereotype it into it's uplifting / melodic (the most predictable) form.

But these days, there's so much hybrid music out there that borrows from multiple sub-genres, that tracks have become far more complex and unpredictable as opposed to sometime back.
These very same tracks can be passed off as trance, thats arguable of course.

Why do DJs like Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk and Tiesto have to have their shows moved to venues outside of regular clubs? It couldn't be capacity issues, could it? No! They aren't more popular than house DJs!

Okay, you're right. The world is flat.

So you've been out to clubs in all those states, right? I know they have a big club scene in Montana. And watch out for Boise!

Anyone mentioned that trance is shit anyways

I see how it is. When all else fails, resort to some red herring!

Needless to say, I must have either been referring to the music video, making a joke, or exaggerating from a moment's glee. In fact, I'm sure you could revel at a lot of what I said when I had that account - as a great deal of it was said in jest.

i forgot what this thread was about...

Epic Trance is the gateway genre into the world of rave for most people, so if you have any form of music to blame for raves hitting the mainstream, this is it. Right here. And that, my friends, really, truly, terribly sucks. There must be a word to describe the pain one feels when witnessing (or hearing, rather) something once pure and brilliant completely sold down the water.
Sometime in the mid-90s trance decided to drop the technique of slowly introducing complicated layers and building adequate tension over long stretches, replacing them with cutesy little insta-melodies (Robert Miles may actually be to blame for this). That made it more pop culture accessible. The average attention span, way too ritalin-freaked to pay attention to the slow, brooding trance in its original form, liked the anthemic singalong tone of the NEW McTrance, and that's why all you trance crackers are reading this right now. Not because you grew a taste for this super awesome underground music or you discovered it all by yourself once upon a time. But because trance reformed its sound and delivery to suit YOUR sweet-toothed, top40 pop music consuming tastes. Because the truth is Epic trance is not actually trance, per se. It is powdered, sugar-coated pop schmaltz draped over trance for easy digestion by giggling highschool girls and poser trendy types who would never think to even blink at trance in its raw incarnate. This is the musical equivalent of drowning a meal in ketchup so you can't taste the original flavour anymore.

TRUTH!!!!!

what's interesting, is that i started out listening in the late 90's (w/ the old sound of trance). but now, i don't much care for that sound anymore.

hmm...i think what happened, is that over the years, i've adapted w/ the sound's change 'cause i had to unless i wanted to stop listening all together; rather, i've had to listen to what's been avaliable to me, 'cause i sure as hell wasn't/am not gunna listen to 1999 trance non-stop & not listen to the new stuff. =S ehh...i see it as a survival mechanism, really.

...lol. i guess you could compare it to your best friend growing up & changing their personality or whatever. either you can accept it & learn to deal w/ it & maybe even like it. or you can stop being friends w/ them. hmm...now, it all depends on if their personality changes for the better or for the worse. (regardless, you still have those 2 choices.)

While I'm still waiting for those facts (not generalizations like "There's at least one House club in every city"), I'm going to post some random YouTube videos:

You can keep being a troll if you want, chadi, but if you want me to read your posts, then post a source that disproves that:

Trance music sells more records than House music

Posted by hkaliher on Jan-17-2008 19:11:

jesus that last kid needs to get a life, go out and play or something
or maybe troll around a forum...something usefull

But wouldn't it be impossible for me to disprove a fact that you've already supported with hard numbers?
