Props to you and everyone who turned you on to all this music. Every track is a gem and amazing piece of music and you put it all together extremely well. Dare I say perfect? Nothing is really perfect but a set just doesn't get much better. Quite an awesome journey. Great blending of differences. Never got boring. I listened to your nefardelfreak mix and while it was also good the music wasn't my preference. But this mix. Wow...good show! Oh and Aqueous Transmission was a great ending. I think I only heard that a couple times back in the day so it stirred up interesting emotions. The whole mix is emotional. Again...good job.

Bah! You humble me! To be honest, if I could go back and mix it again - I might. There are a few things that sound a bit like nails on a chalkboard to me at this point - but meh, I do think this was the best I could pull off at the time, and I'm generally pretty happy with it, so to see the response it's gotten has warmed my heart.

Thanks for all the kinds words, everyone - and to those of you just getting in now, I hope you dig it.

Looks like someone suffers from a little case of OCD

I spent no less than 6 hours a day (sometimes more) for about 5 days (with maybe a day break in there - unemployment is nice like that) working on this mix from beginning to end, it was absurd, and I'm still always thinking of how it could have been better for next time.

I am an absolute basket case when it comes to this shit. It's ridiculous and probably fairly sad to anyone watching me go through it, hence the massive thanks to Myra in the first post

Perfectionism is quality I admire. I annoy the fuck out of people with shit like that too.

Kudos to you, if only everyone put this much effort into their music

Srsly.

I've listened to this mix no less than 10 times, and it hasn't tired a single bit, it is definately my favourite mix of yours to date. The flow is perfect, the tracks are brilliant and the transitions are faultless.

Only problem with this mix is how the hell do you follow it up?

With a long, long, long wait for the next one.

Long enough for people to forget about this...

In all seriousness - thank you guys, but it's definitely more praise than I'm due. I like doing this stuff - if I didn't, I wouldn't do it.

I don't think I'm the best at it, sometimes I think I fail pretty hard, but I absolutely love doing it - far more than I event enjoy playing a fair number of the gigs I have. I don't know - I guess it's just that the two (playing a one off, live set out or on the radio, and working hard to construct a well formed promotional mix) are such different experiences for me, each with their own reward.

Regardless, I guess the best way I can put all of this is that I don't think GU or EQ Grey are ever going to come along and say "Would you do a mixed compilation for us?", so making these is about as close as I can get to putting something like Balance 008 (I love that Desyn just got fucked up and rocked the decks for a few days) or GU 009 together.

Make no mistake, I'm not placing myself in league with Desyn or Sasha - I just like to imagine that if I were asked to do a project like those, I try to apply the mindset I think I'd use doing that, to a promo.

Though maybe all this rambling is a bit too obvious. Feel free to mock it.

Thanks for sharing this Rob. I have had one listen while at work yesterday. Although not my usual taste in EDM, I quite enjoyed this mix, its really solid imo.
This is the first mix of your's that I have heard so I can't really compare it with any of your past mixes. I am also trying to listen to as many new influences and styles in EDM as I can find the time for.
I found myself getting distracted by the grooves and percussion while working which means I'm enjoying the sounds, but coz there's a lot of loud noise around in my workplaces, I don't really get to hear the full sound properly. I'd like to and will listen to it again when I can just kick back and not have other noise going on around me to drown out some of the subtler sounds.
Cheers mate

I am really, really pleased not only with the response this has gotten here in general, but also with the fact that it seems more than a handful of people gave this a shot even though it doesn't fall within the bounds of what they normally listen to.

Glad I could share a bit of music with folks who otherwise might not have heard it - that's really the whole reason I do this kind of stuff in the first place: because I love sharing the music I'm passionate about with other people.

Many of the responses in here are more gratifying than any bigger opening gigs I've played - cheers to you all.

I dunno why but this set is good

Posted by Lebezniatnikov on Oct-30-2008 17:35:

Ok, so this is really embarrassing, but I finally listened to this set yesterday.

I know. What's the deal.

Anyway, you know that I generally love what you put out, so it should be no surprise that this was no exception. It was different, but all of the changes I liked. As far as my tastes are concerned, you've come some way from the more proggy stuff you used to play, toward a bit more funk and depth - all changes I love.

Programming-wise, other people are better able to comment, but I didn't notice any problems, so yay.

Track-wise, I wasn't familiar with any going in, so it was all new to me, which I liked a lot. I don't listen to much EDM these days, and when I do it's pretty much solely Danny Howells anymore, so I was surprised to see how well this fit in with the usual for me (I'm cringing at even making this comparison, but yes, I just called you almost as good as Danny Howells).

I was grooving along to this up to the point that the MLK sample came in... and then I was absolutely hooked. That was genius, whether it was in the track or added I don't know - but given what we're less than a week away from (crossing my fingers), I thought it was totally appropriate and even somewhat moving (god I'm emo).

Also, I liked that you ended on a downtempo note - too many sets are all crescendo - I liked the rising tone complemented by a solid outro.
