I almost went up to see him there.

Why was it bad? I heard it was pretty damn good.

Posted by smekzg on Aug-30-2008 06:04:

well.. he didnt play any of his big ones

no adaigo, no traffic no flight

only some random remix of lethal industry, and the music in general was pretty cheesy.

it was ok, but ive seen some way better sets by him

go to veoh.com and search tiesto mix 1-6.
of course, tzhey have banned all countries of the world except for USA and UK(COMMUNISTS!) so you need to use proxy.

Posted by Fledz on Aug-30-2008 06:13:

I'm in Australia so I shouldn't be banned

Will grab the set now

Yes, only for non goa/psy its 1995 (classic trance ftw).

I can't speak about Oakie as I've only seen him twice quite a few years back but its safe to say that of all the DJs out there, probably across all genres, if there was one DJ that you always know what to expect, its Armin.

This is not a criticism or compliment, merely fact.

I think you will find that alot of people that were into it from 97 -2003 were relatively clued up and are now well aware and just as disheartend with the state of things. They say things come back around but I can NEVER imagine trance peaking again.. not since everybody making it seems to be mainly interested in the money it could make with commercial appeal and branding. There are brilliant progressive house producers out there and people in general still making awesome tracks- I have great hopes for these people but with regards to the state of trance within the last 5 years there definitely isnt any hope. As for any new comers to the 'scene' who want to have an idea about trance its pretty sickening unless you are lucky enough to know someone who has a clue. The way that trance as a genre is portrayed within the charts is the most putrid thing ive ever heard.

oh c'mon... do you think trance producers in 1999-2003 made great trance tracks for the sake of pure art? we all need to eat, you know. maybe electronic music has run out of fresh ideas... trance was cool in the beginning because it was a new genre of music with lots of free space for creativity and lots of great sounds to be discovered.. maybe its just the end of the life cycle of a particular genre

Ahahahaha, but not for the right reasons at all.

Trust me, trance producers (and producers in general) from the 'golden age' were making WAY WAY more money than the guys are today. One veteran producer (i'll keep it confidential) I know has told me his sales are about 1/5 what they used to be.. and he's making chart toppers now, just like he was then.

I would argue that there are MORE people in it now for the love of what they do.. technology bringing producing to the masses.

Trance will peak again, just like variations of every other genre will come back around.. it all happens in cycles.

There's nothing wrong with making some income for your hard work and creativity. I actually wish the best wealth for those producing so they can continue to upgrade and grow with the new software/instruments/technology.

However, I think there's little respect to be given to those who create tracks just to cash in, giving those who do take the music as art a bad name. It's true that no one is to say if Tiesto or any artist is producing for the sake of some bucks or passion, but you can't blame people for assuming things by looking at the artists income influenced actions or half ass uninspired productions.

ive lost count of the amount of M.I.K.E productions that have been ripped off by the likes of scooter and topped the charts.

It's definitely the umlaut.

Posted by Ifiwereyou on Sep-02-2008 03:34:

i prefer Armin Van Buuren.

The advantage of adding effectively an extra letter to a 5 character name is just too much popularity to bear. WHAT OTHER DJ CAN HAVE SO MUCH POWER IN ONLY 5 LETTERS!!!

My answer is the man behind the name has created, or had created for him, a brand, Tiesto that has had mass market appeal to mostly European dance scenes. His mixing is nothing special, but yet, the guy is a super star. It's all about how a DJ brands himself, promotes himself, how well the record label manages the brand. Tiesto is the Wal-Mart of DJ's!

absolutely right. Being in the corporate world myself, it's all about creating that brand and nurturing it through the marketing motions.

Tiesto has done it.

i would say the reason why he's so big....is...
just like PVD......

both of their productions & live sets are more emotionally intense than other trance or techno djs. they know what the crowds want.

I agreed that super star djs are just like brand names. but it's the music they produced...the originality of the music they produced , and the uniqueness of the their productions which make this brand this big.

Posted by Funkesthesiac69 on Sep-02-2008 10:22:

Tiesto was my favorite Dj primarily because of track selection and exceptional programming i mean in search of sunrise 1-4 had so many emotive songs and brilliant transitions but then i started to see tiesto succumb to commercialism
i respect his work still but i miss his exceptional DJing circa 1999-2005
AvB is overrated
PvD is less overrated
Andy Moor should be considered more often he is an incredible dj and producer!

i recently saw tiesto perform at creamfields - the guys mixing quality is first rate, his tunes arent even banging but the crowd just love him cos hes "tiesto"

its the tiesto brand name - he could play hardstyle and it would be the next big thing - its not his awsome tunes, just his well established name and that is down to superb marketing

dont get me wrong im not taking anything away from the guy, hell id love tiesto status - but whathe does is not quite my personal taste

because number of nOObs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

people who think like Ishkur

and I thought I'd never say it, but that guy (Ishkur) is supreme

He predicted and wrote lots and lots of things, most turned out to be true.
