I just find it irritating that you feel so threatened by someone's comments on your sexual orientation (enough to tell them you hope they get raped or something of that nature).

You acknowledge the idea that our society is in a time of transition- a shift towards potential acceptance of homosexuality. Are you ignorant of the fact that your sexual orientation (and its social implications) currently bothers a lot of people? Whether or not you accept their opinion, you have to accept that change happens slowly. In the meantime, you can assert your sexuality in a manner that doesn't make you look like such a fucking twat.

Channel your holier-than-thou energy to someone who cares.
Even my fag friends would say you've got some pieces missing.

Heterophobe

You're the only one coming off as a twat here.

The question is not so much whether those people exist as it is what to do about them.

I think rape might be going a bit far; after all, they can't help that they were born with the functional equivalent of a few extra 21st chromosomes and raised by slavering cretins. I'd settle for a more measured response, like ending their suffrage.

Agreed. Maybe someone has lots of homophobic friends or relatives she feels obliged to defend?

Posted by Ania_xox on Feb-12-2009 03:51:

My personal opinion on the topic at hand has not been stated at all.
I'm going to keep it that way because it would take me pages to describe it and no one really cares.

My bottom line on this whole thing:
Homophobes don't understand (can't fathom) homosexuality.
Homosexuals don't understand (disagree with) homophobia.

Neither should attack the other. Just let them be.

In other words, you disapprove of gays and have some long and convoluted way of convincing yourself that it's actually rational to do so.

"Hi, I don't mind you being the way you are, but my friends and a big part of society do, and so I'd like to ask you something. Could you please feel ashamed and live in guilt about who you are? It's just that this way I would feel a little less uncomfortable about the idea of disagreeing with my friends, which is a bit awkward. Thanks."

This guy has to be trolling. Their's no way someone could actually have such a stupid opinion.

I just hate when people make a big deal of being gay.
If you're gay then you're gay. I don't see anything to defend.
Live your life, be gay and shut the fuck up about it.

Probably not worth talking to this person. Ever.

How is that an opinion? Think about it and it is true. Homophobes can't fathom homosexuality being okay in society. It is, to them, an abomination to what they have been taught their whole life. While, homosexuals don't understand why people are homophobic.

I wouldn't say that's true.

In a logical sense, not in a societal bullshit sense. They can't fathom, nor understand, the logic behind it. I don't either to be honest, but whatever. There is only so much you can do before the ball is in their court to change.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Feb-12-2009 06:01:

People are homophobic because of one or more of the following:

1. They think it's wrong because God says so.
2. They think it's unmanly or disgraceful for a man to do.
3. They find the thought of it personally disgusting.

That's about it usually.

Right, but from a logical pov, they make no sense.

Posted by ownymcown on Feb-12-2009 06:25:

It makes perfect sense from a logical point of view.

Gay people are advancing a different agenda than their own, and they see this as conflicting.

They find the idea of being gay abhorrent, but as long as they stay in the closet or they aren't asking for any rights, recognition, or media coverage, (basically staying off the radar), they wouldn't have to think about it.

However, with all the gay rights movements and whatnot, homophobes see gay people as trying to advance an alternate set of values that conflict with their own (how? I don't know).

dolphins are gay before they find a mate.. they actually practice on other males (assuming they are males)
